Stella simply reads her newspaper along, her eyes hidden from the view of the others. And while whoever sat next to her could see that she is, in fact, reading the paper, her ears pick up conversations. Nora & Andrael playing cards, some couple behind them talking about the food...

Her eyes briefly went up to the ceiling when the announcement came up. Another hour, that's fine. As long as Nora does not manage to weaponize Murphy's Law and make a murder or a train crash happen, all should be well. And, even if her gang isn't really synergizing well... she does prefer this over buffoons. Her eyes briefly go to every person at the table for a second each, before turning back to her paper. Stock prices. Haven't read those in a while...

Stella leaves her hand folded and simply slides it away, shaking her head. "Sorry, I'm not that into card games." She takes out the newspaper she had open at work and continues to read it, hiding her face. All she does is read a little, moving her mouth a little whenever she encounters a questionable word. Though her ears were still open for any questions or remarks.

"You know, there's no need to treat me like a senior, Nora. I'm only 47." Stella replies, sighing. At this point, it almost feels intentional. "Also if you're going to volunteer games with "subtle* messages, why not go for Risk entirely?" She chuckles, looking around. Where would Nora even get a board game... unless she has one with her at all times.

"Not at all." Stella says, she could not argue there. After all, she keeps looking around and picking up trivia and small details whenever possible. She was more mellow but no hypocrite yet. "I think you learned your lesson." She snaps her fingers and, in a high arc, a candy falls down right in front of Nora.

Her smile returned, even showing her teeth now a little. W... Was that just a little act as a revenge for Nora calling her old? Or did she just decide to be mischievious for once. Who knows?

"Thanks." Stella sighs and puts the candy back. Nora still hadn't earned it. "Look, it's best if you don't invite trouble like that. Let us just enjoy this. I know we're colleagues and all this bonding isn't for everyone but disaster does not follow us like some malicious entity. But, you're an energetic one... don't you have some phone or anything so you can distract yourself that way?"

"Peace is a good thing, not everything has to be an action-thriller. We will get our fair share of action when we arrive at the scene, Nora. For now, let's enjoy the calm of the storm." Stella replies, playing with a sweet of hers by doing that little trick where she lets it pass through her fingers. Though she kept her hand just out of Nora's reach, so she'd need to lean over the table to snatch it.

"Besides, you would not like the treat. It's old people's stuff."

A short comment from Stella. "Huh. Short and sweet. Though a human as a lawyer would be a welcome throwback. All automated... it'd be nice to have a lawyer with a heart."

When Nora complains though, she gets a raised eyebrow from the aged detective. Well, doesn't like old people stuff? Doesn't seem like it when she ate the discontinued (but in no way hazardous) candy of her. She normally does not get worked up by things like that but it is still a rude interlude nonetheless! So, she just makes a little "aha" and reaches into her pocket, taking another piece of candy and handing it to Buraddo. "For your troubles."

When Andrael asks her "question", Stella briefly stops toying with her piece of candy. Mh, the taste... started sweet, then went sour fast, then goes back to sweet halfway. "So... artificial.", she thought, "Well, everyone's got their own taste I guess.".

She does not add anything to the conversation though, simply swallowing the candy after a while and giving Buraddo a bit of a soft smile, trying to ease the tension here a little. Her eyes occasionally dart to the other two but she was all ears for the more taciturn detective, curious about their response. Would they fall for Andrael's bait?

"Listening to the origins of you two makes me long for my books back home." Stella said, chuckling a little. It wasn't meant as an insult, her soft smile was proof of that. "You should not exclude yourselves from the spotlight like that you two."

She moves her head a little, an audible crack from her neck coming out before she gave out a little sigh. "You both came here by choice, right? It wasn't the only job on the blackboard that responded to you, you know? And I doubt Michon has a weird thing where he'd hire a profiler with a troubled past and the brawling detective because he wants to sabotage his own business. I'm sure he sees potential and competence in you." Her smile lifts a little, as she takes a different candy from her wrapper and eats it herself, offering a third piece to Andrael. It had the logo of a raspberry on it.

"But, no, it's not weird that you dropped such a prestigious scholarship for this job. Interests don't always align and the capability of admitting that to oneself is, much like Cassowary's rise from the depths of financial adversity and unfortunate shift of parental controls, a feat of great strength."

Stella sighs, that was quite a mouthful. Seems she just got carried by the moment... she takes out a bottle of water from her purse and drinks from it for a solid five seconds, letting them process her words.

"Hold on, I got something." Stella opens the left pocket of her trenchcoat and, without looking, rummages through it like one would through an old toy box. She stops for a second, examining Nora. "Hm, she doesn't seem to be bleeding and I won't ask her to lift her shirt. These should suffice for now."

Out, she pulls a simple piece of candy, wrapped in old-fashioned wrappers, and hands it to Nora. "Cherry flavor, I hope you can endure it." Stella then turns to Andrael, smiling a little. So there was some compassion beneath the shell of superiority after all. Hm, not quite... it was not compassion because of personal issues. Job related? Maybe to seem somewhat sympathetic to the others? She could not point it out but hey, Andrael was capable of empathy. That's good.

With a genuine smile, Stella puts the candy in Nora's hand (slightly by force) and then closes her pocket again. "Don't do such stunts again, alright? We're detectives, we aren't exactly known to charge into things head first." She crosses her arms a little, thinking and whispering to herself. "How does one go from quarterback to detective though... maybe too much Columbo...?"

"Don't think I can't put in the work because of my age. But I appreciate the reminder, Detective." Stella laughs a little, shaking her head a bit and her eyes dart around the train station again, picking up details. Train departures, snippets of conversations, before going back to Andrael.
Her initial assessment of Andrael was wrong but she was glad that it was. Better to have a slightly cocky but competent person than a nervous wreck with no expertise whatsoever. So, as they wait for the train, why not ask a simple question to warm up the craniums?

"No junior detectives... hmph. Do you think-" Stella's question is interrupted by Nora dashing behind the random person. A part of her wants to shout after her but another part thought differently. "With the energy she's displaying all morning, she could probably tackle him and still make the train..."

"Should we assist?" Stella turns to Andrael and Buraddo.

"Shame." Stella replies, smiling and putting both her hands into her pockets. She simply enjoys the banter, it was better than being dragged around by Nora. And Buraddo was... well, the most passive he's been so far. So, she concludes with one last line.

"They would suit you. And they would look good on you as well." With Andrael being witty, she should pick up what she actually meant. "... alright, enough of this back and forth. I've been a detective and higher for the past thirty-odd years, it's not like you're the first overperformer I've met. But I do believe you'll do wondrous work on the crime scene... I'm looking forward to it, Detective Cassowary." Stella gives her a little smirk, insults were her forte but it was too early for them. And, in her opinion?

Andrael wasn't really deserving them either.

Stella's eyebrow went even higher, the sudden jab from Andrael was surprising. Not really hurtful, just out of nowhere. She could retort... let her in on her backstory and this being her second detective career, not her first. There were numerous things she could say to smite down the cockiness of her "colleague" but, no, no. They don't need to argue and then have the awkward silence over the entire train ride, that would be foolish. And weird... but with Nora's energy all over the place and Andrael acting like a superior being, she just could not resist. A simple jab would not hurt and she wouldn't need to tell about her former career.

"If hats distract from substance, perhaps glasses suit you. They distract from your inadequacy."

Stella wasn't usually the one to insult others but if there is one thing she dislikes, it's false superiority.

Stella raises an eyebrow and shakes her head, sighing. The issue with a detective squad isn't just that their chemistry has to be right but also each other's "insights". She just went with the flow, less because she had no backbone but rather because, with someone as energetic as Nora, fighting against her would just be pointless.

"Personally, I like their get-up." Stella replied, shaking her head a little at the bluntness of her fellow detective. "But let's slow things down, okay? I think you have more life in you right now than us four combined and it's the early morning hours. Some still have to boot up." She finally frees herself of Nora's grip and puts both hands in her pockets. "All in favour of a slower start?"

"Remember though, if you aim too high, you end up short. It's like throwing a ball, the perfect arc makes the furthest distance." Stella laughs a little shy, Nora's excited nature did make it easy for the old Oracle to focus on her. "I never say don't dream for the world, take it and the solar system when you're at it! It's just best to build a reliable foundation first."

Hm. In hindsight, Nora does remind her of one of her android sisters... a dreamer. An optimist. While others aim to become lawyers, she'd aim for judge. Shame they haven't been in touch but... as the only "fleshling" out of five, they had their unity with just four people.

"Tell you what." Stella says, sounding a little more comforting than before. "If we're going to be the greatest Detectives ever, a sense of direction is always important! Do you think you know a lesser known path to the station? You never know when you need someone off your trail!~"

"H-Hey now, I'm all for a hostile takeover but let's start small, you know!" Stella chuckles a little awkwardly, the surge of energy emanating from Nora was a little contagious but she was unsure if her age would allow her to hold it up for very long. "Let's first get the case done properly, you would not want to...", A short pause, "... build your empire on crackling foundation, right?"

"It's best if we move soon, we can chat on our way there." Stella mentioned, crossing her arms and giving them a soft smile. Nora is a little too energetic for her and she doesn't know what STC is but, in all honestly, she prefers a blend of personalities over a congress of boredom.

The detective then looks over at Andrael, noting the unique look she's giving her. Of course Andry wasn't the first one to stare like that, Stella was the oldest person in the company - though in her opinion, she does not look the oldest - but something was different. The gaze she received from her fellow... casemate, I think Nora called it (?), was more mellow. Relaxed. Sure, she could sense the minor feeling of condescension but she can gloss over it.
So Andrael simply receives a more content smile in return, also having the "honor" of being the first person of the day Stella looked at for more than three seconds.

Well, Buraddo seems promising and the nervous wreck shows manners. Best if I ease in on her, no need for a meltdown this early. Stella thought to herself, making her way to her assigned case. Her pupils dart between the other three and the case rapidly, before they stop at the case. "So... we have Cassowary, Mawer, Buraddo and me. An... interesting line-up. You can do this.

At first, it was difficult for Stella to work in a team. Apart from her solitary nature that comes with being an Oracle (at least for her), the detective feared that some people might remember her from her former times at this agency. That would just bring up unnecessary details and stories... but when she noticed that almost nobody who works now even worked back then, she saw it as a sort of "restart". Sure, it would be nice to be promoted to Oracle again some time but... right now? She could use some company at the water cooler. Not to mention the information she could gather from them, you never know what you need.

The detective takes a deep breath, standing behind Nora. Clearing her throat audibly to get the matter back to the case, Stella simply points at the case, "So, who has the honor of introducing us to the case?"

Andrael's inner turmoil hasn't gone unnoticed... while not telepathic in any way or form, in Stella's opinion at least, she felt a certain... vibe coming from her. Though at this point, all she knew are some chaotic currents underneath and a detective never jumps the gun, unless with conclusive evidence or a sudden eureka. And the last thing she needs today is making an "enemy" right now.

Stella first takes a look around the other cases first, though there was nothing particularly interesting about them. It's to be expected that the interns get a break-in, murder scenes are not really something everyone should or would see. Though, with enough training - or a surprising lack of morals - some could see the inventiveness of some of these. The former Oracle distinctly remembers a murder with a knife, tied over a few pulleys to an ice block.

Enough reminiscing about better times, there is a job to be done! Stella simply shakes her own head gently, as if she declines something, before walking away from the board and on her way to Andry. Or at least where she remembers her desk was...

From Stella's desk came the rustling sounds of paper... even in the 2070s, she belongs to the rare group of people that still read newspapers. A part of her is even surprised that they still made them. Sure, they were now synthetic to not harm trees but they were already warning about "the medium of paper dying out" back in the 30s. The detective folds the newspaper neatly on her desk and makes her way to the "Investigative Department". Finding her name was easy, apart from maybe Nora, she was the only detective with a three-part name. "Red folder. At least better than some girl's lost doll." She could not help but chuckle a little at that.
