Just a quick question, if you put two ditto (or dittos, whatever the plural is) in the daycare, will you get another ditto out in an egg? It probably wont work, or people would be putting ditto (or dittos) out on the market a lot more.

As you said yes it won't work.
Only Certain Pokémon's and Other Male / Female Pokémon's work with Ditto.

Just to clarify in case, as Kinishaka has said, ditto cannot breed with itself. You can use it to breed with female, male or gender neutral but it cannot breed with itself or any legendaries (other than those given to you by the professor - if you can get the legend again via the same method, chances are, it can't be bred).
