After mentioning this to someone, they informed me that Dodrio and Tangela are in entirely different egg groups, and therefore should be considered incompatible for breeding. Neither Pokemon are holding any items.

While I still have them in there, this could mean one of two things:

1. They will produce no eggs even though the Daycare states they are compatible; or
2. They will produce eggs even though they technically shouldn't be compatible.

Once again, two Pokemon that aren't in the same egg group that the Daycare says are compatible. This leads me to assume Dodrio has a wrong egg group listed somewhere...

At least Dodrio. There should be the staff checking if the PH egg Groups are as the original Pokemon ones.

Dodrio breeding with a non-Flying Egg Group, gives the expected 'Prefer to play with other pokémon' message.
