I find it really cool that Gaster is only available in secrets, and seems to be based entirely on cut content, because I've always been a sucker for beta content in games.
And yeah, he was the scientist before Alphys. I also read that he was the one that created the Core.

Another, non-spoiler related question: Do you guys think Sans is wearing sneakers or slippers?
