Sawyer Laurens's POVLucian Arbred is not available rnDarcy Harper's POVNo. I can't do that. They put it back. Just why? First, the girl that was probably Satan incarnate, and then... Sawyer? They didn't want to be in love with them. That wasn't supposed to happen. ...that wasn't. Supposed. To. Happen. When did things become such a mess? And would you even... love me, if you knew... ...it's not true, it's not true. What were they even thinking of? Nothing. Of course, nothing. Darcy was flipping through a Bible. Luke. Matthew. Mark. John. Revelation. Genesis. Exodus. Acts... Memorizing every page that came to their eyes. Mom said to try to read the whole thing, at least twice a day. That was hard to fit in... But a good practitioner of the Lord's will knew his word like the back of his hand. Darcy would spend many a day, looking out the window of the church. Sawyer would be playing outside, waiting for them to get out. Probably dribbling a soccer ball, or wearing a book for a hat, maybe they were performing some kind of balancing act, making silly faces. Lucian Arbred’s POVHe was already gone. He sighed, and put his hands in his shorts pockets. He could try talking to him later, he supposed. Maybe. What could he expect from Kubo, anyway?... What could he expect from… people, anyway? People were messed up. “I guess… deep down... I just wanted to believe.” I wanted to believe people were better than I thought. But… He looked back at Kaoru’s swaying, limp body. His vision flashed, replacing Kaoru with an image of his sister. He paled. The question was… what was his next move? Maybe the next move was to prevent the next murder from happening. But who knew what the bear would come up with next? And I can’t be everywhere at once. Well. There was one thing he could do, to prevent the next murder from happening. If he provided therapy for everyone, he could at least prevent psychological problems from provoking a death. Be it a murder, or a suicide… Lucian faced those remaining in the room. “...if anyone needs to talk, I’ll be in the Nurse’s Office.” There was nowhere to go but forward. He spotted Setsuna. Oh! The person I got the nuggets for. “...hey. I really appreciated what you said there. Darcy Harper's POVSawyer was like... a huge nerd brain. Somehow, they always got great grades without even trying! And that... really frustrated Darcy. You couldn't expect Sawyer to excel at sports either, considering they weren't particularly physically fit, BUT THEY WERE GOOD AT SPORTS. They were a natural with computers! It seemed like they always effortlessly passed the tests, that their brain just absorbed every bit of information, and it all came out right! They were great at math. Great at science. Great at... everything. And Darcy always just saw them chattering away to others, always seeming like they had so, so much freedom. So, so much spare time... Every time Darcy tried their best, it felt like Sawyer always wound up doing better. Get a B, Sawyer got a A-. Get an A, Sawyer got an A+. Always just... somehow ahead. And maybe it wouldn't be so bothersome, if they didn't do it so effortlessly. Darcy knew that if they asked them for help, Sawyer would probably be willing to. But... Darcy couldn't stand that. Darcy wanted their best to be better. They knew it was petty, to resent Sawyer for it. But, there was more to it than just that. And combined with everything else? It was just too much... I burned that bridge a long time ago, Sawyer. Sometimes, though, it feels like you act as though nothing ever happened. Like you always do. Just two days after the funeral, you seemed just fine. They closed their eyes. Just... why? How can you act so happy and unbothered about everything? I wish I could be like that. I wish I didn't feel so upset whenever something bad happens. Sawyer Laurens's POVSawyer skipped around the room, wondering when the plot would proceed and if they should have character interactions with anybody. "Going where?!" Sawyer chirped. "Where's everybody going?" they asked Miyako, curiosity sparkling in their eyes. Darcy Harper's POVWait a minute... what should I do? Nothing, obviously. ...what were they even supposed to say, anyway? Darcy felt Miyako pry herself away, and embarrassed, they stopped hugging her and Setsuna. The problem brewed within Darcy's mind. Besides the obvious one... What would they even say, anyway? "Oh, hey, Sawyer! I have a crush on you. And there is no freaking way you feel the same way! And things are super awkward between us, ever since..." Darcy shuddered. They... Almost felt bad... What had gone on for Sawyer, since they'd parted? And who was I, anyway, leaving them, the way I did? They stared at a wall. "Mom...," Darcy murmured, hugging their arms tightly to their chest. "I'm sorry. And yet... Sometimes I resent you, for what you did." Images flashed in Darcy's mind, like photographs in an album. Their lives playing out. There was a time when they were both best friends. But then... Things happened, in life, like they do... Darcy curled up in a corner, tears welling up in their eyes. The day Mom said... The day she said... That I couldn't... Hiccuping sobs came from Darcy. Just come see me." But he moved in Kubo's direction, and whispered in his ear. "Hey... be careful, okay? I don't think people will kill you just because of what Kaoru said. Lucian Arbred's POVHe couldn't bear to watch it. (No puns intended.) "...I...I..." She's really gone. His eyes burst out into tears. He wasn't even... all too horrified at the bloody scene. But rather... that she had to suffer through that. That Kaoru Kajiwara, was really gone. "I failed you," he choked out. "I failed you. This is all my fault." Lucian Arbred wasn't afraid of dying. Heck, he'd gladly kick the bucket if it benefited others. But... He had two reasons for living. One, so that he could continue to help others, as the Ultimate Therapist. And now, two. His promise to Kaoru. That he would live, and make it out of here. And he clutched this promise tightly to his heart, as though it were physical. "I'll get out... for both of us." Darcy Harper's POVDarcy looked hollowly at the remains of Kaoru Kajiwara. They wanted to vomit. They felt empathy for her, in there. It was like Grandpa, all over again, when he slowly died from cancer. Except so much pain hit Kaoru, all at once. "...please. Take good care of her," they choked out. "Take good care of her." Is that... going to happen to me? Am I going to die too? Are you even out there, Lord? They didn't even know Miyako and Setsuna, but came over and hugged them. Darcy didn't care. They looked so hurt. Why did Sawyer feel themself quivering in fear, that Kaoru's presence... was no longer near them? No, Kaoru was fine! She just went away somewhere. Kaoru is on vacation! That's just a knockoff! Sawyer laughed. "It's okay! It's fine. Nothing's wrong. Everything's cool! Cupcakes, puppies!" they exclaimed, waving their hands. The truth hit him, and his eyes responded with wetness slithering down his cheeks. She was in love with me. She was... soon to be, had been, in love with him. And he had never thought of her that way. He recalled her hurt face earlier. ...what could he say? Lie that he loved her too? No. She might realize, that might hurt more... "...Kaoru," he choked out. He hugged himself, the tears slithering down his face, a sad smile upon his expression. His fists readied, he glared in Mei's direction. "...I didn't f**king sleep with her, and it doesn't f**king matter, you got that? And if I didn't have a heart in my goddamn chest I'd probably f**king kill you!" he snapped at Mei. And Si- Sawyer was there. Well... Simon at the time. That's not their name anymore. "Simon?... What are you doing here?" Darcy had asked, in puzzlement. "I just... saw you crying in here. Are you okay?" "...I- I don't know. I don't know if he's going to make it. I don't know what to do." "Hey... it's okay! I'm sure he'll be fine!" "...y-you're sure?" Darcy sniffled, wiping her tears. "Yeah!" Simon tilted his head and smiled at her. "Just trust me! Everything will be okay." Si- Sawyer hugged me, and... for a moment, I thought, I just thought, everything might be okay.
