Why not just buy the potions in the shop? :> I do that, when I get broken limb, (major illness in Queztal Palace), I find buying 25%-35% potions and testing out my luck, much more easier than using my ingredients and time. I think it's cheaper that way too, since you save your coin, and can sell your ingredients, also gives you more time to do things.

For the reason it is like that, FV does that on purpose. Each place has a major illness, and several minor ones. Your Ferality is a major illness. The major illnesses are harder to cure than minor ones, and their potions require more things. If you don't have beginner's boon, your villager with a major illness is unable to work.

I save up my doctor's appointment, for major illnesses, but sometimes during the day I get them and I have to buy a cure. I make back the money pretty quickly though.
