ok, got it. Raeyn destroyed her own conduit, thus destroying her own limited immortality and passed out. Viper saved her with some weird potion thing, then was locked up for the paranoid Wardens' amusement. Raeyn wakes up, orders her release. Thiria overhears and demands to come along to check if Viper's intentions are really pure. Viper proven not guilty, released. Liana comes along and is currently entering the Ruins. Raeyn runs away from the infirmary and curious Wardens and is alerted by an NPC Gravity Warden that there's a meeting at Arcane Fountain, and asks her to take her there. They get shot out of the air by a currently unknown force and they land nearby the battlefield. Viper and Drake catch up with Raeyn, who FOR SOME REASON CAN MANIPULATE THE DARKNESS WITHOUT A CONDUIT WITHOUT SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUSTING (to be explained later.....). Also the shadows are a little red. yeah. Liana comes along, Drake and Viper take defensive stances and whatnot cuz yeah Slendurian. Liana then introduces herself and we're left on that because I'm procrastinating. [Read more] |

----When a group of nosy Wardens decided to take matters into their own hands and come into the infirmary to speak to the once Warden of Darkness, they were more than mortified to see that the occupant had left their bed. ----The target was already, by that time, in her house, replacing her bloodied, dirty clothes for a fresh new ones. Once she looked in the mirror, she nearly did a double-take. ----"My God," Raeyn mumbled, eyes fixated on her reflection. ----She looked like a completely different person without the "dark" get-up. Dressed in a pair of blue jeans and a random lace tee (where did THAT come from?) and a denim vest thrown over it, she looked, well, almost normal. Out of pure instinct, she lifted her left arm to eye level, her eyes scouring it probably for the fifteenth time. The symbol was still there. ----Raeyn suddenly realized that her skin felt feverish, and sat down tiredly on her bed. Burying her head in her worn hands, she inhaled deeply. She'd spent millennia running away from who she was, going as far as to follow the call of the first Wardens. She didn't even KNOW who she was anymore. The power of darkness had been at her command with the slightest movement for the past years; without it, she felt vulnerable. ----But at the same time, she felt power coursing through her veins. It was familiar and dreaded, like an old symptom of a long forgotten disease resurfacing. She had run and run, ignoring the consequences that trailed after her loyally. ----"MISS WILMIST!" ----Raeyn's head shot up immediately, eyes already narrowed, her body tensing. A petite girl with fair hair and stunning blue eyes hovered just right outside of her bedroom window, its shades pulled back. A Warden of Gravity, Raeyn quickly noted as she briskly got to her feet and approached her. A new one at that, seeing as the girl had not yet developed the wary fear of the more experienced Wardens towards Raeyn. She seemed completely unperturbed at Raeyn's comparably more colorful clothing. ----"Miss, our Code Wardens managed to intercept several enemy messages," The girl's blue eyes glittered with anticipation. "Everyone who isn't on duty is being called to Arcane Fountain." ----Even as she spoke, the telltale ringing of a bell sounded across the ruins, thrumming with power. The urgency in its gentle tones made Raeyn's skin prickle. She inclined her head to the gravity-defying Warden. "Take me there." ----"But Miss, there are others fretting about-" ----"Don't worry about them, ah, what is your name?" ----"Dena. Denaesse Alasner, miss." ----"You need not worry about them, Dena. They may be able to restrain some Wardens, but they don't have the authority to do it to me," The words were accompanied with an outstretched hand, which the somewhat hesitant Dena grabbed. ----The Ruins sent out a melancholic feel with the remnants of battle still scarring the surface. They hadn't had time to clean up. Not with the increasing of attacks. Nevertheless, up there in the air, one could truly marvel how beautiful the place really was. The ground sloped upwards to the shimmering Beacon, a dazzling array of colors sprinkled over its glass-like surface, reflecting them to the sky. The crumbling debris surrounding the small haven seemed almost symbolic: life emerging from the depths of ruin. Valhalla Morrow glistened like a white pearl in the murky darkness of the ocean deep. Its houses were battle-worn, but still standing. The dining pavilion proudly looked over a mass of orchards with winding paths only those of nature could navigate. There were no prominent signs that oh so frequented the human cities, but impalpable clues only Wardens could ever decipher were scattered everywhere. Raeyn felt like she could stay there all day, describing everything in full detail, but knew more important matters lay close at hand. Dena obediently headed in the direction of Arcane Fountain, the largest square in the jumbled mess of a city, its notable fountain of water as large as a small house, powered by arcane magic that the Beacon sent off in rivulets. ----However, as they were but a small distance from their main destination, an unbalance of arcane magic was detected by Raeyn's honed senses, and Dena halted mid-air at her command. ----"Do you feel that, Dena?" Raeyn questioned as her eyes searched frantically for the source. ----"Ummm...that tingly feeling? Yes. My mentor told me that's what happens when a Warden or Chosen suffers an undercurrent of emotion. Apparently it unlocks a brief, but powerful level that can allow even a Chosen to momentarily access Warden powers without even pledging," Dena recalled after a moment, allowing herself a content smile at her success. ----Raeyn nodded in assent, her eyes still roving the Ruins. "Emotions are an important part of Warden Magic. Some struggle with this as some worlds don't allow feelings. But it can also be dangerous if out of control. That one brief moment may be all that takes to destroy a Warden's sanity." ----"Like Uriel? My mentor told me about him," Dena offered curiously. ----"Ah, poor Uriel," Raeyn mused absentmindedly. "But correct." A flicker of realization dawned on her face. "Wait. You're new, aren't you? Where are the other Gravity Wardens?" ----Dena looked surprised at the sudden revelation. "Oh. The others left are trying to fix up a sunken building that nears the East Border. The Earthbolls caused a mess." ----Raeyn nodded mildly, satisfied. "What about your mentor?" ----"Oh, mentor Azinina is-" ----Raeyn felt herself drop as Dena screamed. Both were blasted out of the air, and the new Warden couldn't reign in her powers from the conflicting emotions. Raeyn didn't have time to see who had done it. Instinctively, she swept her hand in front of her, intent on drawing in the nearest shadows. She was already halfway through when she remembered she didn't have a conduit anymore. Eyes wide, she expected to spontaneously combust in the next few seconds. But she was already speeding them to safety with the assistance of the fiery shadows. They touched down to the ground, Raeyn vaguely realizing they were by the battlefield. ----"Are you alright? Dena? Dena?" She inquired frantically, examining the shell-shocked girl. ----"The shadows..." was all Dena could stutter out, eyes wide and innocent. ----With renewed horror, Raeyn looked at the shadows closely for the first time. They didn't seem different at first, then she noticed the most subtle flicker of red within the black mass. The symbol on her forearm seemed to burn as she whispered, "Oh, no." [Read more] |

Darkness. Raeyn was getting awfully tired of this scenario by now. She could not track the time that had passed as she sat there with no light, her coat billowing behind her like there was a strong breeze trying to whisk it away. But there was no breeze. There was nothing. "Why am I not dead yet?" Raeyn mumbled irritably, staring boredly at the wide expanse of darkness that encompassed her surroundings. "Or God forbid, you're not trying to bore me to death?" "You always did have a habit of guessing exactly what I was trying to do," a voice responded dryly. The former Warden of Darkness tensed, eyes widening with shock as she stood. That voice...she knew that voice.... "Terry?" she hesitantly called out. "There's my girl," came the voice again as a vaguely familiar figure came into view, with them coming light. There was absolutely no hesitation as Raeyn broke into a run, crashing into the miraculously corporeal person. "Ow! You know you're still heavy!" Terry whined, nevertheless grinning. Raeyn raised her hand, almost afraid, gripping his shoulder. "You're really there? Does this mean I'm dead?" she asked softly. "This is me, but no, you're not dead yet," Terry's grin mellowed slightly. An exasperated sigh emitted from Raeyn's throat, and she drew her hand back...and slapped him. The force was strong enough to push back the stunned Terry who let loose a string of vehement curses. "What the hell was that for?" "For making me wait, you damned prat," Raeyn hissed half-heartedly, already embracing him again and stepping back. "What is going on?" "Ah," Terry mused. "This is where things get serious. I never liked the serious stuff," He muttered with a straight face. "Terry," Raeyn stated in a warning tone. "Okay, okay!" Terry held up his hands in surrender for a moment before jamming them into his pockets. "So anyway, you destroyed your blade willingly. Released the power of voodoo darkness and stuff. Oh, and critically injured yourself while at it," He shot her a look of such disapproval that Raeyn winced. "Almost to the brink of death. Your magic roots protected you though." "But...I abandoned-" "I'm fully aware of what you did," Terry cut in, but not unkindly. "It's in your blood, Rae. You can't abandon that." "Then if I'm not dead, why am I here, talking to you, who is dead?" A sly smile spread across Terry's features, making Raeyn regret she even asked. "But who ever said I was dead, Rae?" Raeyn Wilmist jolted upwards, sweating profusely and her breathing shallow. Her guard jumped awake as well, staring at her in astonishment. Adrenaline was surging through her veins, blood being pumped so fast when it was supposed to be stagnant. The first thing that came into her mind was a blurry vision of a young girl, leaning over her, dripping something into her mouth. "Release her at once," Raeyn rasped, trying to stand. "Release who, Ma'am?" Her guard, who was a Warden of Metal she noted, asked in confusion. Raeyn's dark eyes locked onto the woman's ashy grey. "The stranger who saved my life, but wasn't a Warden. Release her, I order it, Leise." Leise nodded reluctantly, already heading out of the room. They had placed her in the infirmary, Raeyn noted with mild surprise, in a separate room. The place was carefully partitioned into a hundred or so so rooms, seeing as some injuries and magical maladies were greatly perturbing or highly infectious. Raeyn moved to stand up, but gasped in pain as heat shot up her forearm. Grabbing at it, her dark eyes widened perhaps for the billionth time that day. "Oh hell," She breathed, staring at the symbol of the burning eye now tattooed on her arm. [Read more] |

Flames leaping and burning, scorching everything as they stroked the surface of Matilda's house. Screams filling the air, echoing with renewed vigor each time. Faces of her parents, tears dropping, sizzling in the ruby heat... Matilda jolted upwards, her legs twisting awkwardly as she fell off the bed, her breathing erratic and sweat plastering her clothes to her hot skin. An involuntary groan emitted from her mouth as her luminous eyes spun wildly, trying to determine her surroundings. She was safe. In...Trix's apartment. As her heart pounded against her breastbone, Mattie shifted in her uncomfortable position, managing to straighten her limbs, flexing them to make sure nothing was broken. Trix was nowhere to be seen, probably off somewhere. The young bluenette stretched, the muscles in her back cracking as they moved. Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, Mattie unsteadily rose from the floor, heading for the bathroom...There was a bathroom, right? After washing up, she glanced at her worn and rumpled clothes with slight contempt, already ripping them off as she did so. A cool breeze wafted in and she shivered as she hurried to her suitcase, fingers accustomed to the zipper. Clothes snatched as they fell in mid-air and slipped over her frail body. Her loyal combat boots fitting perfectly onto her feet, and her hair hastily set back in place with her headband. Mattie didn't bother checking herself over as she pulled on her favorite silver cardigan, and spun around out of habit, kicking off the speck of dust that had decided to settle on her boots. Pulling out her phone from the bag with some hesitation, she looked through it. No texts as usual. She rarely ever acknowledged she even had the flimsy device, but kept it around for emergencies. Reluctantly slipping it into her jean pocket, Mattie scanned the room for an exit. Doors, she had decided, were overrated and for people with no imagination. She skipped towards the fire escape, jumping down the last few steps while trying to cushion her descent by displacing the air. Surprisingly, it had worked at the last second, and she saved herself from a sprained ankle. Five minutes later, the fourteen year old found herself completely lost on what to do. The main reason she'd gone out was to try and find Trix and distract herself from the death of her parents. A quick glimpse into a nearby shop window showed a television reporting a fire in one of the houses, and Matilda looked away, blinking back tears. Her vision blurring, she broke into a brisk walk, not checking to see where she was going. A hand, she dimly realized, had shot out of nowhere and grabbed her forearm and yanked her to a wall. Her head banged against the hard substance from the momentum, and that was all she needed to wake up from her half-dream. As a knife hurtled towards her, oh so slowly in her eyes, Mattie twisted her body away, the knife embedding itself on the wall, nearly snagging her cardigan. The hooligan had literally no idea what he had gotten into. Where the girl was held suddenly burned bright hot as static electricity shot through him, making him stumble backwards in pain and horror as he glimpsed the pure fury in the indigo eyes that glistened with tears. The attacker ducked instinctively, thinking perhaps the girl had not been the best choice, reaching for the knife. Surprisingly, she did not try to stop him. She stood there, her eccentric hair seemingly sparking as strands fluttered and fell in an erratic manner. The knife shone as it caught a stray beam of light in the alleyway he had dragged the girl into, and as it aimed for the heart. Mattie moved into the attack, her hand already twisting the attacker's wrist into a painful angle as she twisted a kick to the shin and an elbow to the stomach. Gasping for air, they fell back, their numb wrist losing all feeling as the knife clattered to the ground. "Should have picked someone else," Matilda stated thoughtfully as she reached down and pulled the boy, who could not have been more than eighteen, by his stained collar to his feet. The other hand ascended almost lazily, planting itself against the boy's chest. For a moment, there was nothing. Then screams permeated the air as the hand burned white hot, heat licking away at the clothing and almost...almost to the skin... [Read more] |

A quick glance at their new surroundings made Keelin note that the house seemed almost lifeless, much like the ghost who had dragged her there. The woman who answered the door obviously was Atticus' mother, and Keelin decided not to speak at all. "Your mom can't see you?" was the first thing that popped out of Keelin's mouth. She sat down, her bright green eyes inspecting the ghost girl with wariness and curiosity. [Read more] |

Keelin waved her hand carelessly while shooting some passerby a look of pure venom. They immediately looked away. "Pft, screw them," She muttered, "but okay." Arching an eyebrow, she made eye contact with Atticus. "My surname is Wetherall," She mumbled. "And since when did I become a registered medium?" She inquired curiously. [Read more] |

Pure, complete darkness. She couldn't feel anything. Numbness spread through her entire being. ...How could she have been so foolish to believe she would survive? Her kind could survive hundreds of years yes, but as a Warden, she'd lived millennia. The chances of survival were no thicker than a breadth's hair. But even back then, she wasn't normal. Not even remotely. "...nie..." Raeyn froze. "...phanie..." A horrible, chilly feeling momentarily forced back the numbness. The voices...were calling for her. "...Stephanie..." Fear struck where her heart used to be. No. It couldn't be. Then their faces swam up, clouding her consciousness with their faces...their hands...reaching...touching...and everything began flooding back... My name. I was born in a universe where every person had three names. Well, with the exception of the clueless mortals, they usually only had two. One was our given name, the kind you put on a birth certificate. The second was our taken name. The third was unknown to the majority, our true name. The name I took was something that instilled fear into the bravest hearts. I left it behind a long time ago. My given name, you ask? It doesn't really matter now. My sister...she was a world-breaker. But if that was she, I was even worse. ...My name... It was Alice. Something was stirring inside Raeyn. She was semi-conscious. But how? Abandoning her conduit...it should have killed her. She tried to twitch a finger, the feeling returning...oh so slowly. Too slow. Raeyn Wilmist would not stand for that. She shot to a sitting position, and immediately regretted it. Pain raged through her veins like a wildfire, jangling her nerves. When the aftermath passed, there came the weakness. "I...not....leave..." Her face muscles hurt when she frowned. Ow. "Never...leave..." That voice... Why was it insistently calling to her? Why? Raeyn tried to blink, but despite the feeling of her eyelids moving, she saw nothing. Just the darkness. "Ra....eyn...." Terry? Terry? What? Raeyn tried to reach out for him mentally, but was slammed back by a force field. Joy, she was not only powerless, catching up to her age, but also unable to sense anything logical happening. Feeling returned to her jaw. Those faithful, faithful teeth. Her tongue was moving. Her vocal chords spun back to coordination. "Alec?" [Just to clarify, all enemies have either been driven away, destroyed, or being hunted by the remaining Wardens.] [Read more] |
