If I'm not alone, then why do I feel like something bad will happen should I leave the group?, Dawnpelt thought worrisomely. " I'm fine, Flowerheart. I'm used to the work by this point, " she meowed, trying to reassure the queen of her capabilities. " We'll be leaving soon, I'll go wake the kits," she said, taking her leave. She walked back to where Tigerstripe was working in Ashpelt, and gently nudged her sleeping kits with her nose.

Dawnpelt glanced at Mudfeather, who although having her share of injuries, didn't seem worse for wear than the others. " Yes, that would be very helpful. " she mewed gratefully. " I won't have time to rest, I will be leading a patrol to hunt while the rest of the group stays together. " Dawnpelt sighed wearily. " I fear we won't truly be able to rest until we reach Pineclan."

" Very well," Dawnpelt said, dipping her head respectfully to Flamestar. She padded through the clan, making sure no one was still hurt from the previous day's battle. Dawnpelt approached Flowerheart, who was resting nearby the other warriors. " Would you mind carrying Sunkit or Bramblekit for this leg of the journey?," she asked the queen.

"As good as I can be, I suppose," Dawnpelt said, looking over the clan, seeing several cats stirring into wakefulness. "We should resume our journey as soon as everyone is able. I'd rather not run into a patrol of those rogues...," she spoke low, " If they even do that sort of thing." Dawnpelt looked back to the forest, imagining she could see the Desertclan camp through the trees, over run with ragged, horrible cats. How many times must we leave our home?, she pondered woefully.

Dawnpelt mewed her thanks as Tigerstripe walked to Ashpelt. She flicked her tail as she watched the medicine cat leave, and walked on to check on the rest of the clan. Not many had slept well, as these dens were not neatly lined with the soft moss of their own dens in camp. Dawnpelt noticed her brother sitting on the edge of the rocks, not appearing to have moved or slept. She took a few steps towards him, and he turned away as to not have to look at her. Hurt, Dawnpelt instead headed towards where Flamestar lay, just waking up.

Dawnpelt sighed before speaking. “Good Morning,” She mewed. “Ashpelt didn’t tell me about a wound on his side, and it’s still bothering him this morning. I’d like you to look at it, if you had a moment,” She asked gently. Dawnpelt didn’t want to worry about Ashpelt making it up the mountain, and she knew the wound bothered him already more than he let on. Ashpelt, for once, think of yourself..., she scolded him with her thoughts.

Dawnpelt noticed Ashpelt’s badly healed wound on his side, glancing at her own side to see dried blood on the tips of her fur. “Ashpelt...” She said, “ You need speak up when you’re hurt like this, I can’t stand to see you in pain. “ She mewed, “ I’ll retrieve Tigerstripe to look at that now,” she said, padding out of the den. She looked for Tigerstripe’s familiar pelt and padded towards her.

The morning sunlight fell hard on Dawnpelt's face, not being shaded by their usual forest canopy. She blinked awake, and was confused be her surroundings for a moment. The day's events flooded back to her memory, and she felt cold at the realization. She gently nudged Ashpelt next to her, as to rouse him from sleep, and carefully uncurled herself from her small family.

Dawnpelt nodded, resting her head on her paws. " Tomorrow will be another eventful day, I'm sure..", she said, her voice soft and dream-like, as she let her eye lids droop. "As long as we're together, it will be alright...", she whispered as she drifted off to sleep.

Dawnpelt found herself laughing nervously, “ I don’t even want to think about that tonight. That’s a hurdle for another day. “ she said, wrapping her tail neatly around the kits, pulling them to her belly. “Besides, we don’t know Pineclan’s stance on this. They don’t even know Hawkiwind is...,” the words caught in her throat. “ whatever the outcome, Duskwind isn’t alone,” she said.

Dawnpelt flicked an ear as she looked to her mate. “ What’s on your mind?” She said softly, pausing from grooming her kits. She felt at ease as she could ever be between her kits and her love, but could feel his troubled mood.

Dawnpelt curled around her kits, licking Bramblekit’s head gently. She hadn’t slept with her kits for the night in a moon, and part of her missed the feeling terribly. Tonight, I’ll stay with them, she declared to herself.

Dawnpelt signaled for the rest of the clan to rise, and let the others behind Ashpelt and Flamestar. Bramblekit hung limply in her jaws, having fallen into a deep sleep. She stepped into the rocky dip in th cliff, and found a suitable small den in the rocks, where Ashpelt had already brought Sunkit. She gently placed Bramblekit next to his sister, and looked over her shoulder as her clanmates settled in. I hope we will be alright here for the night, she pondered.

Dawnpelt nodded, rising to her paws, " Let us go at once, " she mewed, and gently picked up Bramblekit by the scruff.

Duskwind flicked his tail to signal that he heard, and he padded ahead without responding. He walked nimbly over the rocks, and his paws carried him to a den on the edge of the rocky outcropping. He sat on the edge, hanging his paws limply over the edge, looking at the stars.

Dawnpelt wanted to mourn today's events terribly, but she held her usual composure. It wouldn't do well to break down now, but when her clan was still in limbo. She looked over her sleeping kits, slightly calmed by the sight of them sleeping. Her ears pricked as she heard paw steps approaching, and turned to watch Flamestar returning to their group.

Duskwind nodded, looking ahead at the mountain once again. " I think I know a place, " he said quietly, thinking of the nights when Hawkpool and him would meet under the night sky. He padded ahead, away from turtle rock, and towards the Pineclan territory. He crossed the border, passing the twin pines that stood as boundary markers, and walked along the rocky foot hills. He lead his leader to a place where a the ground dipped slightly, a clearing in the pines. A few small dens made from rocky outcrops in the hillside, but they were generally out of sight from those who weren't standing directly in front of them.

Dawnpelt felt a stab of pain thinking about that moment when she left Hawkpool behind. All I could think of were my kits. I didn't even fear for her safety..., she thought bitterly. " I'm not sure. It's pointless to think about what would or would not have happened, " she said softly, her tail curling slightly as she spoke.

Duskwind looked sadly at Flamestar and took a long breath. " So where are we going?," he asked, wanting to think about something else for a few moments at least.

Dawnpelt smiled and licked Ashpelt's ear affectionatly. " I know that , my love, " she said, and sat down beside him, watching her sleeping kits.

Duskwind flicked one ear as Flamestar approached him, but didn't speak. He was still staring at the single star in the night.

Dawnpelt nodded, " Yes...maybe it's better that they're asleep for this leg of the journey. This is a lot for kits to handle. " She glanced at the rest of the clan, " For all of us, really. " she mewed solemnly.

Dawnpelt smirked as she saw her kit's sleeping peacefully, their pelts rising with their soft breaths. " Now we're going to have to carry them, " she teased, touching her nose gently to Ashpelt.

Duskwind was still staring at the mountain, and glanced up as he saw the first stay appear in the dimming sky. Is that you?, he thought, staring at the cold light of the first evening star.

( ohh a budding romance i see?)

Dawnpelt nodded, glancing at Fallentree and Feathercloud. " Perhaps have Tigerstripe see to your paw before you go, " she suggested, and padded back to where her kits were resting with Ashpelt.
