Quick Silver pushed Zuzu off of himself, panting. "Hey, no-" he gasped a little for air. "Owch. My lungs-"

Suddenly, something jabbed into his shoulder. He gave a cry of pain-

Mouse was standing up, his legs shaking. One hand covered his bare, hooded face, the other clutched a row of throwing knives. Another flicked up in his hand- he took aim at Quick Silver's heart, good and true, despite his trembling, jerking arms.

Just before it connected, Quick Silver's hand flew to his shirt-

And in a whirl of silver, a thin plate was formed.

It richoted off.

Mouse's jerky hands loosened around the knives.

Quick Silver lifted up the weapon, prepared to throw it right back- At the villain-

But then, just like that, Mouse vanished.

"What-?" He gasped.

But his vision was blurring. He couldn't see. What was happening?

It felt like... all of his energy was sucked out of his body.

He slumped to the ground, defeated.

Woodlice crawled over his eyes, eating them, tearing them out, blocking out all light and hope. He struggled to see past the squirming brown bodies-

He saw a shattered mask being lifted by a pale hand. One so small, so delicate, it almost certainly couldn't have belonged to the same foe.

And then everything went black.

"What?!" He jolted upwards and glanced wildly about himself. His eyes landed on Zuzu. "Where-" A sharp sensation in his palm. He winced and lifted it-

There was a piece of porcelain stabbed into the center.

"Oh." He paused a moment. "I think... I mighta done that... but it's probably a part of that guy's mask, right?" He tilted his head to the side and nearly fell over. "Ow- How're you up? My head's killing me."

He pushed himself upwards, craning his head to look at Zuzu. "You look nice," he mumbled, half to himself. Then he staggered to his feet, swinging his arms out for balance. "Woah- oh, okay... okay..." He relaxed.

"Thanks." He gave Zuzu an appreciative shoulder bump as he caught up. "'Preciate it." He slipped the piece of mask on his shirt, which molded over it as he did so. "So, what do we tell 'em, you think?"

Quick Silver paused midstep. Though Zuzu couldn't see it, his face was twitching slightly, trying to hide his disbelief. "Uh... well, you know, considering the fact that we let a wanted criminal escape in our own territory... for the second time in a night... Right after getting in trouble for letting said criminal escape... Uhh... Nudge nudge? Nudge nudge?"

He crossed his arms. "Okay, sorry for the sarcasm, but seriously, we cannot tell them we failed again." He paused. "That is, unless you want us to say goodbye to our hero licenses..."
