Welp, I think I got it ~ it doesn't give you pieces from a puzzle from specific activities. It's a random puzzle. I'm gonna change duh thingies a little bit more.

Based on my experiences...each section of the site that rewards puzzle pieces seems to only reward puzzle pieces from specific puzzles. Example:
Show hidden content
I've played a lot of Hangman, and as such, have amassed a large number of puzzle pieces from the last 2 puzzles alone and I've only noticed those two puzzles getting pieces through Game Center activities.

I can also confirm, that the pieces are not random. I got all pieces for one puzzle for giving my Furfous haircuts. Since this puzzle is complete, I seem to not get anymore pieces from this activity.
