Dawnpelt walked through the entrance tunnel, warmed by the sight of the camp life going on as normal. She sighed as she watched Hawkpool stalk away to the elder's den. Maybe I was too harsh...but nothing good could have come of that, she thought. She padded towards Fallentree and Feathercloud, " You two and Stonetail and Shadepelt are on the mid day patrol, the walls I think are in a fine enough shape for now, " she mewed. " Of course, more defense is never a bad idea, " Dawnpelt added, almost as if a note to herself. " We chased off a fox near Turtle rock, and could not find a den where it may have slept. Watch out for it, either way. I also spotted a rogue cat by the two leg place, so please be alert,"

Sunkit nodded, " Yes! ...well, not until yesterday." she mewed, remembering Bramblekit's words from the other day. "What is it like, to be a medicine cat?" she asked, looking curiously at Tigerstripe.

Dawnpelt walked behind Hawkpool on their way to Desertclan camp, silently. I hope my words reached her. It's better to end things now before it could get complicated..., Dawnpelt thought worrisomely to herself. This situation made things needlessly complicated. She greatly appreciated Pineclan's help and was scared to think of what would have happened had they not stepped in. Now is not the time for forbidden romance, Dawnpelt thought to herself as the camp came into view.

Sunkit placed the poppyflower with the rest, gently putting it on top of another flower. " I always thought I had to be a warrior, but...the fighting scares me, " she said softly, looking down.

Dawnpelt showed no change in expression save for a subtle flick in one ear, " I'm not asking you to stop caring, you know that, " she said, trying to reason with the Pineclan warrior. " But you know that you can't have your loyalty split between you clan and ours. It's against the warrior code, " Dawnpelt got to her paws, taking a step towards Hawkpool. " The Pineclan warriors will leave our clan in a few days from now, perhaps less. " She mewed, " and you and Duskwind will part ways until the next gathering,"

Sunkit looked thoughtful as she listened to Tigerstripe speak. "Where can I put this?" she said, delicately listing the poppy flower in her teeth.

One of Androemda’s ears swiveled back as she heard Kanti enter the snow behind her. She continued walking forward, treading softly. “ Do you hunt much? I’ve always wondered how a fox prefers to hunt, ” she said. In all honesty, Andromeda had little to go on other than instinct. What she did to get by in the city could hardly be referred to as hunting.

Dawnpelt held her gaze on Hawkpool as she listened to Mudfeather's receding paw steps through the bushes. Her whole body was still, save for the tip of her tail that was lightly tapping the ground. " Hawkpool," she said finally, " I think you know what I'm going to talk to you about, " she said evenly. Before Hawkpool could respond, she continued, " Duskwind is foolish, but I get the sense you are smarter than that. You must end whatever it is that is happening between you two,"

Sunkit sniffed each flower curiously, " Does nothing really grow in leaf bare?" she mewed, curious. She had never seen a leaf bare before, and it sounded frightening to her.

Dawnpelt followed their border as it brought them further into the trees, the mountains looming ever closer. The turtle rock would be in sight again before long. Dawnpelt paused, marking a nearby clump of bracken with her scent, and turned to face Mudfeather. “ Mudfeather, you may go up ahead and return to camp. The midday patrol should be waiting to go out. Hawkpool and I will be following shortly,” she meowed.

Sunkit nodded, quickly getting to her feet. She padded up to the flowers, inspecting them. “ what do these do?” She mewed.

Dawnpelt nodded as she watched Hawkpool finish her prey, and leaped gracefully onto the first stepping stone across the river. The water was slightly lower than usual, so the top of the stone was dry. Dawnpelt moved across the rocks to the other side and looked back for the others.

Sunkit sat, wrapping her tiny tail around her paws. " I'm not sure, " She mewed. " I thought, maybe there was something I could help you with," she mewed.

Sunkit tentatively poked her head into the medicine cat’s den, perking up as she saw Tigerstripe. “ Hello!,” She mewed as she padded her way into the den.

Dawnpelt looked over as Hawkpool came near. “ we’ll continue on when you’ve eaten, then cross the river here,” she said, gesturing with her tail to some stones that stuck out of the river slightly up stream.

Sunkit frowned as she watched Bramblekit curl up further into Flowerheart’s fur. She stood up, stretching, and went to stand at the nursery entrance. She could see few a few cats up and about, but not many. With one quick glance over her shoulder, she silently padded out of the nursery and towards the medicine cat’s den. Sunkit has never left the nursery on her own before but felt more risky than normal this morning.

Dawnpelt flicked an ear as she heard Mudfearber speak. “ Oh, thank you,” she said, respectfully eating the fish that her clan mate caught.

Sunkit's eyes slowly opened as a thrush called its song just above the camp. She could feel the remnants of a dream fading away, trying to remember what it was. Flowerheart shifted in her sleep suddenly, distracting Sunkit, washing the rest of the dream away. Yawning, Sunkit reached over a small paw to gently prod her brother from sleep as well.

Dawnpelt watched Mudfeather as she fished, and looked back the way they came. She could see plumes of white smoke rising above the twoleg nests, a common sight as the weather grew colder. Perhaps the rogues will wait until newleaf to bother us again, Dawnpelt thought half heartedly.

Dawnpelt walked along the border, with dry scents of the desert mixing with the sweet ones of the forest. The sound of rushing water broke through the silence as the river came into view. Dawnpelt stood on the river bank, watching the water flow quickly down towards the desert. " If either of you wish to hunt, now is a good time to do so," she mewed to Mudfeather and Hawkpool. Dawnpelt watched the shadowy shapes of fish beneath the river, contemplating whether or not to eat.

Dawnpelt flicked an ear, " The only suitable place was the caves by the river, but they became...unsuitable. " She said, unaware that Duskwind had already shared their clan history with Hawkpool. " Perhaps, sometime in the future, I'll send a patrol out further into the desert, looking for a possible camps. " Dawnpool said with a dreamy tone to her voice. " But, there is no reason to move now. The clan is safe where we are." Dawnpelt got back to her paws, and continued walking along the border.

( Ominous much? lol )

Dawnpelt paused to mark a thorn bush that grew in sandy earth, and paused to look at the desert, the sun well above the horizon now. "I love the forest, but I do miss waking up to that each morning," she mewed.

" No, " Dawnpelt mewed, " It would be unwise to follow one of them alone. We don't know enough about the rogue cats." But I do want to know more..., Dawnpelt pondered as she stared at the spot where the grey cat had perched. Dawnpelt flicked her tail signaling that they continue walking, " We will investigate that place, but with more warriors, and a plan," she mewed to Mudfeather. Dawnpelt lead their patrol further along, finally moving past the two leg place. The air smelled better here, Dawnpelt felt, as the sight of the desert loomed ahead in the distance.

A holly bush brushed Dawnpelt's fur as she walked past it, pacing along through the foliage. Her fur suddenly stood on end, and she felt as if someone was watching her. Dawnpelt froze, flicking her ears, discerning the sounds of the forest from each other. She turned towards the twoleg place, and saw a ragged, grey cat perched on a fence surrounding a twoleg nest. The strange cat's eyes were narrowed as they stared at the Desertclan patrol. A rogue!, Dawnpelt thought, but said nothing, only returning the grey cat's gaze. After a moment, the ragged, grey cat stood up, and leapt down from the fence on the opposite side, out of sight.

Dawnpelt also tried to follow then scent of the fox to a possible den, but the scent didn't appear to lead anywhere. " Well, I'll make sure the next patrol is aware of this, just in case. Let us proceed, " she mewed, and she turned in the direction of the two leg place. That's just what we need - a possible threat of fox along with the rogue cats, Dawnpelt thought to herself. She led her patrol towards the east, the morning sun casting bright rays through the trees. Before long, she could see the two leg nests, their strange straight and orderly walls standing out against a line of trees. Dawnpelt kept to the forest, keeping the twoleg place to her left, and padded through the trees. The scent of the thunder paths wafted to her nose, as she kept all her senses alert.

Duskwind stirred and stretched to his feet, yawning dramatically. The back of warrior's den offered him the respite from the morning sun, but also left him chilled. He stepped out in front of the warrior's den and found a sunbeam that came through the trees and rested their for a moment as he warmed his fur.

Dawnpelt got to her paws, licking down her fur. " We should probably check out where the fox was living, to be sure it was the only one, " She meowed, looking to Mudfeather and Hawkpool, " Let's head back to turtle rock, and investigate." Dawnpelt signaled with her tail as she walked in the direction they had come. Dawnpelt entered the clearing with the rock and scented for the fox.

Dawnpelt watched the fox flip away into the moors, her fur still bristled, until she could see the last of its white tipped tail disappear in the tall grasses. " Thank you Hawkpool, " she said after catching her breath. " That was quick thinking, "

Dawnpelt darted between the mountain and the fox, hissing angrily, her ears flattened to her head. She swatted a its flank, scratching through its fur. " Herd it in the right direction! " she yowled to her patrol.
