That only happened to me trying to make a mega stone. The other stones worked just well.
While I was clicking the right (or wrong) gems suddenly the cauldron just vanished and I didn't know which gem I should use for the next step. Even when I found out the right gem the cauldron just was....gone

With the Gem Cauldron upgrade, this bug is no longer relevant.
