Yesssss! What a fantastic thread! : D

My absolute favorite band would be Lordi. They're basically a Finnish hard rock/heavy metal band that dresses up as monsters. They're pretty much melodic metal. Blood Red Sandman is my favorite song from them and my favorite song of all time. (The song I linked is the official music video so there's obviously monsters in there and people dying as that is their thing. It's not bad at all compared to few of their newer music videos but I figured I'd give you a heads up. :p)
My 11-year-old self fell in love with this band when they won the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2006 with the song Hard Rock Hallelujah and my love has never wavered during all these years. Monsters and metal, how can you not love that?

Another band I absolutely love is Sabaton. They're a speed/power metal band from Sweden and their songs are about different wars and conflicts. A really awesome way to learn some history if you ask me. Sabaton is also a very great band to see live and I was on one of their gigs on March. I got to bring Hannes' (the drummer's) sweaty towel home. :p
I've never been able to pick just one song as my favorite from them, it's simply impossible with this band but White Death sure is one of the more epic ones.

Those are the two that clearly stand out from the rest of the bands I like but here's few others that I feel deserve to be mentioned:

Battle Beast: A Finnish power metal band. One of my favorite songs from them is Out Of Control. I actually found out about these guys when Sabaton made a cover of that song so it has a very special place in my heart.

In Flames: Melodic death metal band from Sweden. My favorite song from them would be Fear Is The Weakness.

Winterstorm: A German power/folk metal band. When it comes to a favorite song I'll just have to pick Stronger. What I really love about this band is the intros they have for their albums, they really set the mood and they're so powerful. Simply brilliant. This is the intro from their first album 'A Coming Storm'. You'll know what I mean if you listen it. Sheesh, I always get goosebumps at "The force of the Winterstorm".

Stormwarrior: Another German band, speed/power metal this time. I really love Heading Northe from them. It makes me think of Finland and fills me with all kinds of emotions even though the song is about Vikings and that has very little to do with Finland. I guess 'north' and 'home' is enough for me. xD

Lastly, I discovered a band named Elvenking few days ago and I've been going through their material recently and I can feel I'll be in love with these guys in no time as well. I didn't look it up before now but it seems like these guys are from Italy and folk/power/symphonic metal when it comes to genre. Black Roses For The Wicked One is the song that got me to start listening to their music.

That's certainly not all the metal bands I like and listen to but my post is already getting kind of long with lots of links to songs already so I'm going to stop myself here. I think that's the most important ones either way.
Also, I never realized it before but I seem to be a power metal guy. :,D

I'm sorry if there's way too much stuff to take in in my post but I don't have many metal buddies so I don't get to talk about this stuff often. I guess I just got excited and out of control. Eh? Eh? That was clever right? xP

Anyway. So how about you C5aw? Do you have any favorite metal bands or songs? :]

Can I just come here to say, if you like metal, you should definitely play the game Brütal Legend.

Through the woods a girl came sadly.
Something broken in her chest.
She had dared to love another.
Alas, no better than the rest.
Up my path the girl came gladly.
Something opened up my doors.
I longed to stop her bleeding heart.
And so I called her to my shores.
Those you trust will hurt you badly.
Something now I'm sure you see.
So drown your tears in me my dear.
As you drown, my dear, in me.

That's a lot of information/inspiration right here x3 I heard about Brütal Legend yeah xD gotta check out on what systems I could try it.

To the music - I'm currently a total Periphery-Fan, they play progressive metal featuring up to 8 strings guitars. My favourite songs are "Stranger Things" and "Ow my Feelings!", they just throw me back in time :D
I really like the german band Rammstein too, dark lyrics but I adore the singers voice. "Amour" is great.
Well I used to listen to Bullet for my Valentine, Slipknot and my Chemical Romance... Sometimes tuning in still but rare.
My guilty pleasure is Korn xD ask anyone, none of my friends likes it xD but I just like the uncommon sound. Tastes. Since I own all their albums I couldn't name any favourite song, to many. :D

Yea summoned up I'm sad that this art, metal, is declining while the new music playing on the radio all the time gains more and more success.
Sucks in my opinion.

I love the finish/swedish medieval sound, but still only heard it from games SKYRIM, maybe I fall in love with one of your bands ^^ kinda interesting to me xD checking it out. I'm always on my neverending quest on finding new bands and songs to kill my MP3-Player with :D

Ooh yes!

Well, I'll list the ones I listen to:

~ Issues Issues has a mix of metal, R&B vocals/normal clean vocals, and electronic music mix. My favorite songs have to be between the following: Life of a Nine, Sad Ghost, The Settlement, The Langdon House, Personality Cult, Stingray Affliction
~ Bring Me the Horizon Please, don't get me started. All of their songs are perfect. Some of my personal favorites are: It Never Ends, Can You Feel My Heart, Crucify Me, Chelsea Smile, Diamonds Aren't Forever
~ Of Mice & Men Favorites: Ohioisonfire, Product of a Murderer, O.G. Loko
~ Chelsea Grin Clockwork, Recreant, Playing With Fire, Pledge Allegiance, Morté Ætérna
~ Whitechapel This is Exile, Eternal Refuge
~ Suicide Silence I love them also <3 Favorites: Slaves to Substance, Smoke, No Pity for a Coward, Genocide, Cease to Exist
~ Rammstein Du Hast, Reise Reise, Stein um Stein
~ The Devil Wears Prada HTML Rulez D00d Name has nothing to do with the song :'D
~ Miss May I Masses of a Dying Breed, Gone, Hero With No Name
~ Architects Naysayer, Gravedigger
~ blessthefall Some good ones are: Youngbloods, Déjà Vu, You Wear a Crown but You're No King

And another worthy mention is Slipknot: Wait and Bleed.

Mine's uh, more of the "modern", uh, screaming stuff xD Yeah except Rammstein, with a tinge of Deathcore also.

Whoo, what a neat thread.

I'm a fan of melodic death metal. Think Mastodon and Opeth. I love DevilDriver, and Otep has gotta be my fav forever.

Oh, and of course, all the old school stuff. I cut my teeth on Metallica and Black Sabbath will always be my favorite jam band.

Oh, and btw, Korn is my guilty pleasure, too. >.> I may or may not also have a crush on Jon Davis. Gotta say, though, their newest stuff is not quite my taste. I miss the old shuggy bass. <3

Annisokay - They're a German metal band, they have two albums and an EP and their stage presence is fantastic! Wolves in The Walls is brilliant and by far my favourite song by them.

Maximum The Hormone - A Japanese metal band who performed the one intros and outros for Death Note, they blend styles pretty much effortlessly. What's Up People? is one of their best songs.

Dir En Grey - Another Japanese Metal band, I saw them at a festival in 2013 and they were by far the best act there. Their music videos are disturbing to say the least but when the lyrics are translated into English (or your native language) they're quite powerful.

Cradle Of Filth - A British metal band, they err on the symphonic side of metal and mix soft feminine vocals with the vocalists harsh screams. Their best song in my opinion is Frost On Her Pillow.
At the bottom of the ocean
When there is nothing left to take away
When there is nothing more to add
When there is nothing but decay
Carry me away
Like driftwood to the sea - Carry Me Away, Annisokay
