"I thought you knew what I meant," she said, and hit me, causing me to fall to the floor.

"I did! But I'm not letting you die!"

"I'm not letting you die either." she hissed. "You think I'm playing around, Jay?"

"No... but you need to get up."

"Run, Jay, run, never look back."

"I'm not leaving."

I swear, she nearly smiled... Friend zones can go die.

"Then at least get up here," she said, moving over so she was pressed against the railing.

I climbed up so I was on the shelf. It was awkwardly tight, but at least we were safe.

"Keep watch," she muttered.

"You sound exhausted, Fawn."

"Oh, shut up, I'm fine..." she replied.

"Come on, sleep."

She frowned at me, but leaned backwards. Tingly...

After a few minutes, she fell asleep, and the guards started walking past.

"Stand up with your hands on your back and your face towards me."

I obeyed.

"Jay." the voice hissed.

"Exactly."

It laughed. "Quick as ever... Don't think I don't see her."

It sounded familiar, too familiar.

"A. Shut up. B. Take cover. C. Sit down. D. Listen to a story. E. Open your eyes."

"...What?" What is she saying?

"F. Listen to me."

I sat down, putting my arms over my head.

"Now listen.

She might let you go anywhere, might let you pull her around. But I've chased you both, chased you around this island, and you can't get away from me now. I've let you win before, Jay. But you're nothing, nothing compared to my true power.

You're about to die."

Suddenly it all fit. "Emra."

"Yes, Jay. Emra. It's ME." she hissed.

"So now you come running back to me?!"

"Jay--"

"It's been five years, Emra. I'm not the same as I was when I was ten."

"And I'm not the same as I was when I was thirteen. Just listen, or she dies."

Ohhhhh... FAWN.

The guards had grabbed her, and one was holding a... KNIFE.

"I'll listen, but hear me, Emra, if you hurt Fawn, I'll--"

"Oh, Jay. I'm not hurting anyone."

"How do I know I can trust you?"

Her eyes glowed. Creeeepy.

"You don't. I'm proving I've changed."
