It seemed as though day had turned to night when the clouds pushed their way over the sun, and a thick fog had rolled over the surface of the water. Angel gasped and lunged to Sebastian's side to try and help pull Baracuda off of him. "Stop it! Cuda! Snap out of it!"

"No! We need it! We have to have it! You took too much! Greedy! Selfish! Cruel! Give it back!" Baracuda roared, his skin and scales turning a sickly greenish yellow, like a bruise. "You will pay with your lives!"

Sebastian lashed out, hitting Baracuda a few times in the stomach before grabbing his arms and pulling them behind his back. "What's going on? Who is we? Who has you, Cuda?"

Angel moved in front of Cuda, her eyes on his skin then focused in on his eyes. She reached out to heal him and suddenly froze before ripping her hands back as though she were hurt. Her powers had done nothing to fix the color, but she could feel something. She let out her wings and held them around her as though to comfort herself. "Wh-what did he do?" She said sadly, her eyes on Cuda's.

Cuda stopped struggling and glared murder at Angel. The ghosts inside of him took in her wings, debating. His voice changed in pitch as they squabbled inside of him. A couple spirits said to kill the three and take the box while the others wanted to hear Angel out. Finally the leader took up control once more. "He stole that acursed treasure and she changed him! He'll kill everyone! Give us the heart! Only we can protect him! Give us the heart!"

Sebastian frowned, holding onto Cuda still. "Angel, what's going on?"

"And we almost fell prey to the same greed..." Angel gasped as she turned and pulled the box out from under the seat and looked back to Cuda. "But you must give us our friend back. We will bring it back, but we must have our friend." She wasn't ignoring Sebastian's question, but she was more focused on the task at hand.

Sebastian watched, his black eyes growing bigger as the chest was brought out. He dropped Baracuda's arm and moved as if to help Angel with it. "I'll put it back," he told her, his thoughts seemingly cut off.

"NO!" Baracuda screamed, attacking Sebastain. "You can't have it! It's ours! You'll kill us all! Captain! Leave it be!"

Angel turned to look at Sebastian and her eyes widened. She used her wings to lift herself off of the boat, but the realization came too late. The box still in hand.

Snarling, Sebastian shoved away his friend and jumped for Angel, snagging her foot. "Give it back, woman! I will kill you all! Give me back my power!" He roared, looking like he may just start foaming at the mouth.

Baracuda, shaking himself off and climbing to his feet, screamed a challenge back at Sebastian, ready to jump on him again.

Angel shrieked and flew with all her strength straight up, pulling Sebastian with her. "Sebastian!" "You are not the man I know and love! Give him back to me! Get out of him!" She screamed across their bond and across the waters.

Sebastian screamed, clutching at his head. ANGEL! Run! he managed to scream down the bond as Baracuda snatched him back from Angel's foot. The spirits possessing him lent Baracuda strength to keep Sebastian off of her.

"Go now! Return it!" Baracuda screamed.

Angel dove into the water, her wings getting soaked before they retreated into their tattoos and she got her fins. She swam as fast as she could down and back to where she knew the ship to be. If she could get it back then Sebastian would be okay. The thought never entered her mind that she had left her spear on the ship. Stay with me Sebastian! Fight him!

Sebastian struggled, mentally fighting against the possession while his physical form battled Baracuda. But they had grown up together and were evenly matched.

Angel swam with as much speed as she could. She stuttered in her swimming pattern as she felt something in the box. It didn't feel right. It felt hurt. She swore she could almost hear something from within the box and all around her whispering to her. Her wings were starting to push against her skin so much so that the skin on her back was starting to bulge. She had never had this problem controlling her wings like that. The spirit that had taken over Baracuda had said to return the crate, but every instinct she had, and the whispers were telling her something else. She jolted to a stop there in the water as her wings burst from their place and caught the water like a parachute. Was that her wings glowing? "You know what you must do..." "Nana? I-is that you?" She must be going insane! "Yes my little Angel, it's me." As she heard this she looked all around her and there in the distance she could see her... The smiling, warm, happy face of her grandmother, and beside her, her grandfather's face appeared as well. "You always did know just how to help people... And just what to say too... Those people need your help Angel... If you put that back, they'll simply be waiting for the next person to stumble upon that box... "B-but, I don't know w-" "Trust yourself Angel, you know what to do... We believe in you... With those last words the vision faded and Angel was left suspended there, a shining beacon of light. She ripped open the box and found inside a heart. A beating heart. It was black. Black as the darkest shadow in Hell. She reached in and carefully pulled it out, the box and lid discarded sunk out of view. She could feel the pain and suffering that surrounded the organ. The souls of the entire crew and the captain himself seemed to be stuck within. She just needed to know what to do.

Watch out! Sebastian feebly called out to the love of his life. The ghost of the captain had him all but shut out. But he wouldn't stop fighting. He had to save Angel from this! Chuckling, the captain knocked out Baracuda, leaving him and the crew to sink to the bottom of the ocean. Thankfully, it wasn't too deep there. Then he turned and bolted for Angel. Seeing that black, withered heart, he roared. It would be his! Putting on a burst of speed, he nearly ran into Angel. Sebastian yanked back at the last second, keeping him from hurting her. "Foolish boy! I will have my heart and this wench! It is all mine! Mine!" He screamed, black, inkish waters billowing out from Sebastian's form to show the Captain. His form was bigger then he had been in life and the ghoulish form trapped Sebastian's body in the center. Gnashing his horrible teeth in Angel's face, he held out his hand. "Give me the heart, girl. And I will let you both live as my pets. Refuse and I will bash his brains out on the rocks and make you watch as the sharks eat him. Do you understand?" The captain asked.

Angel's expression did not waiver as she smiled kindly at the captain. "You lost your heart didn't you, you poor man... You poisoned the only heart you had been given... You and your greed..." The waters around them swirled with light and the heart in her hands began to glow as well. Hold on Sebastian! She didn't wait for the captain to react before she poured all of her focus and power into the heart. The black of the heart began to leech out as the intensity of the light grew to a blinding level.

"Wh-what are you doing?...I can't- Stop! Stop, it hurts!" The captain cried out, trying to jerk away. He crumpled in on himself, roaring in pain and thrashing. "Stop! Cut it out!" Sebastian, meanwhile, jerked and thrashed, trying to slip out.

Angel could feel the heart getting lighter in her hands, but with her eyes closed she couldn't see the darkness seeping out of the beating organ. Several moments later she had to let out the breath she'd been holding and as she did she opened her eyes, the water around them still glowing and swirling, but the heart in her hands had been healed. She could almost hear her grandparents praising her. She looked around them and found to her amazement, the spirits of the crew, as they once were, and they all seemed to be smiling.

Sebastian groaned, holding his head in his hands. He sank slowly towards the ocean floor while the captain, now free of his curse, watched in mortified terror. He was happy to be free and back to normal but everything that had happened came flooding back.

Angel darted down to grab Sebastian, her power flowing over him as she held him. The gentle warmth spreading throughout his entire body. "You are free now, and have all of eternity to mend yourself and your wronged crew. What happened wasn't just you... It seemed like there was a power that had put itself in your heart, so not everything is entirely your fault. However, for evil to take such a deep root, there has to be something for it to attach to."

Sebastian weakly wrapped his arms around her, retaining their tails instinctively. "Angel...safe...I have to...protect you...keep you...safe," he mumbled.

"I...I will do better...I was confused and...I am so, so sorry," the captain cried, looking over his crew with big, sad eyes.
