With a wave, you said good bye to your parents/guardians and joined a group of other kids at a seemingly random location.

This was finally it...Sage Academy.

The academy for magical young adults. Where you'll be looking forward to a year of fun, learning, and most importantly, magic!

Well, when you look at it now...it doesn't seem as cool as you had hoped.

Well, we'll get to the actual school in a bit. Time for a fun forest field trip with one of my favorite characters!

There was a big group of kids hanging out near a forest, only being chaperoned by one adult. A seemingly middle aged man stood watch over the kids. His scruffy voice rang out.

"Alright, we're gonna wait a few minutes for a few remaining people."

His voice stung of sarcasm, even through it was not intended. This man obviously did not want to be here.

Hadyn fixed his hair a bit, combing it. He got a little angry at his hair because it did not want to cooperate with the comb.
Hadyn was the first to arrive, because he was always the first. So he waited, and waited, and patiently waited for everyone to arrive. He could be patient.

West had sat down on her knees and examined a plant. It may have been a poisonous plant, it may not have been. Who knows. She doesn't care.
West had arrived with some of her friends. She was a social butterfly and had some old friends in this group. They were her only friends, as people nowadays see her green and black colored hair and instantly think she's a freak. Well, she's fine with that.

Theo nervously fiddled with his bag's strings and then pulled out a book.
Like Hadyn, he was one of the first to arrive. Well, he spent most of the time reading/drawing, and then also messing with his fluffy blonde hair.

click. click. click. click.

Kendo clicked a pen, over and over. It was honestly quite annoying but nobody spoke up so he kept doing t. He blew a lock of hair out of his eyes, allowing people to clearly see the burn scar that blossomed across the right side of his face. His eyes darted around.

"Nice wether we're having, huh?"

Rowan gripped his saddle bag tightly, kicking a rock on the ground. He looked to the sky, seeing nothing due to the tree branches. Rubbing his neck, he sighed. "It's too early for this. Oh, well."

For a man like Seijo, waking up at this hour wasn't all that difficult, given the fact that he was usually forced to wake up at the crack of dawn. He said goodbye to his quiet, peaceful home as he packed his bags and jumped in the car, deciding not to take public transport due to his... Distaste for crowded areas. People were loud and unpredictable, something Seijo did not want to deal with on this new day, and his journey to this new place.

. . .

At last, he arrived, his unwelcoming and cold expression glaring down at the ground beneath him was already enough to deter some of the students outside of the school. Seijo wasn't the most sociable person to say the least, the harsh and sharp demeanor he possessed was both a blessing and a curse as it scared enough people away to make him pretty much a recluse. Talking was overrated anyways, he found conversations to be boring and uninteresting, and thank god no one wanted to talk anyways.

Well, enough spewing random words that don't even make sense, onto the important bits.

Seijo stuffed his gloved hands into the pockets of his torn-up pants, still looking down as he made his way to where an older man stood, presumably in his 30s. He could instantly tell from the atmosphere around the area that he did not want to be here (and neither did Seiji to be honest, the noise was already making him regret it). His green hair curtained over his face, making it hard to tell what he thought about the situation because of how obscured his lowered head was. He simply made his way over to a lone tree and leaned against it, observing the small group from afar. Oh boy...

Gingerly picking his way through the tangled roots of the old forest, Kay had arrived almost an hour early just to make a good impression but thanks to the tricky terrain constantly snagging at his boots and knocking his cane out of hand, he was late. Typical. He even made an effort to dress properly, taking care to wear gloves and a low brim hat to hide away the scarring, but it seems that his soon to be classmates would be remembering him by something equally as bad.

Still, it was nice to just take in the new sights of a environment that he had never seen before. Of course, everything seemed new when you've been isolated into a single room for 15 years but even so, it was quite fascinating to see things that he had only ever read about before. For one, trees! They towered high above him and seemed to prop up the sky with its leafy boughs, stretching endlessly with thick trunks and knobby roots. What a delight it was, seeing such magnificent sights in person. And the sounds, oh they melded so beautifully from birds to the rustle of plants. Kay's own footsteps only added to it, the triplet added into the forest symphony. Breaking through his reverie, Kay entered the clearing where everyone was, being one of the last students to actually arrive. His cane thunked against the ground as he pushed himself into sight, only bowing apologetically to the chaperone. Shuffling over to the nearest tree, Kay sat down without thinking and let out a sigh as his aching feet finally got some rest. Thank goodness, he wasn't used to walking so much.

Spencer and Allie shared some sour cream and onion potato chips as they waited. It was a rather cute sight. Spencer would feed a chip to Allie, and then vice versa.
Malachi fiddled with his shoelaces, feeling quite nervous for whatever reason. He normally would've been the most chilled-out of the three of them. But today, he just felt different...

"Okay. Come on, no time to waste." The adult chaperone said, heading a few steps into the forest. "We're not stopping for anything." He said, then immediately stopped and turned towards the kids. "Except this."

"So. Clap clap clap, you can all do magic, good for you, good for you." He sounded even more sarcastic then before. "Which is why you're going to Sage. But the one rule of this nature hike...no magic. Especially no fires." He explained, and continued forward.

Hadyn grinned. A rule! Rules are meant to be followed. No magic on this hike. Got it!

West groaned, crossing her arms. Even though she so desperately wanted to break the rule...to test the limits of this supposed 'teacher', she couldn't really do so. Unless she got mad. Something to make me mad...something to make me mad...

Theo looked up from his book, listening to the chaperone. He frowned a little bit, before going back to his book and following the group.

Seijo sighed upon hearing that they were finally getting ready to go. He wasn't going to question whatever they were doing, he found it best to just go along, no questions asked, anyways.

"So. Clap clap clap, you can all do magic, good for you, good for you."

The green-haired boy let out a small chuckle, smiling a little as he lifted himself off of the tree and followed behind the group, trying to distance himself as much as possible. He found the sarcasm funny, quite welcoming even, as that was just the type of attitude Seijo was fond of.

"But the one rule of this nature hike...no magic. Especially no fires."

Wasn't plannin' on it, chief...
Seijo had already figured that "no magic" was the case, especially considering how dangerous it was to do so in a random forest. Besides, Seijo wasn't proud of his magic anyways, it was dull, boring, not very unique, and just straight-up silly, a heavy drawback to boot.

Spencer and Allie were normally pretty obedient when it came to Rules, so they simply accepted this and continued to chatter excitedly with each other.

Malachi, on the other hand... Well, he loved making Rules for other people to follow, but when it came to following Rules that he was given, it was a whole different ball game. The kind of ball game that gets rained out before it even begins. The kind of ball game that you pay a lot of money for tickets to see, and then there are no refunds once the game does get rained out. Let's just say that Malachi... Wasn't good with Rules.

Oh hooray, no more standing around! No using magic: yeah, that's an easy rule. Rowan nodded. It's not like he was going to use his powers anyways. Wouldn't want craters around the forest, would he? He followed after the others, turning his attention back to the environment. He suddenly realized how long he was gone from the world.

Considering that he couldn't exactly turn off his magic.... Well guess Kay was going to get expelled in the first five minutes :D

Pushing himself up, Kay followed along with a slower pace, taking care to watch where he was going not quite understanding the sarcasm. Picking his way through the uneven terrain, he took the chance to look around at the other students. The one hat caught his eye the most was Kendo, his visible burn scar sending envy crawling down Kay's spine. How nice it must be to be able to freely showoff such signs of failure and ugliness so confidently without anyone telling you otherwise. Even his soul flickered as brightly as his pride in showing off the scar, taunting in its flickering flames that Kay had to turn away lest he do something foolish. Like try and touch it.

Instead, he turned his focus on the other student who seemed to be lingering back, though he seemed to be doing it just because he could and not for any other reason. His soul too seemed darker, ombre flames flickering in various shades of vermilion and maroon. A lonely one then, he surmised, adverting his eyes respectfully. The various flames that flickered from person to person varied creating a myriad of hues and shades that almost threatened to overwhelm Kay, such a different experience than what he was used to and the dreary souls that he had been surrounded by all his life. He wondered what other new experiences where waiting for him, but first he'd have to survive the nature walk. And judging by how many times he'd tripped or stumbled, it would certainly pose quite the challenge.

Kendo whistled cheerfully as he walked along. He brushed a lock of hair out of his eyes, as they darted around. He grinned as he walked, observing the others. He noticed Kay looking at him. He cheerfully waved at him. He absentmindedly messed with a lock of his golden hair, cheerful and excited.

Well, someone's excited. Too excited, that's suspicious. Rowan squinted at Kendo, studying him. Hm, probably a fire user? The scars scared him a bit so he looked away and back at the trees. This school was basically an excuse for his parents to get rid of him so needless to say he was less than enthusiastic to be there.

The adult chaperone muttered to himself, before eventually stopping at a sort of 'arch' made out of a tree that curved downwards.

You couldn't really see anything through the arch, just the rest of the forest. There was no school in sight.

"Alright, we're here, woohoo." Sarcasm again. Obviously this guy did not want to be here.
"Erm...pardon me, sir, but it doesn't seem that we've arrived at the school..." Hadyn spoke up, standing a few feet behind the adult.

"... we're lost." West muttered, but her voice was barely a whisper. Great.

Theo was reading his book, not really paying attention. He bumped into the person infront of him, and muttered an apology before stepping back and putting his book down, admiring the forest around them.

Rowan scrunched his nose at the chaperone's attitude, trying to see what was ahead from behind. School? School where?? "Sir, there's no school. Is there some weird wacky magic fairy invisible barrier preventing us from seeing it or something?" He huffed, wrapping his arms around himself tightly. Wow that's a lot of adjectives.

Catching Kendo's greeting, Kay only bowed back respectfully before pulling his hat firmly over his face letting the shadows cover everything but his mouth in embarrassment. He hadn't meant to stare or get caught doing so, so unused to people actually... acknowledging his presence. Walking slowly, he stared at the path that was supposed to be their school, wonder written over his face through his was mostly covered. No one had to even look at his face to see it though as he stopped by the arch and marveling at the beauty of nature. It looked almost like he was a little child exploring the world for the first time, not really caring that there wasn't even a school.

Probably because he hadn't actually go to school before.

Walking over to one of the trees, Kay put his free hand over the gnarled wood and gently touched it, the rough glide of his gloves rubbing up against his scars. They had a similar texture, he noted almost absently, pulling away to kneel down by the bushes. Using his cane as a balance, he marveled at the bush and wondered how fire would consume such a small insignificant life. It didn't even have a soul to speak of, the sigh unobstructed by flickering fate for once. What a silly sight.

"Well, obviously it's a magic barrier. How else would we prevent people from getting in?" The chaperone said, approaching the arch. "Follow...if you dare." He said, stepping into the arch and disappearing.

West gasped. "Woaahh..." She approached the gate, walking slowly and touching the wood, looking into the arch. It still looked like the rest of the forest. The adult was gone.

Hadyn stared ahead for a moment, before following the adult. He walked formally, and soon disappeared into the arch as well.

Theo watched the scene, intrigued. He was still at the back of the group and had to stand on his tippy toes to see.

Kendo laughed, following the adult. He was having a lot of fun.

"You know, this is just like a movie I watched once-"

He disappeared through the arch.

The more that Seijo looked around, the more he realized...

A lot of people here had scars. How edgy.

He didn't have room to talk though, he was covered in them, and it's not like it mattered in the first place. All he did on the walk was trod along quietly, taking quick glances ahead of him to make sure he wasn't being left behind, as much as he wanted that outcome. He noticed a peculiar-looking person staring at him momentarily, shooting a harsh glare in response before looking back at the ground again. He hated stares, he hated people looking at him. It felt like daggers to his skin, itching to bury their way deeper and draw blood. Sure, it was just a little insecurity talking, but it was unpleasant nonetheless.

A sigh was let out as soon as the supposedly "arrived" at their destination, and Seijo just looked unimpressed. He didn't necessarily doubt their chaperone, but rather... he was just unamused. The fire-breather had no interest in anything magic in the first place, in fact, he tended to stray away from it, so this whole "magical barrier" thing simply annoyed him. Just like the man in front, Seijo wasn't all that fond of being here either. He had to appreciate his sarcasm though, now that was entertaining.

He simply stayed in the back the entire time, biding his time before it was his turn to just ✨magically disappear✨ into the woods. Seijo's arms were now out of his pockets and crossed across his chest, his head slightly tilted as he watched everyone else go before him.
