Stripes looks at the full moon in the sky. The Choser joins her. "What do you see, Oh Wise One?" asks Stripes. The Choser pauses. Then he says, "A great war is coming."

The next morning Zee and Mya wake up first. "C'mon Zee!" cried Mya. She pestered him untill he agreed to go hunting in the forbidden part of the forest. Yonder thought he saw a tail dissapear into the undergrowth as he streched in the morning sun. He spoke to Feather. "Hows it? Exited for mate chosing later?"

Yonder grinned, "Worried eh? You could end up being mates with-" Yonder broke up as The Choser strode past. "Hhhmmm..." he seemed to be in deep thought. "Stripes is of age... She could do with a mate..." Yonder stared. Stripes with a mate! What a thought...

Yonder looked at her walk away.

"Zee. We should not be here- YELP!" Mya squeaked as Zee pounced on her. He hissed, "Quiet! We'll be found. And anyways, you coming to the outer territory or I will tell papa 'bout your crush with-" Mya took a swipe at Zee, narrowly missing his snout.

Zee froze. He whispered to Mya, "She aint yabberin to us OK?" Mya crouched lower, hiding in the undergrowth. "Actually she can," drawled a cold voice. "Aunt Stripes!" croaked Zee, "I-I was coming h-home but I g-g-got sidetracked." Stripes picked up Zee by the scruff. "Gwet Myar, Feathwer," she said, through Zee's pelt.

"Gwet Myar bwy 'er cwuff. Like Zwee an' meh." She indicated Zee, who was embarrassed by being held like a cub. Well he was a cub but one more moon didn't count right?

Zee hit the ground with a thud! and ran to his family cavern. Mya followed.

Several hours passed. Only when the moon was high and full, did anything happen. All wolves age 2 and over gathered at the high rock. It was chosing hour. "Ahem," The Choser cleared his throat. "I have decided that there will be two new pairs of mates this moon." The crowd gasped. Two? "Yess..." "I won't be chosen!" "Wahoo!" Excited wolves began whispering. "Enough. The pairs will be as followed; Yonder, I think that you and Feathers will be happy together." A cheer rose from the crowd. Yonder gave the howl of acceptance. "Now, Stripes." A murmur went through the crowd. " I think that-" "No!" Wolves turned and stared. Stripes was standing on a rock. The rock of leaders. "I will not be chosen." she snarled, ears flattened on her head. Several wolves hissed and growled.

Stripes was instantly attacked by a gang of wolves. Fur was hurled into the air. "ENOUGH!!" cried The Choser, "Stripes, you understand that you will be exiled." "Sure gramps, just don't chose me." "Gramps? I am not that old yet, Stripes." Stripes rolled her eyes. A bush rustled near by. A huge, dark grey wolf appeared. "Aaaaah... Stripey's chosing time. Who's the unlucky fella then, Gramps..." The Choser flared up. "I am not old yet, Roke." Roke grinned. Yellow fangs glinted. "When Stripey's exiled, I will return..." He backed away. The Choser looked at the other wolves. They all seemed to think along the same lines. "Fine. Stripes, you stay. Gather a team of warriors and trackers. I want Roke to be found in the next moon. Tomorrow is Zee and Mya's Rite of Passage."

"Did ya hear that, Mya? We are warriors tomorrow!" Zee bounded across their cavern. Mya rolled her eyes.

Yonder shook his head. One glance at Stripes was it. Stripes had a bad temper. She approached Feather. "Coming? You too Yonder." Yonder spoke softly." when do we start? I want to get medicine supplies." Stripes thought. "Dawn to daybreak. I will get Fluff and... " she broke off. "Never mind." She padded to her den, a very good one that had rain water and a good supply of shrew. It was the Alpha den.
