I'm still fresh but I got a decent handle on how things work here. I've been browsing many features (that cost $) and items you can buy that help you out. I interact as much as I can and do rumble missions, so I'm feeling like this is hard earned PD I have lol. I'm wondering what is truly worth the cost, like the flame orb, safari or egg radar chips. The other night I was feeling adventurous and bought nuggets to buy the poke radar, only to discover I had to immediately buy more or cough up all the PD I had for batteries just to use it, so I was kind of disappointed with that

Yes, at the beginning it is a little bit "buy this, buy that"
but after it gets easier ^^" Most items are worth it. The Pokeradar and Egg Radar Chips are worth it if you want to shiny hunt, as the Egg Radar Chips let you find eggs in the tall grass.
And, yes, you need to buy batteries - the cheapest point is either PD or electric gems, because nuggets cost 1.5k PD each (so, 50 nuggets is actually 75k PD) which is higher than the 50k you have to pay for a battery.
50k is pretty fair, because you can manage to sell shinies between 100-200k (as long as they aren't extremely common shinies) so you can make a profit and go back to hunt more (and keep making a profit.)
You have to buy a battery for each hunt you do, unless you're premium (which costs a fair bit of nuggets, though).
