"...blood loss," Lucian answered. "...wait. Do you mean you think that the cause of death, has something to do with the identity of the killer? Such as... their talent?"

Lucian raised his hand, in a stop motion. "NO! Shut the f**k up. Kubo has something to say. I think we've got something wrong here!" He looked over at Kaoru. "...we can't risk that."

Sawyer shook their head, insistently, shaking, eyes widening. "IT WASN'T ME! I promise, IT WASN'T!"

For some reason, Sawyer's chest tightened. "N-No! I didn't do it! I wouldn't kill anyone!" Sawyer cried out. "...even though this is all a dream. Have I been hating part of myself recently?" they muttered, reflecting upon the psychological meanings of dreams.

"B-Besides! What motive do I have for killing her?"

Lucian Arbred's POV

"...Kubo. Is something else going on?" he asked. "You said 'wrong', implying there's something wrong with that judgment. Not to mention... are we sure it's Sawyer? What about Sutaraitsu? Where was he?"

But is it Sutaraitsu... either? Aren't there more suspects on the table here? Lucian tapped his index finger to the side of his face, closing his eyes in deep thought.

Who is it? Why isn't it occurring to me?

"It's not me!" Sawyer repeated.

Darcy Harper's POV

"What would Sawyer's motive be, anyway?" Darcy pointed out. "What do you mean by 'jealousy'?!"

"M-Me? How so? I told you already what I was doing." Sawyer was twisting a lock of hair around their finger. "You think I killed 'er?"

Darcy Harper's POV

Darcy shook their head. "...It can't be them. It can't! I'm telling you, Sawyer LITERALLY couldn't hurt a fly."

"...wouldn't?" Sawyer asked.

"No, couldn't. Like you're literally physically incapable of hurting a fly."

"OKAY NOW I'M JUST INSULTED!! THEN I DID KILL HER THEN!" Sawyer grumbled, crossing their arms.

"...Very funny, Soy Bean."

Sawyer muttered angrily under their breath, a pout upon their face.

Darcy rolled her eyes. "...how... can we figure this out? I know Sawyer wouldn't do this. It had to be someone else!"

Lucian Arbred's POV

"...couldn't?" Lucian raised his eyebrows. "I'm pretty sure they're perfectly physically capable of committing a murder. Even with only one good arm. But, yes, Miyako, Sawyer could have been out at night at the time. Is there anyone else who could have done it, if not them?"

"Oh. Yeah. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding. Kaoru's my friend, and we just shared a dorm together. I didn't mean to give off that impression."

He was surprised it was even interpreted that way!

"I'm sorry, Kaoru. I didn't mean to imply that something like that happened." He crossed his arms and sighed. How frustrating. Poor Kaoru.

"...yes! Got it." He cleared his throat. "...okay. Anyone else who hasn't said their alibis yet?"

Sawyer Laurens's POV

Sawyer nodded agreement with Sutaraitsu. "Uhhh, so they slept in a dorm together. What's the issue?" They didn't seem to recognize the implications of the wording. "Why's everybody acting weird? Is there something I'm not getting?"

Darcy Harper's POV

(First, I'll reply to Mei lmao)
"..." Darcy didn't know how to respond to the chocolates part. "Stop messing around! Don't joke about killing people..."

Oh damn. She really didn't expect that from Lucian, somehow. Did he seriously just say that out loud?!

Then... Darcy heard the next remark. Her eyes widened.
"...shut up. Shut up. I- anyone who kills someone is just SICK. That's all there is to it."

Darcy looked at Akora. "...yeah. We're dormmates. I can confirm Akora's whereabouts."

They sighed in frustration. Sawyer really didn't get a lot of things, did they? Just by looking at Kaoru... she knew. She liked Lucian. And from Lucian's response, he'd basically just said, "I don't think of her in a romantic way, and I probably never, ever will."

Arden raised their eyebrows. The question was... was this a test? Had they done it correctly? What did the Truthkeeper want them to do next?

He looked over at the Truthkeeper, biting his lip, trying to gauge a response. Perhaps they'd been overthinking this whole thing, not a test of any sort, they were all merely gathering strength for the trials ahead.

But Arden would rather go hungry than risk poison.

In a way, Arden was glad they hadn't spoken yet. The last thing they wanted to do was to invite their companions to take some sort of advantage of them. Or to, worse, think they were friends! Arden shuddered. Never can any of us be friends. You're all inferior to me.

He would have scowled, but held back on making a face, in case their superiors were watching. Ayran must've thought this was some joke, clearly he wasn't taking this seriously. Either that, or the friendly way he acted was completely fake... in which case, he was actually cunning. Someone to look out for. Arden took that to note.

Darcy's face flushed. "N-n... NO I DON'T!! It's not important. Anyway. That would just be stupid and weird and wrong... And..."

Darcy trailed off, quickly changing the subject. "Y-Yeah. Good point. A lot had... To be done." They became queasy, remembering Horatia's dead body. "The question is... What did the killer do?"

Lucian Arbred's POV

Lucian bit his lips and almost rolled his eyes. No one ever said that. He guessed yet another person here was delusional. Or at least, Kubo was VERY insecure if his mind jumped to that.

Akora and Solaro were right, however. They couldn't all jump to conclusions about who the killer was.

He nodded in agreement at the point Kubo and Kaoru brought up. "...I'd have to agree. If we're to assume that to be the case, who among us have alibis for last night?"

Sawyer Laurens's POV

"Hey, couldja not eat people? That's kinda creepy!" Sawyer exclaimed. "...I mean, honestly, why would you do a thing like that?"

Darcy wrinkled her nose in disgust. "Yeah. It... Honestly is."

"Anyway, uhh, I was looking for Kaoru's bag. And then I sorta wound up wandering about."

"I was in my dorm," Darcy added.

"...Kaoru let me in to my dorm, with her, last night. We slept there, together," Lucian stated.

Darcy looked over at Mei, paling. "...if you would actually kill anyone here, that is absolutely sick."

"...to investigate a murder," Lucian replied to Sutaraitsu. "...and if we don't find the culprit, it's a nice, slow death for all of us. You interested in helping?"

He raised his eyebrows at Mika. "...interesting. Why specifically her? Is this our interrogation tactic now? We just accuse people for no apparent reason?"

Darcy Harper's POV

"Frankly. I almost wouldn't mind if it was her," Darcy half-muttered, but they weren't serious at all. "I DON'T WANT IT TO BE ANYONE! Why can't it be that stupid bear or his glitzy abusive companion? Where is she, anyway?!"

Sawyer Laurens's POV

Sawyer shrugged. "Dunno! But I'm curious where this is going!" They began to eat nonexistent popcorn out of thin air, while Darcy rolled her eyes.

"Oh, you mean our swordfight with knives instead of real swords?" Sawyer asked, blinking, totally not referencing Resident Enis 2. "Didn't I win that one? It was so epic! I remember it so clearly, how Horamomo suddenly put down her knife all like "ALAS! Thee half bested mine fine sword art!" or something like that! You saw it, right, Shi?"

Lucian wondered a moment if they were joking, but then realized. Sawyer had reframed the memory in a different way, with a completely new event playing out in their mind.

"...Darcy. Could Sawyer have killed her, and not even know it?"

Darcy Harper's POV

"...m-maybe," Darcy admitted. "But guys, we can't just jump to conclusions!"

"...or rely too much on emotional biases. Darcy, please."

"IT LOOKS TOO DELIBERATE! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU THINK SI- SAWYER WOULD DO THIS!" Darcy stammered. "SHUT UP, MOM. SHUT UP!"

"Everyone is different when it comes to bodies. And to trauma," Lucian stated, in response to Idris and Mei's conversation. "Personally... I've seen a few things."

He nodded carefully. "I suspect Sawyer, Sutaraitsu, Miyako, and possibly Mei. Although it could very well be someone else. I have reason to believe that anyone locked out of the dorms at the time could have committed the crime. However, I may be missing something."

Lucian looked over at Kubo. "...mind sharing your thoughts? You seem to know something we all don't."

Darcy Harper's POV

Sawyer wouldn't do that. Darcy reflected, on what she had said earlier. But wait... Wasn't that another matter?

"The motive!" Darcy exclaimed. "Who would have done this? Did anyone have anything they may have held against Horatia? Monokuma said... The killer motives were used, though. So that might not help us. By maybe, just maybe, there was a reason why Horatia specifically was targeted!"

Darcy was holding their hand over their heart as she exclaimed it, as though it was something that desperately needed to be said.

Lucian nodded agreement.
"She was the Ultimate Time-Traveler. Did someone perhaps not want something to be altered, or could it have been a personal grudge of some sort? No, it may have been something else." Lucian bit his lip. "Puzzling."

Sawyer Laurens's POV

"Why did the killer specifically decorate her with leeks?" Sawyer asked, tilting their head to the side. "Seems a tad symbolic to me, but unnecessary!"

"That's right!" Sawyer exclaimed, and said, in unison with Lucian, "Blood takes anywhere from 45 to 75 minutes to dry."

Sawyer blinked. "AAAAYYY, wait a minute, Lucian, how'dja know that?"

Lucian looked away, seemingly not wanting to show his face.
"...reasons."

"So the killer musta sneaky-sneaked on in there like Swiper from Dora the Explorer and swiped her diggity-dang life?"

"NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR MEMING AND RANDOM REFERENCES, SAWYER!" Darcy yelled.

"Okie-doke. Soooo. Who coulda done it in like a vague period of uhh, an hour or more ago? Musta taken place this morning or last night."

"It was probably... Someone outside the dorms at the time of the closing," Darcy choked out.

Darcy looked in Kubo's direction. He always seemed to know what he was doing.
She admired that, honestly. The fact he was taking charge in this situation.
Darcy's eyebrows furrowed, twisted, their teeth gritted.

"SHUT. UP. Shut up, both of you! Shut the hell up, Mei. SHUT UP, Lucian. SHUT UP, KAORU!" She stomped her foot. "SAWYER DIDN'T DO THIS! They wouldn't do this! I know them! I-"

Please... don't let it be them. Please.

Darcy's hands flew up to their face, as she broke into a sob.

Sawyer Laurens's POV

Sawyer's heart thudded. "I was lookin' for the bag! I couldn't find it though. And then the dorms closed... I think I kinda wandered that night. Didn't really sleep. I was bored outta my mind!"

"Anyway, yeah, I don't really want to, like, confess to doing anything. It would be more interesting if we actually solve this!"

Sawyer was shocked at Darcy's outburst.

Did... she just openly defend them?

"Dace... thank you."

Lucian Arbred's POV

Lucian's eyebrows raised at Darcy's sudden outburst. He took a deep breath.

"I didn't mean Sawyer did this with certainty. There's a lot to tackle. I merely brought it up as a possibility."

Sawyer was still suspicious. But there were other suspects to consider as well.

"I suppose so. Is there anything about the body we can use to discern the time of death?"

I thought I remembered Mom saying something about that...

Lucian glared at Mei. "That's enough. Quit randomly throwing accusations around. That's not solving anything."

He had to admit, Sutaraitsu was also a suspect.

"We're here to solve a murder, and not die in the process."

Darcy looked over at Lucian with a slight smile. Lucian had the feeling she was thinking At least he didn't mean Sawyer definitely did it.

"Yeah!" Sawyer chirped, half-laughing. "So. How do we figure out the time of death thingy?"

Sawyer looked in Akora's direction. "Mayyyybe. Maybe something about the injuries might tell us too!"

Lucian nodded. "Yes... maybe. Who saw her last?"

Darcy crossed their arms, glaring in Mei's direction. There was a clear sense of hurt and betrayal in her eyes.
You are such a sick JERK. Why do I even... why do I even...
No, God no. I can't. That's horrific.

She was disgusting. Showing pain like this... and...

Darcy inhaled. "I'm so sorry... God, forgive me, please."

Where was Shi going with the cauterizing? Why might the killer have done that?...

Was there... something incriminating in the blood?

Lucian Arbred's POV

Lucian pondered to himself their predicament. Hiding somewhere among them, was the killer. The reason they were all here in this room.

He knew there was something he wasn't getting. The questions of the circumstances of the murder boiled together in his mind, all trying to come together into some kind of answer.

It was almost like... a jigsaw puzzle, one where all the pieces wouldn't quite come together. He tried rotating them, trying to get them to fit. But it looked like he was missing pieces.

So much uncertainty lingered in the air. Was the killer attempting to hide the weapon? The cause of death? The time?...

"Does the Monokuma file have any information on the weapon?" Lucian queried. Something else bothered him.

When was... the time of death? Last night? Shortly before? Perhaps a longer duration beforehand?

But then there was yet another question. Multiple people may have been outside their dorms. Five minutes wasn't a lot of time.

His mind shifted backward in time, to banging on the door, hoping, just hoping, that Sawyer was safe. And it turned out, they were safe. But...

Although he didn't want to consider it, the possibility lingered in his mind.

"...Sawyer. When the dorms were closing, what kept you? Why did you never come back?"

Sawyer Laurens's POV

Sawyer blinked curiously, but their eyes were widening. "Eh? Whatcha mean? I was getting Kaoru's bag! She left it behind in the cafeteria!" they chirped.

Darcy's hands flew up to her mouth. They looked nauseated, as though on the verge of throwing up.

"...L-Lucian... you don't mean..."

"It's a possibility. Why would finding Kaoru's bag take so long? What could they have done in that time frame?"

Admiration stirred within Lucian as he watched Setsuna volunteer. He would have of course done the same -- had it not been completely, utterly useless due to the rule about the killer.

"That was very brave of you to offer, Setsuna. I would have done the same. But I'm afraid as awful as it is... We need to find the actual killer."

It wasn't fair. He knew it wasn't fair. Something in him knew it wasn't fair.

Sometimes, out in the world, things were this way. But why? Why should they all have to take the life of...

"I don't think I saw anyone during dinnertime. ...except Kaoru. I didn't attend. I found Setsuna inside his dorm."

Sawyer Laurens's POV

"I think I mighta seen her during dinnertime! Dunno if I remember or not, though!" Sawyer piped up.

They glanced, curiously over at Setsuna. So willing to sacrifice his life.

Of course he was. This was... A dream. All just a dream.

Darcy Harper's POV

"I don't think I was the last person to see her! I... I ate some food, and... Miyako did something to Kubo's face, and I wanted to help clean it off, and..." Darcy burst into tears. "...wh-why... Why did she have to die?"

Sawyer blinked curiously. "I dunno. It just happened."

Darcy made small hiccuping noises as she cried. "...I didn't know her. Not even her name, I don't think. But whoever she was, she didn't deserve this!!"

Sawyer looked as though they almost flinched.

"...what does the Monokuma File say?" Lucian asked hollowly.

Lucian turned in Shi's direction. "Cauterized? For what reason? ...I did notice, the body looked off..."

Darcy picked up the Monokuma File with great reluctance...
