Bastiaan paced himself with the younger boy's running so they were side by side. There were quite a few students that passed them up, in which he assumed were the athletic kids, or just the show-offs. "You know, I was pretty surprised myself," the male began, "It could have been worse if I just let it be, but I figured I should ask since everyone else had one." The male grinned and looked at all the students before him.
The sky was still overcast above, but in some parts, the sun's rays pierced through, reviving the world with it's warm color. The air was still thick with humidity from last night's rain, but there was a cool breeze which made it less noticeable.
"So, new guy, I never did get your name" he heard the younger boy say, breaking his thoughts. He turned his own gaze down to the boy as he replied.
"Bastiaan. Bastiaan Kaake," came his response coolly, "And yours?"

"Durae Sakimoto," he replied monotonously, facing forwards again. About two moments later, the coach claimed that all five minutes were up, much to the exhausted students' pleasure. He had all of the class line up in a single line and face towards him. This is how Durae imagined the military being.
"Alright class," he yelled. "We're going back inside the gym. Stay in line. The rest of the class is free-time," he said grumpily. The class made their way back into the gym, and Durae loved the pleasant feeling of the gym's cool air on his face. "Feel free to grab a basketball or something off those shelves," he yelled as he pointed to some metal shelves that held various sports equipment. Most of the boys immediately ran over to the shelves and began viciously pulling off basketballs, volleyballs, soccer balls, and basically any other sports balls of which one could think.
Durae preferred to just stay behind and walk laps around the gym, as he didn't like any of the sports they were playing, and he most certainly didn't like any of the people who played them.

"Nice to meet you," the male replied in a friendly tone.
After the seemingly short run, the class was then told to go back inside and were given the option do do what they wanted. Bastiaan wasn't exactly interested in the sport that the majority of the boys were playing and he didn't see anyone sitting around, so he just tagged behind Durae. He didn't want to seem bothersome to the other boy, so he just kept his distance.
The day's almost done. I'm surprised, it's not as bad as the other demons claim it'd be. I need to keep this a secret.
As the demon walked around the gym, still keeping his distance behind the boy, he continued to take glances at the clock to see what time it was. There was only one more class after this - science.
He had a good idea on what the subject was about and he figured that it might just be the most helpful subject in his study on the humans and the world around them.

The second school bell had finally rung, and Durae began making his way towards his science class. Even though he didn't really like any of the classes he took, science was one of his favorites, since the science teacher was usually pretty calm about most things, and the anatomy was much more interesting than running for five minutes.
He waltzed into the classroom with a somewhat confident stride, and found his desk. He worked his way around the other students, and slung his backpack behind his chair as he took his seat.
Most of the students would stand around their desks and chatter away before the science teacher would come in. All of the girls would sweet-talk the guys, and the guys would talk about how well they did during the football games.
It made Durae sick, although he was slightly jealous, as no girl would ever talk to him about how well he could slay dragons in those fantasy video games he played. He was also embarrassed being shorter than the majority of the females, much less the other guys.
He decided not to think too much about it, and laid his head on his desk. He began fiddling around with the zipper on his jacket again - a bad habit he had.

Bastiaan felt like it was so nice to finally change out of the gym uniform and change back into his usual attire. Before he left the locker room, he adjusted his tie in the mirror and fixed his hair. Let's just get through this last class, he thought to himself as he slung his bag over his shoulder and left the locker room.
A rush of cool air from the hallway hit him once he opened the big gym door and exited into the hallway. A wave of students were coming through the hallway in his direction, so he had to press his side against the wall to avoid them. "Room 164," he whispered to himself as he passed room after room and checked their numbers. "Should be close. 170, 168.. There."
As Bastiaan twisted the doorknob and pulled the door open, the bell rang to signal that class had begun. Students were already sitting in their seats at this point, several of them still holding onto their conversations with the person next to them. There were two empty seats in the back of the room, so the male made his way through the rows of desks and sat down in one of them.
Phew, made it on time.

The door to the medium sized classroom began squeaking, and everyone knew the teacher was entering the room. Durae watched as a beautiful brunette women entered the classroom. She was tall and thin, and wore her curly hair tied in a side-ponytail. Durae was rather surprised when he saw her walk in instead of his typical old man science teacher. He assumed she was somewhere in her twenties.
"Good afternoon, everyone," she said in a calm voice. Durae listened as the other students all welcomed her with a monotone, "good afternoon".
"My name is Ms. Akimi, and I'll be your new science teacher. I don't know if you've heard, but Mr. Momoru quit." The whole class began whispering to eachother, nothing Durae could make out, though. Ms. Akimi cleared her throat and continued talking. "I hope you all don't mind me teaching y'all for the rest of the year," she said with a bright smile on her face. The other guys in the classroom don't seem to mind, Durae thought with a somewhat amused expression on his face.
"Now, I don't know you all very well, but I'd most certainly love to, so we're going to play a little game," she said, almost too happily. "We'll start in the back of the room," she said as she pointed to the back corner on her left. "Please stand up and tell me your name, your age, and something interesting about you." A blonde-haired boy immediately stood up and began listing off the things Ms. Akimi had said. After he had sat down, a brown-haired female stood up and did the same. Durae began thinking about what he would say for his "interesting something".
Most of the boys said stuff Durae thought was stupid like, "I like sports" or something along those lines of stupidity. Durae was thinking about how he had finally gotten some luck by being seated in the front left row of the class so he didn't have to go first. His desk was located under the air vent, which was constantly blowing out cold air, but he was thankful he didn't have to be crammed between two other students.
Durae's focus had suddenly dropped when he realized it was Bastiaan's turn to say his name, his age, and something about him.

Not long after he had sat down in his seat in the back of the room, the door squeaked open and a young woman entered the classroom. Bastiaan's eyes widened in astonishment at the sight of her; he was definitely not expecting such a human to walk through that door. An annoyed smile appeared on his face as he saw a couple of the other guys fawn over her. "Pitiful humans," he muttered to himself with a sigh.
The teacher had then wanted them all to give some information about themselves and share it to the class. The back row of students started first and it was soon his turn to stand up and speak about himself. He paused for a moment as all eyes went on him, and he tried to think of something believable. He cleared his throat before he began. "Hello, the name's Bastiaan. I'm 17 years old and I just moved here from uh, Hell, Michigan. Nice to meet you all!" He beamed a smile and hoped it helped make his brief speech less awkward. He then rubbed the back of his head with a smile still plastered on his face and he quickly sat down to let the next person go, hoping everyone else would turn all their attention on them instead.

Durae listened intently to Bastiaan's introduction. Hell? Is that even a place in Michigan? he thought to himself, then signed. He shifted in his seat nervously as the boy who sat next to him sat down after speaking. It was now Durae's turn. He had never really liked public speaking. Even though this wasn't really considered "public speaking", he didn't like the idea of standing up in front of the whole class and speaking, and he most certainly didn't like speaking about himself.
He took a deep breath and gently placed his hands on the table as support for pulling himself out of the chair. Unlike the other students, he kept his head down and his eyes looking down towards the desk. He took his hands off the desk and began fiddling around the zipper on his jacket again.
Instead of actually talking, as the teacher had hoped, he had just began mumbling words that were barely audible. After a few seconds of annoyance, the teacher poked the top of his head. He flinched at the sudden interaction, and flipped his head up to look at the teacher. He noticed that she was about five inches taller than him, which practically killed any remaining confidence he had.
"Could you please speak up a bit? I can't hear you," she said with a frown on her face. He bit his lip so hard, he thought he could taste his own blood. He gave a slight nod and began speaking.
"I-I'm Durae Sakimoto," he said as his voice cracked. He took another deep breath. "I'm fifteen." He bit his lip again, not knowing what to say for the "interesting fact".
"Crap. I literally am the least interesting human being ever," he thought to himself out loud. "What'd you say?" The teachern asked.
"Eh? Oh, um...I-uh... I said I like cats..." He quickly sat down and felt himself blushing out of sheer awkwardness. He was the last student to speak, which made it all the more awkward.
The teacher placed her hands on her hips and let out a soft sigh. "Alright then. We'll start with getting out our books." She walked over to her desk and picked up a pair of reading glasses, then walked back over to her podium and began flipping through some papers. "Today's lesson will be on how the brain functions," she said as she adjusted her glasses. "Please flip to chapter six, lesson three on page one-hundred twenty-four."
The sound of pages flipping and books opening reverberated throughout the classroom. Durae had reached into his bag and began moving his hand around to find his book.
Nothing.
He lifted an eyebrow in confusion and twisted over to look through his backpack.
Nothing.
He let out a deep sigh of distress and shoved his head in his arms. I should probably tell her I left it in my locker, he thought to himself. He bit his lip again and raised his hand slowly. He had never felt so...awkward in front of a teacher before. After a few minutes, Ms. Akimi finally noticed his hand was up. "Mr. Sakimoto? Do you have a question?"
"U-um...I think I left my textbook in my locker," he said quietly. "Would it be okay for me to go bet it?"
The young women cocked a hip and scratched the back of her head. She then hesitantly said, "sure. It will count as an unexcused tardy, though. Make it quick."
Durae nodded and quickly made his way to the room's closed door. He hated how it squeaked every time it was opened, as it drew so much unwanted attention. He wrapped his pale hand around the copper door handle and slightly opened the door, and made his way out of the stuffy classroom..

It was student after student with the introductions and it grew rather boring pretty much after the demon himself went. As he hoped, all the student's eyes had shifted over to the next student after him, and the next after them. He took a deep breath, realizing that he had not caught as much attention as he expected. After a few minutes, he saw Durae stand up from his desk to begin his brief speech.
He could sense the nervousness in the boy's behavior and in the way he spoke immediately when the first words came out. He observed the boy carefully as he spoke, curious on what he would say about himself. When the words "I said I like cats" came out of his mouth, Bastiaan's eyebrow rose in slight bewilderment at the small statement. He was rather disappointed at the insignificant statement, but he decided to brush it off.
Even after Durae was done speaking, the demon's gaze still rested on the human. He could feel a sinking feeling in his chest, but he couldn't exactly figure out what it was. No, it can't be. Is this pity? For another human being?
He could feel himself grow rather nervous by the second and he hadn't heard the teacher tell the entire class to get out their textbooks. He was too lost in his own thoughts and the world around him was shut out.

On the way to his locker, Durae had passed the bathroom. He decided now would be a decent time to take a quick breather, so he walked into the bathroom and stared at himself in the mirror for a few minutes.
"Boy I'm scrawny," he mumbled to himself in sheer disappointment. Even though he knew he'd never be liked by any of the girls in his grade, he still wanted to look decent, so he took a few seconds to fix is hair a bit. He sighed as he saw his reflection and decided he had to get back to class or else he'd miss too much of the lesson. He turned around and opened the door and began continuing to his locker.
When he finally got there, he opened it up and scrutinized it for a brief second before his blue eyes rested upon a thick, navy blue textbook. He let out a relived breath and pulled it out, almost dropping it due to forgetting how much it weighed.
He felt as if every pair of eyes in the class turned to face him as he opened the door. He looked down at the ground to avoid unwanted eye-contact, and quickly made his way back to his desk.
As Ms. Akimi finished talking, she took off her glasses and folded them up, then neatly placed them on her podium. "Alright everyone. I want you to find a partner and work with them on this sheet of paper," the brunette said as she held up a thin piece of typewriter paper. Durae couldn't tell exactly what all was on it, but could tell that there would be lots to do. Of course, the students all found their best friends and were partners for the small activity. "This will be due in two days, so get it done quickly," said the teacher from behind her desk.
Durae hated working with someone else more than anything. Luckily, there was an odd number of students in the science class, so he typically got to work alone. He looked around, expecting the same circumstance, until he noticed Bastiaan. Bastiaan was a new student, which meant an even amount of kids, which meant everyone got a partner.

Bastiaan managed to snap out of his thoughts as the students all got up from their desks and started moving around with their textbooks. He had no idea what was going on as he had just been lost in his thoughts but after a few more moments of watching them, he noticed that they were all sitting with one other person and seemed to be working on something in the textbook. He, of course, did not have a textbook and after everyone had settled down, he noticed Durae in the front of the room sitting by himself. Well, here goes another attempt, he thought to himself as he got up from his own desk and made his way to the front.
The male sat down in the desk to the left of where Durae was sitting before he spoke up. A small friendly smile appeared on his face as he spoke. "Hey, uh, again! Would you like to work together?"
The male crammed his previous thoughts elsewhere so he could focus on what really mattered now. It was only his first day in the school and he was already feeling for a human. There is something with these humans...

Durae watched the taller male intently as he advanced. However, he was completely caught off-guard when the older male offered him a friendly smile and asked if they wanted to work together. Durae stared up at the student who stood before him. This guy's a little it too friendly, he thought to himself.
He forced a fake, amiable expression to appear on his face, so as not to show his confusion of the male's friendly attitude. "That sounds fine to me," he said.
His eyes quickly scrutinized the thin sheet of paper Ms. Akimi had passed out to the class.
"Please describe how high-frequency sound waves affect the brain at its highest peak of stimulation. Please give an example."
Durae read the question over and over in his head. "What the heck does that mean?!" He continually asked himself out of sheer frustration. He let out a deep sigh and put his head man his hands. However, he remembered Bastiaan was still present next to him when his elbow bumped the older male's, and turned the paper around so the other student could see with more ease.

Looking at the paper that Durae had turned his way, he shared the same confusion the younger boy had. He didn't know any of the information better than the other would, so he pulled the boy's textbook towards him. "I have no idea, but there has to be something in here," he muttered, as if mostly to himself.
He began flipping through the pages of the chapter, scanning all the words on each page, with surprising eagerness. Just look at all this information, he thought to himself, moments before his eyes stopped midway through a page. It was a fairly decent-sized paragraph, titled "High Frequencies".
"It has to be in here," he said louder to the male beside him, "I'm not sure what any of this means, but there has to be something word for word, right?"
His pale finger traced through the rows of text on the page as he searched for some sort of clue about the answer. "But how exactly does it affect the brain?" he read word for word aloud. Of course, the next sentence was exactly what he was looking for. He still didn't quite understand what it was talking about, but he made assumptions to himself in words he understood. He began scribbling down the answer he found in the textbook and ended with an accomplished sigh. "Question one done!"

Durae's blue eyes flicked up at the male, then back down at the sheet of paper that sat before them. He put his hand in front of his mouth to hide a small smile that appeared. I should've talked to this guy way before now. He must be good at science, he said as he tapped the fingers on his other hand on the table.
Durae read through the second question in his head.
What is the highest sound wave frequency an average human can hear?
He continued to tap his pale fingers on the table out of slight confusion and played around with the mechanical pencil in his other hand. His eyes went back up to the older male. "Any idea what this means?" He asked as he tilted his hand and rested it on his right hand.
Then the solution finally popped into his head. "It's probably in the book somewhere," he mumbled to himself as he pulled the thick textbook towards himself. His eyes began scanning the page, looking for any key words. Finally, they rested upon a bold sentence, which read, "the average human being can hear sound wave frequencies of twenty to twenty-thousand." He let out a soft, "ah" and wrote the sentence under question number two.
After he was finished, he glanced up at the male, feeling confident in his answer. "Question number three."

Bastiaan watched intently as the boy beside him worked on the second question on the worksheet before them. He could notice that the younger male was beginning to feel more comfortable working on the questions and had an idea on how to find the answer. There was only three more questions left on the worksheet and the older male could tell they would have it done in no time.
As he had finished up his answer, a small grin appeared on his face and he responded, a calm but happy tone in his voice. "Good job."
Bastiaan was onto the third question and it wasn't long before he found the answer in the book. It was another 'right there' question, which made everything so much easier for him and he began to write the answer down on the worksheet. The two males went back and forth finding and writing down the answers until the worksheet was completely done.
After Bastiaan had set down the pencil when he was finished writing down the last question's answer, he lifted his head up and glanced around to see where the other students were at on their work. Surprisingly, it looked like Durae and Bastiaan were one of the only groups that had actually finished the worksheet. The rest of the students were still deep in conversation, some with only one or two of the questions done. "Well, it looks like we're good," Bastiaan commented, now glancing at the clock, which showed that class was just about over.

The pair of students continued working until all of the questions had been answered. About two minutes before the school bell rang, they had written down the answer to the last question. Durae clicked his pencil in a sense of accomplishment, as this was the only time he had actually finished an assignment in class.
The school bell's ringing reverberated throughout the halls, and the students came rushing out of their classrooms. Durae walked out of the classroom behind Bastiaan and tried to catch up to him unnoticed. He scratched his white hair and glanced up at the taller male. "Thanks for helping me out during science," he mumbled with a sheepish smile on his face. "I know it was a partner thing and all, but you're really good at science."
I kind of wish I were that good he thought to himself.
He bit his lip and quickly made his way to his locker, trying to avoid all of the students. He opened his locker and began quickly throwing his books into there. Why did I say that to that new guy? he thought to himself. He shook his head, trying to forget about his encounter with Bastiaan. I'm so stupid. He let out a deep breath. "Whatever," he mumbled to himself.
He swung his bag over his shoulder and began making his way home.

Once the bell rang, signaling that school was finally over, Bastiaan stood up from the desk and handed in the worksheet to the teacher, before walking out the door. He didn't exactly have anything left to say to the younger boy before he left and he was a bit relieved that his first day being at this school was finally over.
The male quickly walked straight down the narrow hallway to the doors in the back of the school. He didn't have to stop at his locker to drop anything off or to take any of his textbooks home, which was another relief. He could just go back to his apartment and relax. Just as he passed a couple of other classrooms, he heard a voice behind him. Noticing it was a familiar voice, he guessed it was Durae. His guess was confirmed true as he turned around and saw the white haired boy walking behind him.
Bastiaan was shocked at the compliment he was given. "You're really good at science," the boy said. A wide smile appeared across his own face and he hesitated before responding. "Let's work again sometime."
He turned around, the smile still plastered on his face as he continued to walk towards the back doors to the school, and out into the open world.

Durae slowly walked to his house, looking around at his surroundings. It had gotten noticeably cloudier, and Durae feared that if he didn't make it home quick enough, it'd begin raining upon him whilst he was still vulnerable. He sighed and closed his eyes, remembering what he had said to Bastiaan.
He wasn't sure why he had said that; he never really complimented people. In fact, he rarely spoke to anyone in general, but something about the new student made him want to learn more about him. There was some sort of mysterious aura the older male held that fascinated the teen.
He passed the same bench that he had seen this morning. He basically memorized the entire route to the school and back home after walking it so often. His thoughts were suddenly interrupted when he heard a foreign noise behind him.

Several dark mists manifested themselves behind the younger boy. The mists instantly began to materialize into four towering, slender males, or demons specifically.
A sharp laughter could be heard from one of the demons as his eyes were locked on the back of Durae's head. "It's time for a feast!"

Bastiaan pushed open the school's back doors and escaped into the outside world. It was still fairly humid and the clouds looked even darker than they had when his class had been outside for gym. During gym, it seemed that the storm had entirely passed as the clouds were beginning to break up, allowing the sun to shine through, but now it looked like another wave of storms were entering the area. The male let out a deep sigh and began to make his way home, hoping that he would make it before it really started to rain.
About halfway to his apartment, he spotted several dark figures on the sidewalk before him. They all looked like they were grouped together conversing, but as the male got closer, he could tell that they weren't just amongst themselves. A shorter figure was standing opposite of them, someone he could tell did not fit in with them. The male continued to approach cautiously, not knowing what to expect from these seemingly other humans.
The sight before him became clearer as he approached, and it was just then when he realized that the shorter figure was Durae. He lives this way? the demon thought to himself. This doesn't look good..
"Hey!" he called out, not to Durae, but to the other figures to catch their attention and to turn them away from the younger male. At this point, he still couldn't tell who these people were exactly.
He felt his chest tighten as the figures turned around, their glinting red eyes fixating directly on Bastiaan.
"Bastiaan, what a surprise," the tallest figure spoke, a sinister grin stretching across his face. Suddenly, a soft drizzle began, as if giving signal to what was coming next.

Durae shivered as he felt a cold wind brush against the back of his neck. "It's time for a feast," he heard someone say. A feast? Durae asked himself mentally. He felt a drop of sweat glide down the side of his forehead. It's not hot...why am I sweating? They don't want to eat me or anything. That'd be cannibalism, he thought. He wanted to make a run for it, but his legs wouldn't move. He began panicking until a rather familiar voice made itself known.
He turned his head to look at Bastiaan when he heard the student's voice. "Hey," the male had yelled.
Durae let out a quiet sigh of relief when Bastiaan had showed himself. Why is he here? he asked himself. Does he know these people? Are these guys even people!?
A million questions ran through the boy's head, and he practically wanted to interrogate the other males. His thoughts were suddenly interrupted when he felt a large drop of rain fall upon the top of his head. He scratched the top of his head, and was reminded of the situation when one of the males spoke.
"Bastiaan, what a surprise," he had said.
Durae bit his lip. He wanted so badly to run home, run back to school, run towards Bastiaan, anything to get him away from the tall human-like figures that surrounded him.
"Who the hell are you people!?" The boy hollered at the male who mentioned the "feast".
