Orsteinbyr

A decent size port in the north, on the northern and eastern sides cliffs surround the town protecting it from the worst of the blizzards and the biting winds. To the west the oft frozen ocean stretches off to the horizon. To the south snow laden plains extend for as far as the eye can see. From Orsteinbyr's walls icicles extend down and the torches barely melt them. Within Orsteinbyr itself there is a longhouse, typical of the northern towns and villages, that is inhabited by Göran and his family, a smithy where his daughter works and several small houses where tanning racks are a common sight. A mine extends into the cliff on the northern side where iron and coal are mined. Residents of Orsteinbyr make their living by fishing, mining or most commonly raiding various cities and towns along the coast. In the winter months boats are dragged from the harbour out to the nearest stretch of water and in the short summer months the boats are oft launched from the harbour itself.

The first paragraph from a story I'm currently writing:

The rain thundered down, coating the woman's seal skin coat. It was too muggy, too rainy in the south, she decided. The gates of the city came into view and the woman spurred her horse on.
"Who goes there?" A guard on the wall yelled, they had another trainee at the gate, she noted bitterly.
"I wish to speak to Lady Caterina. My name is Karsi Göransson." The woman stated.
"You sound awful like a woman for someone whose last name is Göransson."
"My father wanted a son, better to give his daughter a surname than to let his name die." Karsi muttered bitterly. The gate opened slowly and Karsi dismounted and allowed her horse free.
