The mess hall is enormous. Gigantic, even It's bustling with activity, left and right. People are chatting, arguing, there are even a few fights going on. The professors are nowhere to be seen. It's disorganized, but it's lively. The atmosphere is friendly, and cheerful.

At the very front of all the other tables, there's one small table, with four seats. Four people are sitting there, each wearing different colored robes.

A tall man with golden-brown hair slips into the chair furthest to the right, leaning back and kicking his feet up, onto the table. He clapped loudly. The place went silent. A few swords were dropped.

"Hey, everyone!"

A few scattered 'Hey Kendo"'s ring out.

"Hey, Zach! Anyways, name's Kendo, Kendo Satou. It's good to see that everyone's so lively t'day, but we really do need to get started."

"For those of you who're new here, here's the whole schbang. I'm the Prefect of the Siren house. These lovely people beside me are the prefects of the other, less important, houses"

He laughed lightly.

"Basically, before y'got here, y'shoulda gotten a notification 'bout which house you're in. We'll be doing a whole feast thing, so get yourselves comfy. Afterward, I'll dole out some more instructions. But f'r now? Get eatin', everyone!"

He snapped. The tables suddenly cleaned themselves off, plates of food dropping from the sky.

Comfy. That was a key word for Sera. That meant sleep, and sleep she did. She passed out right on the table, not even caring about food being passed over her head. The wind chimes tied in her hair sounded very quietly as the slight wind blew through them.

Kendo laughed, as he took his feet off the table, catching a falling glass of beer. He downed it, grinning.

"Sera, didn't mean that so literally!"

He clicked his tongue, glancing over at the other prefects. Emma and Artemis were doing their whole love-hate couple thing, arguing and fighting, per usual. Jack was doing her own thing.

Jack was a proud member of House Quetzalcoatl, or as she liked to affectionately call it, House Quetzal. She had her eye on that prefect's seat, and no one would stand in her way. It was going to be a great year. The chaos she would cause for the name of experimentation...

She was planning to outdo herself.

Jack are her food daintily, hardly hiding the fact that she was subtly checking out her classmates. A lot could be learned from a person by their mannerisms.

Malcia listened with intrigue, watching the food drop from the sky. She glanced over at someone next to her; they were already sleeping, which made Malcia sleepy. Instead she ate, because she absolutely couldn't sleep on an empty stomach. She had to blow her hair out of her face on multiple occasions, for it was getting a little too long.

Sera woke up at the call of her name, chimes jingling loudly. "Sorry..." Her voice was incredibly quiet and sounded like distant bells. She stared at Kendo blankly, tilting her head. How could she be hungry with all the noise? It was sensory overload to the max.

A giggle could just be heard from one of the tables holding the students. It came from the table for House Siren. Sitting amid the others was a girl with pale white skin, lavender and grey hair, and blue eyes with black sclera. The student wore purple clothes and sandals.
Marina Von Kaimana-Reaper giggled at the antics already happening. The school year had barely started and the fun was beginning already! She happily enjoyed some food as she daydreamed about the possibilities of school life...

Amid the stoic and cold eyed (pun intended) students of House Frost Dragon, sat a new student who didn't seem to belong. The student was shy and nervous, looking around quickly but never turning her head. Her appearance was the peak example of the House Frost Dragon; snow white skin with white hair tipped pale blue, wearing a white kimono secured by a pink obi. Wearing pink Geta shoes on her feet and a pink ribbon tied in a bow on her head, the only thing that wasn't pink or white were her golden yellow eyes.
Eris Everlast was tentative in her interactions with anyone, a life of neglect and abuse taking over her demeanor. She saw the student who fell asleep at the table and winced, worried that that was a bad thing, only to be surprised when it was laughed off. She had much to learn it seemed... Either way, she began to eat...

Emi did the kicky-swinging thing with her feet as she fidgeted in her chair nervously. There were so many different types of people there. People who were socializing, people who were arguing, and more! It was like a zoo, but slightly more organized and smelling of food, rather than animal droppings.

She rechecked, making sure that she was at the right table. House... Q-what? The spelling of the name was as confusing as her life before she came to the school. She quietly tapped her fingers on the table, trying to make sense of the syllables.

Q... Quet... Zal... Co-atl...?

Emi made a small face, recoiling at the fact that she was already probably "pronouncing" the name wrong without even saying it out loud.

"Just call it House Quetzal. Rhymes with pretzel." Jack smiled at her young housemate. The face of despair for their complicated house name was more common on youner students than one might think.

"The name's Soot. Jackery Soot. I don't think I've seen you around here before..." It was a simple enough introduction. Hopefully the girl could carry a conversation.

Sera put her head on the table. How tiring... Too much noise. She'd like to be shown her dorm room- hopefully she was alone. That would leave space for her to practice.

Emi tilted her head and nodded. "I like pretzels," she said, smiling brightly. In her head, she repeated Quetzal... Pretzel... Quetzal... She mentally declared that House Quetzal would be "fun".

She stammered, "I-I'm...", but quickly gathered her composure and stated with a clear voice, "I'm Emi Uemura... It's my first year here..."

Sera looked around at the people talking, tilting her head from side to side to hear the noise of the chimes. She enjoyed doing it. There was someone there, and someone there... And people everywhere. So many people. She stood up and tried to leave as stealthily as possible. She felt nauseous.

A soft yet tired voice sounded from behind Jack. It was Shieta LaVil, who is in the same year as Jack. Shieta looked at the girl who was just 1 inch shorter than her with a tired stiff smile and reached her hand out.

Emi smiled. "Hello!" She said, still smiling. It seems as if she didn't notice the beef and rivalry going on between the two. To her, it seemed as if they were friends. Friendly acquaintances who seemed to compete against each other for fun. As if they were just doing it to entertain themselves.

Shieta turned and raised her head at Jack and stared at the other silently. The stuff smile hung awkwardly on her lips, and her gaze cast down as if she was contemplating on how she should reply.

The awkward silence lasted for a few moments before Shieta opened her mouth and replied.

"..Yes, quite pleasant I'd say. But.. what about yours? I'm surely, nothing eventful happened right?"

Shieta spoke quite languidly, not rushing or slowing down. Keeping a steady pace

She didn't quite know what was on the others mind, but as long as she didn't feel any animosity, Shieta thought it should be fine. That's the only reason why she willingly let herself approach the other in the first place.
