The sheer amount of anxiety coursing through my veins right now is tremendous; putting myself out there is something I don't like doing. I really don't like talking about myself in front of hundreds or thousands of strangers, but this situation was just so ridiculously hilarious that I just had to share it. I'm-a cut to the chase: I was recently locked out of my account for "cheating"... and I deserved it a thousand-fold. I had this epic speech planned out that was going to talk about the consequences of unchecked curiosity but, near the end of my essay-sized spiel, I had a sudden realization: I've actually been cheating the interactions this entire time without realizing it. Although my account says I've been on here for about 2 years at this moment, I've technically only been on here for about 4 or so months; I made an account on a whim because I saw this site being advertised on Facebook Messenger and wasn't originally planning on using it. As such, I never actually read the rules. Around 3 months ago, I wrote up a code (in Python) that would help me with the Hang Man mini-game thing (I have a hard time remembering things and I read that others did something similar to help with the game so I figured it was okay to do; I'm now wondering if it's okay to distribute it since, while it was thought up to help with my memory problems, it was originally designed for others to use). If this is also considered cheating, then I wouldn't be too surprised considering what I'm about to say. Around that time, I wanted to write something else for this site since programming stuff for others is kind-of fun for me. That is when I thought writing a literal auto-clicker was a good idea. Funnily enough, this isn't why I got banned. Around a week or so of having it, I came across the rules page and read it on a whim (a re-occurring thing I'm now realizing). I saw that auto-clickers were basically illegal, so I immediately deleted it... only to then create essentially the same thing about a month or so later. I didn't get any messages about cheating when using the original code (which made me wonder what was being checked to determine how someone cheated... I still wonder this actually), but I did get two of them ON THE SAME DAY while using the new code. I was honestly confused as to how I was cheating when, at the time, I thought I wasn't doing anything wrong. Then I was banned from my account a day later for a month. For the longest time, I thought I was being (for a lack of better words) accused of cheating because I wasn't as careful of my mouse placement as I usually was. I thought it was because of the random jump in interactions I was making. Now I have a general idea as to what the problem was: when I read the warning messages, they made a brief mention of a mouse with two left-clicks. At the time, I wondered how that would be considered cheating. "That just means alternating which button to press, of which isn't any easier than using one button. Maybe pressing both at the same time counted as two presses?", I thought to myself. "What even is a two-left-click mouse and why would anyone even have one?", I thought to myself. "A mouse that only does left-clicks sounds incredibly useless", I thought to myself... And then I would immediately use a code I wrote up that was the EXACT SAME THING BUT WORSE. Basically, the code I'm referring to allowed the user to hook up a USB controller and map all buttons to the left click button. The rest is history. The fact I didn't realize I was actively cheating is so incredibly depressing that it is honestly hilarious. It just sucks I came to the realization after I've essentially lost my account. My only regret is that I can no longer achieve my goal of giving people stuff at a reduced price (the fact that some users charge so much for so little aggravates me, so I was hoping to offer cheaper alternatives)... that, and I spent real-life cash on this site, though that's my fault for spending college money on a game that promotes my hoarding habits. I'm not here to complain about a ban that I earned. Honestly, staring at my account from my sibling's account and seeing all of the stuff I've gathered just sitting there hurts me on a fundamental level. At this point, I would rather my account be deleted entirely and all of my stuff distributed to those on here who need them (if at all possible) or removed forever. It would make my day knowing that other people were benefiting from the things I've collected over these past few months. I like contributing over anything else. Welp, that's all I wanted to say. Didn't expect to end up writing an essay anyways, but that's just how these things go I suppose. See y'all never I guess... Side Note... Question?: why does the account say "permanently banned" when the login area says "locked for 20 years"? Is it basically like how a life sentence in prison is only about 42 years because the prisoner isn't expected to live that long? I was just curious. [Read more] |
