Bumping this for reasons stated by CarpetMonster in his post.

The inaccuracies of the sprite are obvious, besides just looking weird. When I first saw it I didn't even know it was mega Gyarados.

Well, sadly, Riako said that he will NOT change even with the free better (nottryingtosoundrudebutreally) sprites out there.

Oh really he said that? o.o Well that's a pity I guess, the current sprite really could be improved for its inaccuracies as much as for aesthetical purposes
