I got my hands on a few Ultra Saddles and want to use them to find Ultra Beasts. I know they will be consumed after completing the quest.
Now, on the Wiki it is stated that you have to defeat an Ultra Beast to complete the quest. I have two questions regarding this, for which I couldn't find exact answers in the help thread, so I wanted to ask them here instead:

1. If you cannot beat the Ultra Beast, is your Ultra Saddle still consumed or do you get to try again with the same saddle?
2. How 'strong' does your Pokémon have to be level-wise when taking on this quest?

I only used maps but its probably similar to legendaries, level 90 and ultra saddle doesnt disappear after failing to beat ultra beast

So I actually got one by luck and I did the quest yesterday. I completed the quest several times bc I failed a few times and also I didn't have space in my party. The ultra saddle didn't disappear in either case but you might have to redo the entire quest if you fail?

I used a level 60 lunala while completing the quest that my mentor gifted to me and I won the battle after two tries bc of a type advantage. I would suggest using a stronger pokemon if there is no type advantage tho!

Also don't remove the lunala/solgaleo from your party while ur completing the quest bc that was what I did and it did not work (sounds stupid but i did not have space in my party so i tried to work my way around that but it did not work XD)

I can actually answer my own question, since I lost the first round to Buzzwole: you do not lose the Ultra Saddle, but you do have to do the entire quest again (meaning the interactions, puzzle and UB fight). Hope this helps, for anyone who might also be wondering!
