This happened to a user who hasn't been on in 10 months? I thought that the Index page only shows users who have interacted with those on the front page and have an egg? was this person just literally lucky enough to have this happen because of the SCE hatching everything?

I think that's what happened, yeah ^^'
There are/were no 'recent' eggs anymore, so it simply showed any egg it could find.
