I like the idea. It would be very nice to have a couple site exclusive pokemon.

My idea for the custom sprites, perhaps it shouldn't be a requirement for the pokedex. I think that there could be a new section on the Events page, with the wonder cards. After you collect a certain amount of wonder cards for custom sprites (like every 10 custom sprites), Professor Birch could give you a small reward (like some pokedollar or a small nugget or something like that).

I also think, if the idea is accepted, the users should get a chance to suggest Event/Custom Sprites. But it shouldn't be here on the forums. How about the users can PM the mod/admin whoever is in charge of implementing them with their idea? Or we could use a form where you can submit them. Either way already sprited (might be redone though) or with a detailed description.

Maybe we could have restrictions too, like you have to be at level __ before you can submit custom sprites?

I disagree with the level restriction, only because it took me AGES to unlock on PokéFarm and I don't want it to end up like that here.
However, I like the idea of custom sprites, and I agree that there should be some like that here.
As for egg images, I'm making ones for Kanto right now! If this is accepted, I'd be glad to let the site use them!
I am trying to keep them simple, and not way too unique, so that it's somewhat challenging to figure out what they are. As an example, here is one of them:

I won't say what it is, in case that makes it into a spoiler, but you can probably tell relatively easily.

I would be more than happy to sprite Pokemon events, but I may only be able to do Eevee, it's evolutions, and most of the Unovan Pokemon.

First of all, I said somewhat challenging, as some of them will be easier to recognize than others (this being one of the easier to recognize) and obviously it's hard to make an unrecognizable egg that resembles its hatchling at all, which is kind of the point of not having the default egg sprite.
Secondly, the way you phrased that was pretty rude, especially because, although it's true that this particular egg is easily recognizable, anything less obvious would be impossible to recognize (literally the only features that make it recognizable are the colors and the spots, and if you took away either one of those, you'd be left with "it's a greenish-teal" or "it has spots.")
I would also like to point out that none of your criticism is constructive. How would YOU make the egg less obvious? How would YOU make a spooky-looking Halloween event that doesn't scare people? These things can help someone improve, while simply shooting things down accomplishes nothing.

I can't tell what the egg is for & i've played pokemon awhile and the only thing i could think of for it i don't think it could be, so say it obvious makes me feel bad & that i should recognize it.

I really agree with the sprites idea. Maybe, it's just an idea from me, make an event on the site, like "Custom Egg Contest". From week to week, the pokemon change, for example on week one, it's Bulbasaur Egg. Users submit their egg sprites, and then on the end of the week, the administrator judge, which one is the best, and the winner receive something special, like PokeDollars or maybe a special pokemon.

Lava, I like your sprite~
Well, like umbreon says is true, it's quite obvious, but still acceptable. I'm thinking of the basic egg sprite, just recolored with the pokemon it resembles, but we keep the green spots, and recolor it too. So, it's not very recognizable.
Find me on PokeFarm~ I'm Carame1 6ir1 there.
And, you can call me Lyth. ^^

I'm all for custom sprites for events and eggs. If spriters are needed I'm sure no one would say no if the people in the sprite threads were asked. 030

As for events, I know Vdexproject does its own events when they can. I ADORE their events too. Their owner does rainbow pokemon for certain times of the year, they just finished a zodiac set that took the entire year to complete, and they do other really cool sprites for their site.

If there was an event department made up of people for contest ideas, event ideas, and sprite ideas, I think we could all come up with some fabulous events (Themed writing, gift giving events, birthday events, varied worldwide-related things) that are perfectly unique and original. They don't have to be monthly, but a monthly... thing might not be a bad idea. Like an egg hunt, and the person to get those eggs gets a unique pokemon and a special reward, like 5 small nuggets or something.

Ah.. there goes my rambling again. @_@; Sorry!

Oooh, what if we did event trainers? Every month a new trainer avatar would be available for free, and a birthday trainer for the month you were born in... /getting ideas, must stop

...Yup. Once I get back from my interview today I think I'm going to have to do prototypes for birthday trainers.

I support the idea that the community can compete and submit Sprites, but I'm afraid that there will be a ton of Sprites submitted. And I know because of the Spriters section that some users WILL submit a ton of lower quality Sprites.

Anyway, before a submission system is created, we need to have rules for submission. Size of the image, what we are looking for, what we don't want etc.

Custom Trainers would be cool. Maybe some default Trainers available in an Avatar gallery to start with.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I know half my trainers are like that because someone ordered twenty or so and never came back, so they're up for grabs, and I've done tons of recolors of other sprites I edited for people who wanted the same thing but in different colors. Some basic trainers for the avatars would be cool.

I believe there'd have to be tons of rules for sprite submission. I think a small team (4-5 people) of spriters to work on trainers and eggs first wouldn't be the worst idea in the world if things like that are approved. The team could start off with little events and after some have been established, maybe open the events to custom sprites, not every time, maybe once or twice a year, choose 2-3 pokemon to release for a week.. /acks, stops again

I really need to stop rambling.

@Faerhlsm: I like the birthday trainer idea. Do you think they might look nice if they were colored based on birth stones?
@redapple777 and EmeraldLyth: Thanks for complimenting it and (in redapple777's case) proving that it isn't ridiculously obvious.

Riako mentioned that he's far too busy with things to look for spriters atm. but once things turn around a bit then he'll look forward to having spriters.\r\n\r\nRules I thought of:\r\n\r\n-At most 80x80 pixels big\r\n-Base Pokemon must be visible and not needed to be pointed out\r\n-NO SIMPLE RECOLORS. Especially those with painful colors to the eyes, like neon yellow and pink.\r\n-Transparent backgrounds will be helpful\r\n-PNG or GIF files only. JPG makes the sprite all fuzzy, and hard to clean up.\r\n-No innapropriate sprites (like blood+gore, sexual themes, etc. For example, zombie pokemon, and the other side of NSFW.) That kind of stuff will get a player permanently banned from submitting sprites.\r\n-Themed sprites can be more or less accepted during their respective holidays, if the sprite if of good condition (For example, A President Lincoln Blaziken would be more accepted around President's day, rather than Christmas or any other holiday.)\r\n-If any spriter sees any copyrighted work (For example, Headless Lucario from Pokefarm, Flaming Zoroark from GPX+, and Troll!Mew from VDex Project), that person who submitted the sprite will be temporarily banned from submission. Repeated offences will result in a permanent ban from submission.\r\n\r\nHey, I ramble too, Faerhlsm.

I make a Mightyena sprite just now. Tell me what you think.

I forgot to fix the mouth, I need to fix the outlines in some parts, and I think the disk could be better, but overall I think it turned out pretty good. It's 96 x 96 pixels, but I can resize it if needed once I fix a few things. I got the idea for it when Umbreon requested an Okami version of Lucario.

Yup. I was going to do Ninetales, but I figured Mightyena was a better choice. Thanks for the idea, by the way. :3
