Smart Ways to Die

A prideful female individual meets a weird boy along the
way when she travelled across the Kanto region. He claims to see ghosts of
humans and pokemon by wearing his glasses. Taken aback by his claim, she
regretfully agrees to help him, by finding her deceased grandfather in return.

"Thank you very much for choosing us. We hope you enjoy your stay here." The clerk handed my hotel keys with a smile. I smiled back, of course not to be rude.

It's my first time here in Kanto, Celadon. Main reason why I came here because of the perfumes they produce. And no, I'm not into them.. It's for my sister's birthday which is literally two weeks away and I don't want to waste any time to prepare.

"Room 94th." I whispered to myself trying to look for the specific room. I was nearly exhausted, dang. The hotel must be packed, considering the season. I was lucky to land a spot before it runs out or I will surely freeze outside.

I stopped on my tracks, in front of a door. Room 94th. Finally, I sighed, climbing the stairs was not a good idea. I inserted the key into the keyhole. Then it clicked, I got into the room in a few seconds. I glanced at the window, which was a little blurry due to the snow. The room looks more decent than I thought it to be.

I plopped down the bed, it's not that fluffy but it's average. I don't really have preferences, so it's not a problem for me. My bags are placed near the lamp stand. I stared at the ceiling not giving a darn about my hair sprawled across the pillows and I admit, it's a complete mess.

Grabbing a pocket book from my bag, I flipped a page. "Ahh, I should get going tomorrow." I sighed before settling it down. Letting myself drift to sleep.

"Nara! What's taking you so long there?" My older sister pounded as I smiled nervously.

"I've got business here." I shrugged which made her eyebrows raise, I can tell by the other side of the screen. "Don't worry I won't get to any trouble." I reassured her, she fought back a laugh.

"Oh look at that, it was like yesterday when you whore a diaper and now you're telling me that." She lightly chuckled, I rolled my eyes at her.

"Don't grow up so fast." She dramatically wiped a fake tear with a fancy handkerchief. "Don't act so mature just because you were older by a minute!" I exclaimed.

"If you say so lil sis." She giggled. "I'll be ending the chat now, I've got another challenger here. Bye bye~" She ended the call first, as usual. It's always like that so I'm used to it. I put my pokegear down and continued walking.

"The gym should be over here." I mumbled to myself, scanning the area. My eyes landed on a familiar building. Realizing it was the gym, I turned my heel to it's direction. What the hell is this old man doing here? I thought to myself.

"Heheh! This gym is great! It’s full of women!" He continued to peek inside. I shrugged the uncomfortable feeling off and entered the gym. This old man is creepy.

I surpassed Erika's self-centered minions in less than 10 minutes. I mean, I had the type advantage and their battle style was way too basic. Even a new trainer can beat those self proclaimed 'beauties', their cocky ways of boasting themselves is way too funny for me to take. Even though I didn't come for the badge, I still had a rough start to enter the gym because I'm not 'stylish' enough for them.

"Here." Erika presented a box. "This symbolizes that you have completely beaten everyone in this gym." She hands me the badge and does some useless blabbering.

"Honestly, I don't care." I blurted out which caused Erika to be taken aback. She must've expected a different reaction from me. One of her minions mumbled something under her breath probably cursing me to bad luck. The atmosphere grew annoyingly loud due to the whispering of her minions.

"I'm sorry, what did you just say?" She asked but it was clear that she was offended. Her minions gasped and looked at me in disbelief. I just shrugged at them and hid a lopsided grin.

"I don't care about the gym badge, it looks annoyingly fancy." I said. To be honest, I don't even like rainbows, vibrant hues of it meas eyesore to me.

"I came, not because of this piece of metal," I pointed to the dainty badge she was holding. "I came for you."

"Pardon?" She repeated.

"Yeah right princess, your minions didn't even let me see you when I came to discuss about the perfumes you're selling so I was forcefully pushed to this gym of yours." I bluntly said.

I returned my keys and left the hotel. I should head to Vermillion before night. I glanced at the ticket on my hand, SS Anne, it said. I sighed at put away the piece of paper. I took the grassy path and made sure I had a lot of repels on hand.

"It will cease to exist only if you.."

Those words echoed in my mind like a broken record. I broke out of my thoughts when I noticed my Girafrig was acting strange.

"Is there something bothering you?" I faintly asked. I am sure that I fed it right before I left the hotel this morning. Perhaps it picked up someone's presence nearby..

I whipped my head to it's tail, which was moving. I was alarmed by the movement of it's second head. Gotdangit, I only brought travelling pokemon with me. I hissed to myself. The only way is to escape at full speed, who knows what's lurking in the shadows?

"Agility!" I commanded, as Miya sped up, dashing out. Hold on tight. I whispered to myself. The shadow seemed to boost it's speed too. It must've noticed the quick movement. I released my Tropius, Citrus and ordered him to distract the other pokemon in the field.

"Sweet Scent once more!" I shouted again, that should hopefully buy some time. When I noticed the shadow was fading slowly I returned my Tropius though I never slowed down until I reached Vermillion City by sunset.

Chapter 1
Unsolved Proportions

"Ticket please?" A sailor asked me, I walked pass him, flashing the ticket. Still wearing a stoic expression, I ventured through a lot of rooms. I tried my best to avoid unecessary battles as possible, I was challenged by a couple of rich people which earned quite a value.

After getting my team healed I stayed at the lobby for a few hours. According to my calculations, SS Aqua should dock somewhere in Johto. Alto Mare is my next stop, which is unlikely since I only have atleast 2.7% chance.

I went to the deck as soon as I stepped foot in the luxury ship. I've been away from Hoenn my home for a few months now. I released my Tropius once more, and signaled. Wind pattern has changed, and from the looks of it I will be staying longer than I expected.

Rumbling roars occupied my ears. I desperately tried to distract myself from the noise. I sat at the side of my bed, concentrating my eyes on a book I've been trying to finish for the past few days. I can't call or use any of my devices except my pokedex since the signal is very poor.

"Crrrrrrk." My eyes darted to the direction of my door. A shiny Rotom flew through the room which startled me. I heard a male voice right after.

"Doze? Is there something wrong?" I was frozen, but I still kept my cool, quietly I withdrew a pokeball from my bag and quickly sent out my Sabeleye, Grim.

"Huh? Oh--" The male finally came into view while his Rotom accompanied them. "Shadow ball!" I shouted as Grim rose from the shadows, quickly forming a dark sphere of energy. I watched his face twist, he jumped back barely dodging my attack as his Rotom performed discharge as a counter attack.

"Wait! Wait!" He coughed as he waved his hands in defeat. My eyebrows rose and I stood up from my bed.

"I don't mean any harm, I just thought this was my room. I'm sorry." He stopped coughing from the dust. I didn't budge and just stared at him.

"Leave." I spoke.

"I don't want any interruptions so leave." I kept my stoic face. He gulped and nodded, clearly intimidated by my approach but I couldn't care less. The manager in charge arrived after he left. I didn't tell them what really happened and said my pokemon slipped accidentally.

Fast forward to the present, four days later the ship finally arrived at my destination. I headed to the dock as soon as I finished packing my belongings back. The passengers flooded the dock.

"Coming through! Oops! Pardon!" I saw a familiar boy rushing through the crowd. The same boy who trespassed my room. His raven hair danced with the sea breeze, his silver eyes glazed with racking glasses, I took a note. He is suspicious to me, I can't afford if he will cause more trouble to me.

I quickly noticed a few kids playing in the city's canal with their Pokemon. Seems like there's a special event going on. The lively place is crowded with visitors as I distanced myself from crowded places, skipping through the cobblestoned path.

I'll be heading back to Hoenn after finishing my studies here which will probably last for a month or two. I tried my best not to get lost, I was constantly glancing from a piece of paper that contained directions to the place where I'll be staying. After a few minutes, I found myself standing infront of a not so average house, in a positive way of course.

It was concrete mixed with a lovely faded shade of wood, probably old and passed from generation to generation judging from the walls covered slightly with moss. Though the frontyard is full of various flowers. I took a deep breath and knocked.

After a series of knocks, I was greeted by an old man. "I assume you must be Nara from Hoenn? Yes?" I nodded.

"Very well," He led me inside, asking me to wait while he calls his master. A few minutes later he came back with another senior and a young boy. He is definitely younger than me.

"Welcome to the household, Miss Seo." He greeted me after signalling the house companion to leave. "Ahh have a seat, I know you had a rough venture since the weather is gloomy." He lightly chuckled.

"And, I'd like you to meet my grandson, Eishun." He gestured to the younger boy. 'He will be accompanying you while you study here."

He offered me a hand, I looked stright into his peircing gold eyes. This will be a long month.
