Is there a certain way to get Mystery boxes? Because I have a key but no box to use it for...and I can't buy one because I am broke...

Yes, there is. You can get Mystery items (Boxes and keys) from many places!
- The most prominent place is from Rumbles. By sending your ‘mons to rumble, and retrieving them after they are back, you can have chances to find different coloured mystery items. The higher your rumble area level is, the more chances you have for finding rare items like mystery boxes.
-At Emera beach, from Leah, you can exchange dark blue and light blue mystery boxes from her occasionally.
-By playing Golden Slot Machine at Legend level, you can have a chance to win Golden Mystery Boxes!
-By boiling Mega Stones in gem cauldron, you can have a little chances to boil Black Mystery Box or Key as a mistaken product.
