In PokeHeroes, I realised that many users post external links, either on their profiles, the forums or as part of their signatures. For security reasons (i.e. prevention against malicious links), there should be a pop-up warning users when they leave the PH site to visit the external link.

This has been implemented in many other MMO sites so I believe we should do it here as well.

What does the community think?

EDIT: This can made rolled out as an option under Settings, as it might be annoying/useless for some users.

Support since some links might lead to virus.

No support.
If you're that concerned about viruses, you probably have an anti-virus installed on your device, which automatically blocks 'unsafe' sites.

Won't you think it's important since not everyone might be aware that external links may contain viruses or that not everyone has an anti-virus installed?

Honestly, I support. Sure, there is some antivirus, but free ones are crap, and I am poor.

And as I said in another thread, on my phone I can't hover and see where a link leads. This has lead to me trying to be helpful "Pls interact with my pokemans" and ending up on a site like IPEEDALITTLE or a screamer site.

And honestly, I'd rather be warned.

If you can read this, you know how to read.

Support. This would save people from screamers that may be posted, and websites that may contain malicious entities, etc.

As for virus protection programs, those cannot save you from having to click through all the garbage on Ipeedalittle or save you from hearing the insanely loud screams on screamer sites. They also cannot save you from pop ups of which you cannot close at all, and those do exist to troll people and etc, and the only way to close them is to pretty much forcefully restart your entire computer.

Virus protection programs do in-fact protect you from viruses but they can't always be 100% accurate 100% of the time and stuff can be skipped over and missed with them from time to time, unless you scan regularly, and you should, then stuff can still infect your pc even if you think your virus protection software has you 100% safe.

I have indeed done scans before and found trojans and what not on my PC that my virus protection program never warned me about at all.

Also, Dakar, I do believe not all anti-virus programs block all un-safe websites just like that, that is just is not how is works for the most part, there still can be slip ups and those can lead to you obtaining viruses unknowingly and nobody wants that.

I think this would be a nice thing to have, honestly.
I know that my computer's firewall is faulty, why just earlier I had a warning saying my computer is infected.. besides the point

I know that Flight Rising has this.

My dad is always telling me to be careful as to what I click because a link may take me to a virus infested website. If something were to stop me from viewing a page before i actually went to it, I think it might be a bit more safe. Then I wouldn't have to worry as much about clicking links as much.

Like Nessy said, some people post things that have nothing to do with what they actually lead you to. If you could just see what the page you were going to before you go to it was, it'd be a bit more helpful with safety and such.

Erm
Yodel

Quote from Yahoo Answers...but you are not downloading anything infected straight to the console so there is no need for an antivirus...

Also, there are many good mobile antiviruses, both for Android and iOS.

Dakar, you do not necessarily need to download anything on any un-safe virus ridden website or such at all to obtain a virus or etc, I am not sure how common viruses are to obtain on home consoles and such but I am sure they can mess with them one way or another but don't quote me on this, I am no expert. also, as for the mobile anti-virus apps, sure there are some but as the regular PC anti-virus programs they can still slip up and are certainly not perfect.

Well, all malware is actually downloaded- either into your browser's cache or by disguising itself as software. Also, of course they can slip up- I myself have tried creating a virus that would get past an antivirus's defense- but they're still your best bet.

That aside, considering the fact that flaws EXIST, I'd say I support if this was an option, as mojoryan said. I honestly don't mind viruses on my computer, and I sometimes voluntarily visit 'unsafe' sites, so yeah.

Wait a moment, you don't mind having viruses on your computer? you sometimes voluntarily visit Quote on Quote unsafe websites on purpose? I hope you realize that in some cases viruses and etc can lead to identity theft and etc. I hope you aren't being serious.

And you have tried creating a virus that can get past anti-virus programs? I don't know man, did you succeed? Cos if you did you would only be proving that they are in-fact not perfect and can slip up and screw up, further proving the fact that this should be implemented. Even if you did not succeed I do believe that my argument still stands pretty tall at this point.

EDIT: heck, some viruses can even render your PC useless, mostly only in serious cases but it can still happen.

Support.

Despite having an anti-virus thing on my laptop, last year all internet browsers were rendered useless because I had somehow obtained a virus that caused several pop-ups to come up every time I clicked something, even if it was just changing tabs. This even got passed my pop up blocker.

I don't know how I got this, probably from clicking on a malicious site.

So much support.

Complete support if it is optional. It would be great, specially for device in which you can't hover over the link, but I also find them really annoying, even more if I'm 100% sure of where the link leads.
Maybe a filter that makes the pop up come up if is not x, y or z page?

I fully agree with that, as I keep finding those "iwantyoursoul" thingies. I think that's rude, (opinions, kids, opinions!) as long as there are young heroes here who might believe in those easy clickable likes like "click for 10000000 PD" or "click for infinite nuggets"

Anyone else has any more opinions on this? I'm bumping this after about 3 weeks because I really feel computer security is highly important even when we play online games like PH
