Wenn er's nicht so mit Englisch hat, sind die Bücher definitiv nicht das richtige, zumindest in englisch. Die sind eben nicht ganz ohne.

Sonst würde mir noch Neil Gaiman einfallen, der schreibt aber nicht so ganz High Fantasy. Es ist eher so Fantasy, "Science Fiction" und Übernatürliches. Wobei meist eher Fantasy und Übernatürliches.
Von ihm könnte ich "Niemandsland", "Der Sternenwanderer" oder auch "Der Ozean am Ende der Straße" empfehlen. Das sind auch alles Einzelbände. Sonst da auch die Kurzgeschichtenbände "Zerbrechliche Dinge: Geschichten und Wunder" oder "Die Messerkönigin". Den zweiten fand ich besser, die Geschichten sind aber teilweise ein bisschen ekliger und blutiger als die in dem anderen.

Terry Pratchett muss man mögen, ich find die Bücher nicht schlecht, les aber selbst lieber Ernsteres.
Aber sollte es auch in Richtung Humor gehen, gäbe es da noch Walter Moers, der auch ganz tolle Sachen geschrieben hat.

Ich könnte da "Die drei Welten" von Ian Irvine empfehlen. Die ersten drei "Reihen" sind abgeschlossen. Ich bin mir nicht sicher wie einfach man die noch auf deutsch kriegt, würde aber sowieso von vornherein empfehlen, die auf englisch zu lesen. Die Reihen werden mit der Zeit leider qualitativ etwas schlechter, ich find sie aber immer noch großartig.
Gerade die erste Reihe ist noch stark an Fanatsy angelehnt, die anderen danach haben dann aber immer mehr Science Fiction Einflüsse.

Das hier wäre das erste Buch der ersten Reihe.

	If the days you never logged on are just not counted as premium what happens if you're hunting and a shiny hatches on one of those days? So will it break the chain? I'm sure this is an extremly important point for most premium users. [Read more]

I don't see that this is in any way necessary. There are enough details to tell both apart.
1. Of the three parts you can enter in the wonder trade the one you are in is shown on the top in a light colour.
2. The animation of the shiny wonder trade shows shinies the other one doesn't.
3. The caption that tells you when the next wonder trade is says 'next wonder trade' for the normal one and 'next SHINY wonder trade' for the shiny one.
4. The overall caption of the page also says 'SHINY wonder trade'. So does the URL.
5. The Ho-Oh pic on the bottom is shiny for the shiny wonder trade and normal for the other.
6. (just usable in the first two days after the shiny wonder trade took place) The time that shows when the next trade is due will say something like 'In x DAYS and y hours' instead of 'In x HOURS and y minutes'.

That are 5 and a half possibilites to tell both apart. I'm pretty sure that's enough.
