💌Darcy Harper's POV🦋

"I'm sure you remember everything."

Oh, he did. Darcy sure did. Darcy remembered everything, absolutely everything, and it was a curse. He remembered the regret as those words slipped from his mouth in that moment, and how it had been the time before. And the time before that.

The cold, bitter harshness of the words that rolled off of Kubo's tongue... he couldn't say he blamed him for. Not after what he'd just said.

Not after everything I caused.

"I-"

For a second, Darcy thought he caught remorse in Kubo's tone, in his eyes. Flickering across his features, concentrated into that singular word. Just one syllable, just one referral, just one letter, that said so much, and betrayed so little. But it was enough.

"Shut up. Just- stop talking."

Darcy's lips parted slightly, in that moment, as though he were about to do the opposite. Yet, then, that regret... that reminder of his own hypocrisy, contained in every word that was said, that should have been left unsaid... perhaps he should choose to keep contained. So, there was no snark in him there. Perhaps someone like Miyako would have called Kubo out further, or Idris would prolong the argument if he had the energy.

But Darcy Harper, as much as he hated Kubo Atsushi, did not wish to prolong this conflict. And so with heavy eyes, and dulled features, he merely nodded ever so slightly, merely swallowing any and all words that could have possibly broken through. He didn't want to fight. He just wanted to call him out. He just---

I can't forgive you, if you don't at least acknowledge what you've done.

Yes. That was all there was to it. Of course, right?

And yet that singular word still rung in Darcy's ears, that he knew as surely as the toll of the funeral bell. The funeral which he-

. . .

No, that's not right. It wasn't... that wasn't the case. So why did it feel like it was? Why did it feel like no matter how hard he tried, he could never wash himself free of the blood, the shame, that had never once tainted his hands? He had done nothing wrong. Nothing- nothing of that sort, anyway- nothing-

"I know. I know you don't regret it. But still... I owe you a 'f**k you' for that one, Darcy."

Darcy couldn't help but laugh slightly at that. "Ah. I can't say I blame you... I did lay a hand on you, after all."

I never... acted out. I always just stood there. Why couldn't I just...

It was always what he said. It was never what he did.

"You know, I remember that as surely as if it was yesterday, Kubo." His voice too came out hoarsely. "I thought you were just a timid, stammery kid... someone who could break apart with a single touch."

The thought lingered in the air, with the silence, at the memory.

"I suppose it wasn't that long ago... though. I actually felt bad for you, you know. When Miyako drew on your face that day."

I decided to extend a small kindness. Even if he had done nothing to earn it.

"You had trust issues," he breathed definitively. "So much difficulty trusting people. And... hell, I think you still do." Darcy awkwardly crossed his arm across his chest, rubbing his hand against his side. "You thought every act of kindness, people just did it to gain something out of you. You must have thought that of Lucian too, I imagine."

"Pot meet kettle. Look, D-Darcy, if you can't handle me, if you say I'm rude and entitled for who I am, then screw you too. I h-hate you. I think you're annoying, self-absorbed, and most of all, the most self-righteous POS I've ever met. You pretend to be better than everyone else, when in reality you're just like the rest of us. A stupid kid who does nothing but impede our trials and make a fool of himself."

. . .

Oh. Yeah. He honestly should have seen this coming.

And yet... he didn't even feel angry. Why should Kubo Atsushi's opinion matter to him?

What did he know about what it meant to be a good person?

He was about to respond, when...

"And before you interrupt me, let me finish. I'm not saying... you're wrong. I'm definitely those things, so that's why we we're not meant to be friends. I can't change how I was raised, or the fact that I don't like or want to like any of the people here. It's screwed up, but it's who I am, and it's who you are. And... about Lucian... you're absolutely right. I shouldn't have said any of those things. Even to someone I hate, I shouldn't say any of that. Not to someone who was just trying to be kind to me."

...Who I am, huh.

"You know... Kubo." Darcy slowly crossed his arms, pausing, as he fought to find the words. His brows furrowed slightly, trying to process what was being said... to make sense of it...

"It's not who you are. At least, it doesn't have to be. That's just an excuse," he snapped.

He gritted his teeth, inhaling, seething, begging himself to calm down.

"I know that's rich... coming from... me, of all people," Darcy added hesitantly, his tone softening only slightly. "Ugh. Jeez. I'm starting to sound like him, aren't I? Spouting all that cheesy, idealistic... stuff. But... saying it's just the way you are. That's no good. That's nothing but an excuse."

Just like I...

...

"It is a lot. It's way too much of a lot. And I should've told him that instead of walking away. You're an idiot, Darcy, but to hell with it, I'm worse of one. I've been saying all this stupid stuff. To you, to myself, and most of all, to Lucian."

"Oh, I'M an idiot? I'm not the one..."

Breathe. Just breathe.

"...never mind. I've... said some things I regret, too. I can admit that. But you know, those aren't the only people you've been saying that to. Look, I'm... really not some naive, overly idealistic sap like Lucian is. But you can change, if you try."

"So the moment we get out of this pit... I swear to you, I swear to myself- I'll apologise to him. This doesn't mean I like him, god no, but..."

. . .

This... this is... just like...

"You're right, okay? He didn't deserve that. He didn't deserve any of that."

"Yeah. I know. No sh*t. Of course he didn't."

Okay... just breathe.

"Don't be stupid. It was just a joke, Darcy. God, you take everything too seriously. This is exactly why I just can't stand you."

Darcy went as stiff as a board, his features scrunching up in irritation. "Well, I'm sorry you don't seem like the sort of person to tell a joke. At least not a good one." He raised an eyebrow. "Besides... pot meeting the kettle, am I right?"

Why did his face get so red after that?... Darcy couldn't help but wonder what that was about, but he seemed to care more about the plot than making another KuboCian moment. Go ask the fanfic writers or something.

"Oh, shut up. I don't have to prove myself to you. If you were actually attending those trials instead of being lost in Soy Sauce's eyes, then maybe you'd have had a chance to contribute to my argument."

Darcy immediately puffed up like a porcupine, his cheeks going bright red.

WHAT THE HELL?

"E-Excuse me?! Well, I'm sorry for calling you out on what you told us all to be your specialty!" Darcy turned his nose up, which probably looked bright red too. Sh*t.

"B-Besides... l-look. I tried my best to help out as much as everybody else did. I'm just..."

Just?... right. Just.

"...just... a chocolatier, okay?"

It's not like I've ever been good for much of anything else. It's not like it was ever enough.

"Besides... for crying out loud, I wasn't... ever getting distracted by THAT. I don't... know what you're..."

. . .

"Did you just call them... Soy Sauce?"

Oh, helllllll no.

"Do you... even know them that well?"

(I could have sworn they had like two interactions, a voice whispered in Darcy's brain out of nowhere. It was totally not Dorky's.)

"No. She didn't deserve it. And she was just like me, we came from the same awful place, the same awful people. She was just as screwed up as me, and she didn't deserve it, because..."

Darcy's mouth hung slightly open... as though he was about to say something, again. Yet he wasn't quite sure if he could find the words.

"Darcy... did you know we met at church?"

"Kubo, I-"

"Forget I said that. It doesn't matter."

Darcy shook his head, and looked at him fiercely. "No... tell me about it."

"Yeah. Well, at the very least we've found a door. So we can presumably make our way to a place with better ventilation from here. Or at least a tunnel that we won't find Sandworms in."

Was that... supposed to be some kind of reference? I feel like Sawyer would have understood that. I think it was from one of their favorite books, Doom.

"Puhuhuhu~ Oh no, what are our naughty children doing, my love?"

Darcy immediately visibly paled (which was probably not that visible given just how pale he was to begin with). Nevertheless, he very slowly craned his neck, perspiring visibly, hesitating to turn around... for fear of what he might see...

"I'm not sure, darling! But I think that they've gotten very messy down here in the labyrinth! They must surely be asking for a beautification. Look at all that dust! And oh dear, is little Darcy hurt? We must get that treated up with Buffkuma brand bandaids immediately!"

Darcy started sweating even more.

Lord have mercy...

"Darcy... let's just back away slowly..."

Darcy nodded in agreement with him, almost instantaneously finding himself backing away slowly. Almost automatically. Perhaps he was just too tired to argue. Or maybe Kubo actually had a point.

No, that didn't seem right. He must have been too afraid.

💌Darcy Harper's POV🦋

"Glad you're finally coming around. Maybe ol' K-Kubo Atsushi isn't always the bad guy, huh?"

Darcy narrowed his eyes to slits. His arms very slowly, painstakingly crossed themselves. He let out a huff of annoyance.

Kubo Atsushi isn't always the bad guy?

"That's funny. I seem to recall things a little differently." Darcy bit his lip stiffly, with a sigh. He was trying so hard not to throw hands with Kubo right now, but that seemed a little difficult. Besides, how could he not call him out? If he really wanted to say he wasn't such a bad guy...

Then he should really acknowledge what he did first.

"Kubo I-don't-know-your-middle-name Atsushi. I seem to recall a certain guy telling Lucian to kill himself. Or... did I hallucinate that particular ordeal?"

Hypocrite. Hypocrite. Hypocrite. Hypocrite. Hypocrite.

That singular word flashed through Darcy's head, over, and over, and over, and over again. Crushing him like broken glass under its scornful, unyielding heel.

Because, oh, had he really never wished for something bad to happen to someone else?

The second that the words left his mouth, he longed to take them back. To glaze over them. Something. Anything.

And for a second he swore he thought he saw Mei Akamatsu, standing before him, and not Kubo Atsushi.

She was whole again. Not covered in blood, so, so much blood. Her hands, her body, with that dull, pathetic look in her eyes. Her usual offensive humor, and sharp tongue laced with bitterness, dulled by her lack of energy. She was giving up. So close to giving up.

But then she was whole again. She stood before Darcy again.

And she said all that stupid f--ked up stuff.

About what she did to all those people.

All those people that did and didn't deserve it.

No... wait, that wasn't right. Did deserve it? Did anyone deserve it?

He remembered that particularly dreadful conversation.

Oh, Mei was a sicko. She was absolutely a sicko. How could Darcy trust a single thing she said? Of course he couldn't. She was a liar. A liar, a liar, a liar, a goddamned liar. What did she know about him? What could she possibly know-

That goddamned monster. She deserved what she got. Oh, she deserved it, she deserved the pain, she deserved to die, she deserved to-

No. That- that wasn't right.

Darcy... he- he didn't mean-

He said sorry. HE SAID SORRY. He- he apologized. Surely that meant something?

But Mei had it coming, she'd-

. . .

I didn't mean it. I didn't mean it. I didn't mean it.

Oh, so you didn't mean it? You didn't mean it?

She could almost hear Mei's voice, laced with malice.

That's soooo funny, Darcy. Didn't you say something about how you probably deserved to go to Hell? But, oh. Don't feel too bad about it. I'll be seeing you there, mkay?

Screw you. Screw you. You don't know anything about me. F--K OFF.

I didn't mean to-

I didn't mean to---

Lie to her.

And yet... as it happened...

I thought I'd have everything.

I thought I'd be satisfied.

I thought I'd finally be happy.

Everybody would finally love me.

Everybody would finally see me.

Will and I could finally be together.

Mom would... she would finally be proud of me. She'd care about me.

All I had to do was tell one lie.

One harmless lie.

And those words had slipped out, along with those crocodile tears. They'd worked like a charm.

Oh, it made Darcy sick, just thinking about it.

Yet that moment brought a certain satisfaction, in a way.

Did he regret it?... yes.

It didn't change the fact that it had happened.

It wasn't something a good person would do.

It wasn't something ANY good person should do.

But he didn't have a choice.

Besides, Kubo needed to hear it. Right.

"I don't recall you ever apologizing to him for that," Darcy snapped. Then... he hesitated, slightly. "Look. I'm... willing to let bygones be bygones."

Well, that was a first.

"I just want us all to escape here together. Nothing has to happen to anyone else."

Nothing that YOU caused?

"It's just... you never did apologize to him for that, you know. He very nearly did it. I mean... damn. That was seriously such a d**k move, Kubo. The lowest of the low."

I know I'm one to talk...

"It would already be terrible if you'd told anybody else here that. But goddamn Lucian?! That guy's a fricking saint. He's been trying to help you and everybody else this whole time. I don't regret punching you in the face for that. Not in the least."

Darcy gritted his teeth and let out a breathy sigh.

"...okay. That's- all this has probably succeeded at doing is provoking you. But what I'm trying to say is... you haven't just been super rude and entitled to everybody here. But you nearly made Lucian kill himself over what you said to him. That's... that's a lot."

"Christmas? Ha, I wish. I'd take the mistletoe over the murder any day."

Darcy raised an eyebrow. The... mistletoe? Specifically? He thought he saw something particularly odd, a blush passing Kubo's face as he mentioned something with traditionally romantic connotations. Huhhh...

"Honestly? I'd agree with that. Maybe Monokuma would give us the greatest present of all... letting us escape." Darcy scoffed. "But, uh, jeez. Any particular reason for the mistletoe, Kubo? Do you have the same consistency as a poisonous plant or something? Because that would suit you." And, yet, despite it all... "Or... is it something else?" He couldn't help but say it with a slight smirk.

Okay. I'm not even sure why I said that. I don't even know how to feel about those two being together since Kubo's such a d**k. It must have been a random shipping moment response wired into this by some other entity. Wait... what was I thinking?

"Who knows."

"So... like, you didn't know?" Darcy raised an eyebrow again. "That's a bit odd for the Ultimate Detective."

"It's hope. If we hope, a-anything... anything can happen. That's what K-Kaoru always said, right?"

"Yeah... uh. I guess she did." Kaoru... Darcy felt a bit uneasy hearing about her. She, too, was someone who clung to her faith. Who thought that if she trusted in God, and in structure, then everything would be fine. Darcy couldn't really claim to know her much.

And he also felt a bit guilty about the annoyance that came to mind at the fact Sawyer followed her like a puppy. Sawyer...

I mean, goddamn. Kaoru was dead and in the grave. She had been for probably over 2 years at this point a... few days? A week? Strangely, he couldn't quite recall anymore.

"I'm sorry about that. The fact that... she died," Darcy told him awkwardly. "I mean..."

Yeesh.

Darcy hated this guy. Like... seriously hated this guy. And yet, he wanted to work with him.

"I didn't really know her all that well. But I don't think she deserved it, did she? Kaoru... was important to you. Even if things seemed somewhat complicated. I imagine you must miss her."

Darcy couldn't imagine losing Sawyer. Not again. Not after everything.

"Monokuma and Wifekuma are a terrifying pair. Don't ask questions you don't want the answer to, Darcy. There are some things worse than death."

Oh. Uh. Darcy paled. That was particularly unsettling...

"Is there... anything worse than... Buffkuma?" he asked hesitantly, remembering how he shielded Miyako from that abomination. God. He shuddered at the memory.

"A rope? Well, there should be, but... The rope's not exactly... intact now. I suppose we'll have to find another way out."

Darcy groaned. Hooray, more time with his favorite Ultimate Detective. "It figures... oh, well. Thanks again for coming to get me, I guess."

"And besides, we're already down here. Aren't you curious to find out what lies at the ends of these tunnels? Maybe it's an emergency exit. Could be the easiest p-possible end there is to this killing game."

Huh. Darcy perked up slightly with interest.

"Is that... possible? I don't think the mastermind would make it that convenient, but... alright. Guess we could try."

Yeah. You can always try.

❄️lucian arbred's pov🕊️

Miyako was talking to... Idris of all people? That was interesting. He wondered what she could possibly want with him. Knowing Miyako, he wasn't entirely sure if it would be something good.

Well... he hoped it would be... but. Well. He wasn't going to interfere unless something bad happened. That would be disrespectful.

The young therapist glanced down into the pit, longing for an answer. Would they be back soon? He could only hope. And it made him a little sick thinking about it.

All the worst things happened when you had your back turned.

The moment you closed your eyes, the moment you turned away, you lost everything.

🍭SAWYER LAURENS’S POV📚

Sawyer too could only stare into the darkness. The void beneath them all. And wonder...

What about... was the question. It was difficult to hold onto a single thought. Every time they tried, it would get all muddled up...

The darkness beneath them didn't quite... make much sense...

All they'd ever known was light. So, so much light. So many different lights.

It's funny.

Very funny!

Light is a good thing. Light is always a good thing. Any story will tell you that. Light is about the hero, the good guy. It shines through, and it fixes everything.

It fixes every problem. Every issue.

Especially the ones with your head.

. . .

Sawyer couldn't see. They could never see.

Never remember...

Never recall that day.

No matter how much they tried.

Well! Most of the time, they didn't try.

They'd just smile, and joke around, not think about it...

Think about anything but it.

People were talking. They weren't sure what about.

They weren't sure they cared.

It was probably all meaningless nonsense anyway.

Meaningless noise, like everything else.

Like the things you'd forgotten.

The things that didn't matter.

You'd plead with them to just stop. Stop it. It wouldn't change a thing. It wouldn't change you. It wouldn't change how you--

Were screwed up undeniably, beyond compare. In a way nobody could understand. A way nobody could fix.

You could never come to terms with the reality everyone else did. And in a way, it made you immune to their mockery. You could live in ignorant bliss. Everything was a game to you. You knew nothing but joy. But you could never understand. You could never understand.

SOMEONEFIXMESOMEONEHELPMESOMEONEPLEASEFIXME

someone...

it's hopeless. useless. laughable.

none of it really fits.

I feel like I remember you from somewhere. I feel like I know you! I feel like you were my friend.

Everyone's my friend, I think!! That's right. We're all friends. That's what we all are. Playing a bunch of. Meaningless...

💌Darcy Harper’s POV🦋

"You're asking after everyone else, when you're sitting in a dust pit, next to the guy with the knife?"

Uh… okay. That was actually a really good point. Still, Darcy couldn’t help but ask about it. His hand slowly reached up to cup his face. His breathing felt heavy, and yet the exhales came out ever so lightly. His face was all scraped up, giving little continual pinches of pain, that hurt slightly more as he touched them. So why, when he woke up in this place, could he not help but worry about everyone else?

Perhaps it was the fact they were all in a goddamn Killing Game. That probably had something to do with it. And Darcy couldn’t help but feel like he had been… selfish. Horribly, begrudgingly selfish. Only caring about what happened to him, or to Sawyer, not to anyone else.

“Well… alright. Jeez. Guess you kind of have a point there.” Darcy slowly removed the hand from his face, awkwardly rubbing the back of his head. It was funny, really. That this guy, of all people, had come back to get him. That he had even cared. That was still difficult to wrap his head around.

Maybe I’ve been too cynical of these people… It wasn’t as if he’d known them for very long. Although Kubo was probably one of the more impressionable of them, given that he was such an as*h*le.

"Darcy... don't worry. Everyone's fine. It hasn't changed since you left. We don't even have a trial to attend. And as far as I see it, we won't ever."

“Wait… really? Is it Christmas right now?” Darcy’s eyes widened.

That seemed too good to be true. And Kubo wasn’t the type of person to lie about this sort of thing. Something had to be wrong.

Darcy’s mind lingered on the last word.

Ever.

“What do you mean by…”

How could we never have another trial?

"Everyone's fine, Darcy. And anyway... even if they weren't, I couldn't tell you sh*t. We're in the same pit. For all I know, Monokuma's put Idris in one of those tutus, and Lucian's currently on a killing spree with a lawnmower."

“Oh. Yeah, I guess that’s true.” Darcy cupped his hip with his hand and rolled his eyes, snorting in amusement. “Lucian. On a killing spree. With a lawnmower? I didn’t know you were capable of joking.”

At least, not good ones.

“And… wait. Idris in a TUTU? When did that happen? Was it pink?”

Wait a minute. Why do I…

Oh god, not Idris. Not after-

“So… how are we going to get out of here? Is there a rope or something?” Darcy asked hurriedly. The less he had to think about Idris, and by extension, Mei, the better.

Sofia could sense that something was different in her usual domain. It suddenly felt a bit less... pink. NO! Who dared to disrupt the natural order?!

"KNEEL BEFORE THE THRONE, PEASANT!" she screeched, stamping her foot. "Who dares to defile my grand castle?"

...it was spreading. It was already spreading. She had to deal with this VISITOR before it was too late.

For a dream... this really felt like... nah. That was weird. After all, dreams always felt... somewhat real, until you woke up. But somehow, as Hyeon-jeong explored the place, it almost felt like they were actually walking.

Like they could feel the ground beneath their feet. But that couldn't be right.

It was merely the illusion of a sensation.

💐Dulcie Bouvier's POV🌙

I have no idea what you're talking about. What, exactly, could she be lying about? She frowned, deep in thought, most likely for the very first time.

"But why should people walk me into traffic? That's very kind of you, but I'm not the one being helped to cross the street, you know. I don't need any help."

She frowned even more, a sparkling look of pity in her eyes.

"However... I wouldn't be surprised if you do. Are you okay?"

"I haven't the faintest idea what you're on about. It was simply an observation about your hair. But, alright then!"

"'Dulcie'? Something named Dulcie doesn't belong in my school. It belongs in a cage."

Huh... she was a human, not an animal, the last time she checked. Maybe this girl was a tad bit delusional... Dulcie self-consciously adjusted her skirt. "Oh, is that so? And what's your name then, friend?"

"Why don't you leave the big kids to their fun, and go do- I don't know, whatever it is ugly rats like you do on their days off, besides giving people whatever nasty diseases you're carrying around in that filthy nest of yours."

She frowned. "I'll have you know I participate in a book club twice a week, I visit elderly people in nursing homes, and I volunteer at the local soup kitchen. I hope that answers your question."

Her face blinked rather neutrally, but her brow was furrowed, her eye slightly twitching. Who exactly did this girl think she was? Dulcie immediately found herself feeling through her hair at the person's comment... there was no need to be so rude.

"You know... your hair doesn't look too bad... it's almost human. So lifelike!" she exclaimed cheerfully.

She found herself glancing over at her other fellow to-be rebels... huh, what were they like?

💐Dulcie Bouvier's POV🌙

The speaker announcement echoed in Dulcie's ears, stirring a typically soft smile onto her face. Chosen rebels. She was one of the chosen rebels! She was definitely up for this. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, the flowers were blooming... everything was perfect. She, Dulcie Bouvier, was going to meet so many wonderful people, and become the greatest and bestest of friends with all of them. Dulcie walked with a brisker, more carefree pace than her normal steadiness, and immediately tripped over a tree root.

"Ow!" she cried out, immediately falling over. Dulcie winced, immediately patting the root and apologizing to it. "Oh, dear root, I am so sorry. Are you unharmed?"

...

The root did not respond.

"Okay, good talk! Glad you're alright." Dulcie hummed softly to herself, as she made her way to the auditorium. This was going to go so well. There was literally nothing that could get her down right now. Everything was perfect. Everything was...

As she made her way to her seat, the individual she laid eyes upon (Persephone) popped the pompously colorful celebratory balloons that floated about in her head. Their very presence tore down the imaginary banners from the ceiling, and tore the shreds of confetti into utter nothingness. The butterflies and bluebirds replaced themselves with buzzing flies and cawing vultures. A sinking feeling, like a stone that had just been skipped, took hold of her heart. But she tried not to let it show.

"Hello there... I'm Dulcie Bouvier. And... who might you be?"

Sofia lounged luxuriously in her castle, completely oblivious to the conversation that was being had. One of her servants, the one carrying pizza bagels, approached her and whispered something in her ear.

"What? What is it?" she spat, crossing her arms.

"Your Highness... you have visitors."

She raised an eyebrow at that. "Who?! Is it that whiny brat with the braids again?" Ugh, she was so annoying. She kept whimpering about being cold or something...

"Ah, well... no. Not exactly. A couple of others, in fact."

She was intrigued at this. They better be interesting...

"Ughhh, fiiiine. Send them in."

"As you command, Miss."

🌺Hyeon-jeong Yang's POV 🍃

But as... uh, strangely comforting as it was to lie in that garden, Hyeon-jeong found themself wondering about what lay beyond it. Hopefully there wouldn't be any other morons. He just wanted to be alone.

Still. It was kinda boring just... sitting here. And it was stirring something in them. Something they'd rather... not think about.

Stiffly, they lifted themself off the ground. He reached for his eyepatch, still upon their face. It had still been there last time, as well. It's not like such a thing was even relevant, but... they still found it slightly curious. Almost like it was symbolic or some-

Oh, please. They shouldn't read too deeply into this place... probably.

Place?

That almost implied it wasn't a dream. Which was BS.

Snapping out of their thoughts, Hyeon-jeong wandered, in search of... something beyond this, maybe. And hopefully not someone.

Would REALLY be a shame if they ran into someone else here.

[Personality]
A rather mild, quiet person, who seems to be rather ordinary. She's kind, timid, and what you'd probably call a doormat. It's a mystery what she's even doing at this facility. It's hard to see how she has a rebellious bone in her body. She has done almost nothing of note, playing into what's expected of her her entire life, not making any significant attempt to stand out. The fact she's here is probably the first noteworthy thing she's ever done... Dulcie probably needs this training more than anyone else. If you asked her what she wanted, she'd probably merely respond that she wants to help others. She has practically no sense of identity of her own.

Deep down, she’s searching for an identity. She’s searching for something to fill the empty space that’s been in her chest all this time. When other people are happy, it doesn’t make her feel good like it should. Her whole life she has followed the rules and it’s never made her feel the way she should. So by coming here… she hopes that maybe she can become someone, and maybe, just maybe, be happy for once.

That’s not to say she’s aware of this, however. She’s ditzy and cheerful, trusting other people too much and willing to do anything to win their regard. If somebody promises to love her, she’ll bend over backwards for them just to kiss their feet. Dulcie could probably do with a little more pride, but unfortunately, that’s just not something she values, so she’ll continue to humiliate herself at every turn.

[Description]
A young woman with a rather small, petite frame. She stands at only 5'2", and weighs around 105 pounds. Dulcie wears modest sweaters, blouses, skirts and dresses most of the time, in rather moderate colors. Her hair is straight and only slightly wavy, and a pleasant shade of brown in color. Her eyes are also brown, and her skin is rather pale. Her hair is also rather long, and she typically braids it. Dulcie's bangs are sideswept, contributing further to her plain appearance. She has a small nose and a slight smile. Her accessories tend to include headbands, and occasionally necklaces or bows.

Can control the movement of water within her surroundings.

[Backstory]
Dulcie Bouvier led a rather normal life, for the most part. Her parents were rather conforming people that told her to also conform to the government's expectations, and she agreed. She grew up mostly just listening to the rules, and learning that if she did just what she was told, she would make it in life. She never really thought to do anything else.

As a child, she used to torture small animals and bugs, mostly just because she was curious. Yet her parents told her it was wrong, so she moved on from it, and hasn’t considered acts of violence since. It didn’t really interest her… right?

🌺Hyeon-jeong Yang's POV🍃

Curious... what were the chances of having the same dream twice in a row? They slowly rose from the grass, touching it gently between the fingers. It was so soft, unusually so. There was a vast array of flowers, all blossoming and flourishing. None of them seemed to ache for water, or plead for changes in the soil. Bees buzzed and hummed.

She always took such good care of them, huh?

It was always a place to come back to, where you no longer had to worry about how dull and empty everything was. Just taking in the sights and scents of these beauties.

But... that wasn't what they were here for. Well, wait. Were they here for anything, really?

They slowly got up off the ground. It almost felt real, in a foggy sort of way, like walking through a distant memory.

"Heh. Some dreams are like that, I guess. Hey, Fairyland. That name's still generic as hell, by the way."

Jeez, I'm probably just talking to myself...

But, this was nice. Nothing special, but nice.

His father had forgotten to protect the flowers later that year, after the incident. When the frost occurred... they all died. It was almost like Mom had taken them all with her.

They grimaced. I'm never forgiving that freak for what happened. Never.

It was almost like... she was here again. In a way. Getting to see this.

Were those other kids here again? Ah, come on. Hopefully not. He wasn't even thinking about them!

👑𝒮𝑜𝒻𝒾𝒶 𝐸𝓁𝒾𝓏𝒶𝒷𝑒𝓉𝒽 𝒜𝓇𝒾𝓈𝑜𝓃'𝓈 𝒫𝒪𝒱💖

Sofia had that dream again. She woke up in her gorgeous castle, in a throne with her hair primped up and done, wearing a lovely frilly pink dress that looked like something out of the distant past. Upon her head was a sparkly tiara.

She giggled and clapped her hands together. "Finally! Something worthy of me. I am loving this."

Soon enough, her servants would arrive! Catering to her every whim!

"Princess Sofia! Is there anything that you desire?"

"Hmm... pizza bagels!"

"And, and can I get you anything?"

"AND CUPCAKES! RIGHT NOW."

"Of course, your Highness! Right away."

Third-Person POV

Georgie Gandolfini, an expert at getting to places he was most certainly not welcome in, had already arrived. "Oh! A beauty contest! That sounds amazing!" He jumped up and down, clearly excited despite it literally being the middle of the night.

Abeni Madaki rubbed her eyes and groaned. "Oh, no. Don't tell me... Did I pull another all-nighter? Am I hallucinating? Why am I here..." She turned to see an overly hyperactive... journalist, apparently. Oh no. Was that who she thought it was? And... a man with an obnoxiously eager expression wearing a neon Hawaiian Aloha shirt and bunny slippers. Carrying a rubber chicken. "Aren't you... Mr. Gandolfini? The new middle school teacher?"

He grinned and honked the rubber chicken. "Yep! That's me! The kids there are amazing." (The kids there were not amazing, and one of them had mocked him while another had planted a bomb in his desk, in addition to many of them not even bothering to show up to class. Such adorable little pranksters!) "You're that detective, right?"

"Yes, and... why are you wearing that? Why are you here? Why are we all here?"

"I know about as well as you do! I think I slept in these? Although I don't entirely remember, haha. We're here for a beauty contest where we're judged by the gods!! Aren't you excited?"

Abeni squinted. She was seeing many people here, of numerous ages. This whole arrangement made no sense. The giant screen was blinding her.

She groaned, deciding to just choose to ignore how outlandish this was. She was too tired for this [CENSORED].

"Uhhh... do we have to participate in this? I have work again in the morning."

Mr. Gandolfini shrugged. "No clue! I'm not the gods."

"You're... just going to accept that there-" She took another look at Mr. Gandolfini and cut herself off. Never mind. Why do I even bother?

She tried fishing for a cigarette only to be greeted with a telepathic message.

"No smoking during the non-canon event! Sorry, ma'am."

She immediately cursed under her breath.

Sofia was a big kid. She could handle herself. Eight and a quarter years old was SUPER big.

After the incident with Harry (whose fate I refuse to specify), she was eventually taken home by Loser Whale (as she still insisted on calling him). She was looking forward to learning what her mother was going to give her.

To her dismay To her delight, she spotted a note. It was from her mother.

It read,
"To my dear Sofia,
Got busy again, dear.
I got you this jade necklace.
I know you'll love it.
There's some food for you in the fridge.
- Mommy"

Oh. Right. Again. Well, this happened all the time... She giggled and grinned eagerly as she picked up the necklace. YES! This was hers now! Still...

She was... too busy again.

Oh well.

Normally, she'd ask one of the maids to tuck her into bed, but she was too old for that now. She'd just go herself. After getting herself ready, and undoing her pigtails, she got into bed, closing her eyes.

"Maybe I'll have that dream again. That was fun..."

She was so tired. Maybe it was because of that stupid kid earlier. She was glad she put him in his place.

🌺Hyeon-jeong Yang's POV🍃

Eventually, the slog of a school day was over. It was especially irritating with the overly hyper teacher they had. As usual, they hesitated to go home.

Okayyyy. So it wasn't like they were, afraid of their dad or anything. But he got home as late as he could, on purpose, so they wouldn't have to look at that face.

He was always asking how Hyeon-jeong was doing. If he was alright, if everything was okay at school. But the way he did it... was so robotic and broken. It would remind them all over again, of that exact face his father made... when they'd received the news about... Mom's death.

It was pathetic. Honestly. Ugh, what a pain.

They got home as quietly as possible, sneaking off to their room. Hopefully he wouldn't notice...

Hyeon-jeong got ready for bed, and went off to sleep.

Hopefully, they'd have that dream again. Jeez, that was bonkers. Nothing like what he usually had. But it did make them a little curious. Of what else this 'Fairyland' had in store.

Pssh. What a literal name. He rolled his eyes.

🥳Georgie Gandolfini's POV🌻

Georgie got home after a long day educating his class. He was looking forward to the rest of the year, and all the things he would teach them. He had stayed late at the school that day, preparing homework assignments for everyone once the year had fully begun.

He lived alone, which was unfortunate. He used to have friends who owned a video production company, but unfortunately they moved, and he still wasn't sure why. They were always screaming at him, "MR. GANDOLFINI, LEAVE!"

He played several hands of cards with himself, and got his best friend, a ginger cat named Freckles, a couple of treats, before heading to bed for the night.

It seemed that the kids were a handful, especially that one student. But that was nothing new. It wasn't like anything bad was gonna happen!

He was looking forward to getting to know his students.

🚬Police Detective Abeni Madaki's POV⚰️

Work was rather uneventful. Abeni regretted not just going home early, she had gotten so distracted by her work. One thing had just turned to another, and before you knew it, she was driving home in the middle of the night.

But maybe she'd do some paperwork when she got home... no. She needed her energy for tomorrow. Probably best not to pull another all-nighter.

She'd always been dedicated to her work. Ever since she was young.

She'd never... make a mistake, of any kind.

Never.

Wait...

A flash of confusion came upon Sofia's face, as though she was considering something. But then she realized it. Of course!

HE'S PLAYING DUMB!

"WHY, YOU!!" She grabbed Harry by the collar of his shirt, and then dragged him off to the Art Room, where she took out the finger paints, and poured them over his head. She hit his head with an easel over and over and over again.

"APOLOGIZE!! NOW!" she screamed tyrannically.

Sofia immediately stopped punching. Miraculously, she froze up in indecision for a second. "Ohhhh! So you're Harry!" She smiled dangerously. "I heard sooo much about you! Mostly, that you said that the rich shouldn't rule over the poor..."

She crossed her arms. "Buuuut, since I am a just ruler, I'm giving you one chance. GET ON YOUR KNEES AND I'LL FORGIVE YOU!"

Nope. That's it. This kid threw a hard candy at her. HE DIED TODAY.

"WHY, YOU!!"

She was no longer listening to Loser Whale's protests as she punched the candy child right in the face, and then attempted to continue pummeling him over and over again.

WHO CARED ABOUT THE CAPE? THIS KID WAS GOING DOWN.

🌺Hyeon-jeong Yang's POV🍃

Now Playing: Little Dark Age - MGMT

They blinked and turned to look at Kae, cupping their face with their right hand, long-sleeved elbow on the hard surface of their desk. In their left hand, they held their pen, which they were lazily doodling on the paper with. Just now, they had paused the next inky line to acknowledge his classmate's presence.

"Get a load of this guy, am I right?" he whispered with a smug expression, their eyebrows raised in amusement. "Hopefully this year's not gonna be a total pain."

They didn't understand why the school felt the need to lump all the students together like this... it was weird enough with an abnormally skilled eleven-year-old like him here. Must have had to cut the budget or something. They squinted back at the guy that was apparently their teacher... Yeah, they must have been pretty desperate if this sad sap wasn't a substitute.

They wondered for a moment why they were even speaking to Kae, but shrugged internally. Eh, whatever, they were suuuper bored waiting for class to start. It couldn't hurt. Even if this 'Kae' person was probably just another moron, he didn't know that for sure yet.

🥳Georgie Gandolfini's POV🌻

Now Playing: Walking On Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves

Mr. Gandolfini noted Kae taking her seat, beaming over at her. "Hey! Great job coming in today!" He clapped cheerfully, before checking their name off on the list. "Okay! Hyeon-jeo-"

"Yeah, I'm here. What, do you not have eyes? No wonder you wear those dumb glasses." The student rolled their eyes as they interrupted him.

He flushed in embarrassment at the student's comment.

Oh! Really? I... thought they looked cool. Maybe I should get a new pair...

"What an astute observation, Hyeon-jeong. Glad to see you're full of energy this morning." He shook his head. "That was, a bit rude though, don't you think?"

"Oh. Was it? I'm sooo sorry." He was clearly not the slightest bit sorry at all, to the point even Mr. Gandolfini could tell that. But he wasn't about to start anything. The teacher gave them a thumbs-up.

"Apology accepted! Good to see you're here. Tazuna?"

Awkward silence again. It seemed that child cared far more about sweets than showing up to class on time.

He sighed internally and marked the absence, proceeding to call for Jing Yu.

🚬Abeni Madaki's POV⚰️

Now Playing: Wake Me Up When September Ends - Green Day

Abeni worked her way through her paperwork, her day turning out to be rather uneventful. It seemed that nothing too bad was going on... just the occasional petty robbery report about candy (although she didn't understand why anyone would want most of that stuff), a mysterious mining accident that didn't seem quite like an accident, and then was cleared up to have simply been one... Honestly, it was something of a relief.

Because, if something more was going on, she could expect a lot more casualties. Which was never a good thing, even if she was used to such grim news by now.

She wondered if she should just head home early... she'd have to ask her supervisor. Right after she finished this last batch. It was a little difficult to turn herself away from her work, even when it was especially boring.

"If you say 'sorry', then I'll make you a cape. You can be the queen of all the snotty children here. Doesn't that sound nice? I'll even let you throw crayons at them."

Her eyes grew wide. The idea of that did sound... tempting.

"Is it a good cape? One truly worthy of me?" She narrowed her eyes. Could she trust Loser Whale to follow through?

She gasped in horror, realizing that Loser Whale once again had a point(?!), letting go of the annoying, horrible, dumb teenager's shirt.

Apologize. APOLOGIZE?

"He's the one who refused to share candy with me!" she sputtered indignantly, with an angry grimace. "AND insulted me! He's GOING DOWN!"

Georgie Gandolfini's POV

Mr. Gandolfini pulled out his sweet-scented obnoxiously pink checklist, and began reading out the names to take attendance. "Alright, alright! Let's make sure we're all here. Frederick?"

There was an awkward silence. Hyeon-jeong Yang slowly, robotically rotated to look at the empty seat next to them.

"Alright! So... still not here then. That's okay, Frederick! You're trying your best!" He honked his rubber chicken on his desk with a huge smile, undeterred.

"Okay! Uh, in that case. Evelyn, are you here?"

Hyeon-jeong Yang glanced at the seat behind them, clearly trying so hard not to laugh.

"Okay, uh. That's fine!" Mr. Gandolfini said through a forced smile, glancing around the room. "Kae? Are you here?"

🌺Hyeon-jeong Yang's POV🍃

Man, what a sad turnout! This guy was such a loser. No wonder nobody was showing up. Hyeon-jeong Yang wasn't even sure if they'd get in trouble for laughing or not.

Still, if this class was too easy, it might even be ridiculously boring. He groaned.

A RUBBER CHICKEN? And pink scented paper he could smell from here? What was with this guy?

A CRUSHED LOLLIPOP? How dare this- this stupid-

HAD THE GALL TO- SAY SHE LOOKED LIKE-

She grabbed the small teenager by the collar of their shirt, readying her fist and letting out a low hissing noise. "Apologize! Right now. AND HAND OVER THE CANDY! I'm being very, VERY patient with you!"

"Sofia, I have an idea. What if we went and got candy from your dad's store? You're too rich for poor people's candy, right? You don't really want this boy's peppermints."

Sofia skeptically raised an eyebrow at Loser Whale's protest. Was he... trying to help this kid?

She wasn't about to admit she was wrong but... Loser Whale did raise a surprisingly good point. For a commoner.

"Fine. But only once he says sorry for his comment. I do NOT look like a crushed lollipop."

Oh. Huh. Loser Whale seemed to have disappeared. Where had he gone off to...?

"Ohh. Are we playing Hide And Seek? Okayy! But I'm gonna-"

Wait. No. She had to get the candy. She cleared her mind of thoughts of... whatever that peasant was doing. She turned her attention back to the candy child, squinting angrily.

"So, are you going to share... or not?"

Georgie Gandolfini's (Mr. Gandolfini's) POV

A tall, bulky man made the way into the room with a skip in his step. He beamed and clapped his hands together.

"Good morning, GOOD MORNING! How's everyone doing today?" He glanced about at the students, smiling at each and every one of them. This was going to be a good day!

"Oh, just grand, teach," one of the students snorted with a roll of their eyes. It was Hyeon-jeong Yang, if the descriptions he had been given were to be believed. It was almost a little startling seeing the 11-year-old, given that Hyeon-jeong was a good bit shorter than his peers.

"Great, great!" He was going to choose to ignore the possible mocking in the student's voice. "Now, I'm going to take attendance!" He cheerily pulled out the list.

🌺Hyeon-jeong Yang's POV🍃

Wowwww. What a drag. The teacher was acting so sweet, Hyeon-jeong thought they might throw up at any second.

What was even the point in getting to know any of his classmates, anyways? They were just gonna ace all their classes, get through this... have nothing to do with anyone in this moronic bunch. Hopefully.

They just hoped that "Mr. Gandolfini" over here wasn't gonna drag him into too many group projects or anything. That would suuuck. The worst part is, he definitely seemed like the kind of teacher to do that sort of thing!

Still, it didn't hurt to know your competition so you could crush them later. Hyeon-jeong carefully studied his various classmates.

What kind of last name even is "Gandolfini", anyway? Was one of his grandparents a Lord of the Rings fanatic and the other part of the Italian mafia? Either way, that's just sad.
