"That's rather pessimistic," Fox murmured, idly spinning the
weapons in his fingers. "We're all pessimistic, Fox. There's a
reason," Venom grumbled. Fox looked over at him, his head lax
against the wall. "It's be nice to look at the bright side for one,
Venom. You never do." Venom looked away, flinching at the sudden
nearby gunshots.
justin sighed and clenched his teeth, listening to the gunshot's in
the distance that rang.
jade tensed in her sleep and started trembling, whimpering slightly
from the sound of the gunshot's.
Crysia stared blankly at the curtains, which were worn-out and
dusty from age. The gunshots stopped, and evanescent ring that
faded into the night. I'm not going to sleep, anyways, she
thought, looking behind her towards the door. It had been blocked
with a small nightstand, but a Nova could easily get through the
obstacle; it would just slow them down. She glanced towards the
floor, seeing signs of movement, but realized it was only a
cockroach. "When's the next hunting run? We're going to have to
send more people than last time," she murmured.
''wouldn't early in the morning work best.....? the best prey there
is, is early in the morning.. i only managed to find a duck near a
lake'' justin said.
Fox, hearing the talk of hunting, looked over at Justin and paused.
"It depends on where we are, really... as far as I know, this is a
Lux town." He then shrugged, as if dismissing his claim. "Either
way, I volunteer for hunting," he said happily, looking towards the
curtain as if he were looking out the window.
"I never said it was a bad idea," Fox chirped. "Especially since
most Novas sleep in the early morning... at least, the ones I've
spotted in the trees." Quinn blinked at him in surprise, setting
her weapon down in the small space between the wall and the couch.
justin glanced over at jade and then at fox.
''would you comfort her... she's probably now having nightmare's
from those gunshot's that went off' he said.
jade was still trembling in her sleep and had tear's running down
her face, curled up even more.
Fox sighed and looked at Crysia for help, not being the best at
comforting. He walked over to Jade, his golden eyes glinting, and
tapped her shoulder lightly. "Jade... hey, Jade. Wake up... you're
having nightmares, kiddo," he murmured softly.
justin face palmed and cursed under his breathe. he's a complete idiot... he thought.
jade's eye's shot open and she yelped, accidentally backhanding him
in the face.
Fox blocked her hand, resisting the urge to curse. "Sorry," he said
hastily, "you know I'm terrible with people." Another gunshot rang
in the distance.
jade flinched at the sound of a gunshot and covered her head,
starting to cry now as she tried to block out the noise.
''i want to go home....! i want to go home.......!!'' she sobbed
quietly.
justin sighed and clenched his teeth a bit tighter as he stared at
the window.
Fox, although unfazed by the gunshots, listened for any other
sudden bangs. There was a loud, raspy scream that was abruptly cut
off. He sighed, looking around the unlit room and resting his gaze
upon Jade. He had neither the words or social ability to comfort
her, so he simply took Jade's hand softly. The room was in complete
and utter silence, something that Fox normally considered quite
soothing. He didn't say anything.
jade tensed up slightly and looked up at him.
she got up and hugged him tightly, hiding her face as she cried
still.
justin looked over and blinked.
''quinn?'' he called out, a bit worried.
Quinn perked up at the sudden mention of her. She hugged her knees
closer to her chest, brushing her aquamarine bangs away from her
eyes (even though she couldn't see). "I'm here. What's wrong?" She
asked with concern.
Quinn, having no way to respond, shut her eyes. In the distance,
she could hear the whirring of helicopter blades against the
sky--new Nova captives, probably. A chill went up her spine as the
rumbling faded away. How many Novas are still here?... How many
haven't survived? She shifted uncomfortably in her spot, the
dusty floors dragging against her legs. There's no way that the
Lux would just let us have a safe shelter. They mean for us to
die... this is a trap. Quinn bit the tip of her tongue,
desperately trying to convince herself she was being paranoid.
Quinn, although not tense, looked over at him and sighed. We
left Lyra behind to die... how could I let myself do this? A
weight held her chest. I betrayed her... after all she'd done
for me. She sunk deeper into Justin's embrace, biting her lip
out of a nervous habit.
he sighed and pulled quinn up into his lap, putting his arm's
around her as he hugged her and rested his forehead against her
head close to her ear.
''i'm sorry we had to leave her quinn.... it was selfish.. what i
said about leaving her there...... i knew she was your friend but..
i just didn't want to loose the girl i care deeply about if lyra
turned on us.....'' he whispered quietly into her ear, his voice
trembling slightly.
