re: the Rods-- I'd definitely want them to be key items myself! The Old Rod could be priced like the Explorer Bag is, which was...what, 5k? It's something that's a pretty easy milestone for newer members, but you still have to actually work and gain experience in the site to obtain it. Upgrades would be available but they would of course be appropriate advanced price tiers.

Yeah, I'd disagree on the Red Gyarados too because it's just a shiny.

As for wait times, I'd agree on that if it was like... a minimum amount. If the system is behaving the same as the Tree, you're waiting either way, and it'd be a little unfair to have someone waiting hours for something to bite and then be told they can't cast again for however long.
But if there's say a 1 hour minimum wait, if you catch something in 20 minutes you'd only have to wait out the next 40 before casting again. (maybe with the excuse that you have to untangle your line, ahaha)

@Acer: I was thinking about the Berry idea, actually! They could be a "general bait", since Berry value isn't really focused on already it doesn't *need* to be given much importance here (it could? either way). It'd do you better than fishing with a bare line, but all it would do is increase your chances of catching something sooner.

And then there could be 'legit' Bait, which could guarantee you a certain rarity catch instead of leaving you up to random chance. Of course, you'd need to find it through specific means or events like Honey Jars, or if the Shop is selling it you'd need to pay out the nose for it. It wouldn't be easy!

Just tossing this out there, it crossed my mind when I was checking the Honey tree.
What about a fishing area? It could behave about the same way as the tree does in that you cast your line and just wait. It'd be a way to obtain certain rarer water types, like the ones which are rod-exclusive ingame [people might even be able to reel in water starters as a super rare event? or if there's bait implemented, maybe by using a special hard-to-get kind] but perhaps you could also reel in treasures, like valuables to sell (pearls, star pieces, etc) or certain evo items (probably stones?).

Also, it could be added into the Route 53 page, a split-path setup where you can check the pond/river/what have you or the tree.

Of course parts of this overall could be scrapped due to being unecessary/overpowered/difficult to implement. I just figured I should share it, because why not. u__u;;

I'm awful at picking favorite Pokemon, I have a lot of them that occupy that Top Tier. I think Dusknoir caps out, though? other favorites being Tangrowth, Roserade, Cofagrigus, Simisear, Hypno... >:|c a-a lot of them, with a trend of physical powerhouses and big hands/arms. Except Stunfisk and Palpitoad, who have no arms at all.

My favorite shiny's probably Porygon-Z! Due to a heavy bias, of course- one of my favorite OCs to use is a shiny Porygon. `w` (I'm also unfamiliar with shinies in general)

For a starter, I'm tied between Infernape, Emboar and Marshtomp! I loved the designs of the first two and Water/Ground is one of my favorite type mixes.

I'm on record saying Deoxys is my favorite legendary with the Regi family close behind. Darkrai's another Pokemon I love because of a character bias, but I don't like how the fandom treats it and it turns me away from it.
