"There is a note over there," Yuki exclaimed. He read it aloud.
"If you have defeated or captured the Groodiam that guards this letter, then you are worthy of the Feathers behind it: the Sight Feather and the Blade Feather, each of which summons a Legendary Pokémon when held to the sky at a certain place."
"Items that summon Legendary Pokémon?!" Yuki squealed. "U-um... Which one do you want?"

"Greetings, challengers," the Gym Leader saluted. Unaware of Chloe's thoughts, he continued, "My name is Ariel, and I specialize in the Flying type. No, my name is not a pun. Gym Leaders always seem to subconsciously gravitate towards the type that their name resembles. It's weird and creepy. But no, my name is not an intentional pun."

Laughing nervously, Yuki disregarded the rambling about puns. "So... um... May we both please battle you? This is my first Gym battle, but I'll try my best to win!!"

Ariel nodded, miraculously understanding, and led the two to the battlefield, a spectacular arena resembling a stage. "Now, allow me to explain the rules of the battles. We may each use as many Pokémon as we like, and may substitute Pokémon freely. However, if just one of your Pokémon is rendered entirely unable to battle, rather than being switched out, you will automatically lose. Additionally, the arena is tailored towards Flying-type Pokémon. If you have any, I highly recommend using them."
Yuki looked around. It looked like a perfectly ordinary stage to him... Something didn't seem right...
Ignoring the feeling that there was more to the battlefield than he thought, Yuki sent out his first Pokémon - Groodiam - and prepared to battle.
Ariel blinked, then did a double-take. "A Groodiam?! How on earth did you manage to get a Groodiam?!"
"U-um... There was one in the tower..." Yuki replied. He was already feeling quite nervous.
Ariel dropped the subject, remembering the battle, and sent out his first Pokémon - Regenibis.

"Regenibis, use Steel Wing!" Ariel instructed.
"Please dodge it, Groodiam!" Yuki requested.
Regenibis' wings began to shine with white energy, then suddenly turned metallic as it dove down towards Groodiam. The Steel-type move would be super-effective, and Yuki hoped Groodiam would dodge...
