Title: Megami

My face morphed from shock to horror as her face twisted into a sad frown. Watching that facial expression felt like knives being raked across my spinal cord. All of my senses were overloaded and my head was a throbbing mass of pain. My body was trapped in a constant argument as I stood frozen. My conscious brain just wanted to collapse, while my survival instincts interpreted the horrible feeling of unease and terror I got as a threat and wanted to run, run, run as fast and as far as possible. My nails dug against my skin looking for some sort of support, some sort of stablitity, some sort of feeling other than the overwhelming sadness. I could barely feel myself breathing as my whole body went on lockdown. This horrible feeling lasted for mere moments yet it felt like it lasted until the heat death of the universe. Finally there was a third voice, a small but firm one, that wanted to comfort her. The firm voice won out, and I extended my arms to wrap her in a tight hug. My eyes began streaming tears as I finally realized just how much I needed this too.

I didn't know what happened. I didn't look, all I heard was screams and shattering. I only looked up after the screen blacked out. My voice stopped quavering as some sort of adrenaline coursed through my veins. "This can't happen again." My tears dried up as I decided what I would do. I will get us out of here. I will. And if I don't, someone will.
