A mission in a world frozen [Semi-lit.]
Forum-Index → Roleplay → Inactive RPs → A mission in a world frozen [Semi-lit.]Almost tripping when the ship lurched a little again, Alon flinched at the sound of that familiar screeching feedback coming from the announcement speakers. The young lady cringed at what seemed to be like needles piercing through her eardrums, hands on her ears and all. Alon groaned, but soon softened after hearing a voice blare through the speakers.
"Well it's about damn time the captain spoke." She commented to herself as she rushed to the captain's quarters. If there is anything she could do - anything at all to help out, she would gladly offer. It would be sad to let humanity fail without giving a good fight anyway.
Alon dashed through the corridor and skidded to a stop, holding on to the door frame to keep her balance. It was then to her horror she saw the captain in a bad shape and her now alert eyes shifted to the young man holding the microphone.
Pakistan. Religious differences. Obvious stereotyping.
A wave of slight fear coursed through her body as she tried to ignore it, sending her rude racist comments to the back of her mind before her tongue fishes it out from her mouth. Right now, an urgent matter needs to be attended to and this is so not the right time to start a fight.
Of course, she still couldn't help but walk on eggshells around this guy.
"What's the plan?" She inquired firmly, finally noticing another young lady right next to her. From her looks, Alon knew she was Asian. Plus, seeing the Thai flag displayed on her proved it. Clearly, Alon does not have any problems with this one - she's not on her "imaginary scary country list." Giving the girl an acknowledging nod, she turned her eyes to look back at the man as if waiting for an order.
*** OOC: Been busy with work lately.. Sorry :( ***
A small feeling of panic and helplessness overcame Sampsa as he stood there, trying to figure out what the heck they could do to save a whole ship of people. He started to feel like they were doomed. There would be no 'untouched land'. There would be no one to unite on it. The world was going to freeze over. However, he was harshly snapped back to reality as he heard the voice from the speakers. "No oli perhana jo aikakin!"*
As he started heading towards the captain's quarters, Sampsa couldn't help wondering why it took so long for the captain to tell them anything. Moreover, the whole message was quite confusing, it spoke of urgency and was unusual. There was no instructions or reassuring in it. Sampsa didn't like the sound of it. At all.
Just a corner away from the captain's quarters, the ship tilted slightly again. It was hardly noticable but it still managed to cause Sampsa to lose his footing and crash onto the ground. While letting out a litany of curses, Sampsa got his feet under him again and walked the short remaining distance. Upon arriving, he halted in confusion. The captain was a complete mess with three other countries in his quarters: Pakistan, Philippines and Thailand. He directed his gaze at the captain again, frowning. No ei ihme, että törmättiin siihen saamarin jäämöhkäleeseen.**
*"No oli perhana jo korkea aikakin!" -'It was about damn time!'
**No ei ihme, että törmättiin siihen saamarin jäämöhkäleeseen. -'Well, it's no wonder we crashed into that damn piece of ice.'
She finally reached it, a little tired but otherwise fine. She rested briefly in the space between the wall and the doorframe. "Koroshyo! Dave'ite sdeleam eto.*" The ship wasn't completely horizontal, but Yaroslava made the best of it by using the railings. Thank goodness there are ones in the halls, too, she thought. We must not have a very good Captain. Maybe whoever's in charge of hiring should be fired.
When she arrived, the door was open. Just to make sure, she read the plaque on the wall next to it. It read "Captain's Quarters" in several languages. She recognized all of them, even if she couldn't read in them. She swiftly entered, quietly and cautiously. Good thing she was watching where she stepped, because bits of broken glass were scattered around the room. Green glass. Brown glass. What those bottles used to contain was clear to her. I see why he wanted us to come fast.... Her thoughts trailed off momentarily as she looked around the room. A number of countries had already gathered here. If they didn't need her, perhaps she could go back and try to calm the others down.

*Okay! Let's do it.
I approached them cautiously while holding the panels to keep my balance. Just as I was about to explain the whole situation and the protocols for controlling a huge ship, a guy came in and analysed the surroundings, he looked as if he were pissed at the captain, Trust me...I know the feel bro My gaze shifted to the two girls, good thing that someone with a strong back showed up, otherwise I would've committed suicide. The following countries were in the room, Philippines, Finland, Thailand and...Russia? Another person appeared just in time, Come on in ladies... I scowled and got a little closer to them. The girls seemed to be more tougher than all the guys on this ship, I pity the guts of men, scattering everywhere like miserable insects, trying to save themselves while the women keep themselves calm and contained then rush to help the other... I reached them just in time and yelled with urgency clearly visible in my voice, "Does anyone else know about the basic maneuvers to control a ship?!" I scanned the room once more and asked, "We need to contain the crowd of people outside, get as many people helping us to fix the hole on the star-board first!" Secretly I prayed that my experience on the military base would pay off right now...

*Just great! I needed a well experienced sailor and I what do I get?!
** looks like somebody saw a goddamn ghost...
Why must all men in all nations have such an altitude to us ladies? I'm not that weak, at least
"I rode a small ship here myself! Can I at least drive her away from this giant ice?" She asked him. "Maybe we need a lot of MEN to fix her up later."
*Let's consider this cruise as a she for now
Everyone needs to survive, I know this fact very well!
Now hearing Thailand's comment, Alon couldn't help but turn away a little, hiding a smile Pakistan probably knew was there. Oh yes, let all the men do the work while the ladies sit here like feeble princesses. That was a nice comeback from the fellow Asian, one that Alon would give a lot of points to. As she tried to break her eye contact from the guy, she finally saw the two people standing behind them, both that she had seen earlier: Finland and Russia. Silently, she hoped that the two have gone over their differences today. Of course, as she had already spoken to the Russian before, she gave her a small smile as a greeting.
But hey, now is not the time to wonder. There are urgent matters to attend to. With that in thought, Alon turned again to face the Pakistan man. She responded, as if adding to what Thailand has offered. "I guess that makes the two of us. I fish a lot in the tropics, oftentimes delivering goods to neighboring islands." Alon shrugged then continued. "Even under stormy clouds, we set sail. But you heard her, Thailand can get this ship off the ice then." Rushing past Sameer, Alon rummaged through the compartments to pull out a rolled map displaying ocean currents as well as a pair of binoculars. Halfway through opening the map, the Filipina stopped to glance at Sameer as if forgetting something.
"I can help her out in navigating."
When the boat swayed again, Sampsa lost his footing and found himself from the floor once again. He was getting quite tired of finding himself from the floor. He was already bruised up and sore from his previous encounters with the hard solid surface of the boat.
I looked at Philippines and frowned, hesitating to say a simple thank-you at first but managed to growl out, "Thanks for coming intime and saving all our sorry a**es, other-wise we'd be under water decorations waiting to be dug out...". After saying that the ship moved a little more, causing me to lose my balance and fall back-wards, *Hilna bas bhi kar le yar!
The two of them were enough to turn the ship around but that meant that the other three, as in me Finland and Russia were no longer needed to control the ship, but to help calm those idiotic people down town, their unnecessary movement is unbalancing the ship, causing it to rock left to right. The guy from Finland looked pissed off after seeing another girl from Russia, I stumbled close to him and suggested, "Put all the religious and other differences behind you...hate her after we get the hell out of this sinking situation"

*Could you stop moving already!
Glaring at Pakistan, Sampsa pointed at Russia behind him, "This ain't got anything to do with religion. If you knew what her country did to mine, you wouldn't stand in my way when I threw her overboard!" Of course he couldn't do that but he really wanted to. More than anything. He knew this certainly wasn't the best time to be arguing but he just couldn't stand the idea of working together with her.
((Btw, no offence to anyone.))
"I want to drive her in peace. Those who aren't in charge with this must leave!"
I frowned and looked outside the window, the people needed our support and reassurance now more than ever, time was definitely not on our side at the moment. The Finnish dude was going berserk with his hatred for the Russians, if we can't cooperate with each other to save the lives of a few people then we're in worst shape than I thought. I sighed and put my hand on his shoulder, speaking in a some-what gentle way, "Listen as much as I hate stuffing my nose up on other people's business, You really gotta put your differences aside for now"
I removed my hand and pointed to the Russian representative, "That girl has nothing to do with what her forefathers had done a really long time ago..." the fact that annoyed me was that I pretty much sounded like his grand-ma. The ship moved a little more and I felt as if the front deck had slightly risen, "She came for the very reason we took part in this goddamn mission..." I wobbled past him and held the door-frame as I parted from the group to go down to the people, "Be a man and face the fact that we'll all drown if we don't get these damn people to cooperate" than left with-out saying a word. *Mujhey lagta hai pahley mujhey thorey takre logoun to bulana ho ga...warna mei akaila nahi sambhal paun ga My plan was to get the water from the ground levels out while fixing up the damage done to the boat up the star-deck

*I think I should get together a group of buffed up guys...I can't take care of this alone...
Sampsa glared daggers at the Thai girl. 'Scared him'!? The heck is wrong with her? Besides, who the heck did she think she was, telling him what to do? He didn't take orders from girls with the mentality of a ten-year-old. If she wasn't careful he might snipe her across the globe after Russia when this all was over.
He knew everything the guy from Pakistan said was true but to tell the truth, he would rather drown than work with Russia. He was also rapidly developing hate for the Thai as well. Sampsa gave a death glare at the Thai, "Why would they send a naive idiot like you in this mission anyway?" He turned around, about to leave when he turned back to the girl, "And the ship is an it, not a damn person for god's sake." After that he turned his back to the women still in the captain's quarters and went after the Pakistani. He couldn't have possibly stayed in there without going on a murderous rampage, he needed something to do to calm himself down.
((Edit: Oh, and Sorpio: It's Finnish. :p))
She tried the most to avoid eye contact with that man and concentrated on her driving...
"And I'm apologized someone else, not you! Right, Filipino!?"
Alon was busy trying to study the currents with her fingers drumming at the surface of the map on the table, minding her own business and all, as she tried not to eavesdrop on the argument storming in the room. It wasn't in her personality to butt in, but of course, with how they were so loud and all, it gave her a hard time mapping out a route. She exhaled loudly, a hint of annoyance bubbling in her chest until someone mentioned her nationality. She immediately looked up, and saw Thailand waiting for a response. Yes, she heard everything. She did not want to be part of the argument, but unfortunately, she was expected to give out an answer.
"You're right about moving on, Thailand. It's the wisest thing to do." Trying to calm her annoyance from earlier, she took a deep breath and exhaled softly before turning her eyes at Finland. He looked really tense, scary, even, and Alon took a mental note not to get on his bad side. She softened her gaze at him. ".. But I also understand you, Finland. Maybe not as much since we both have different stories, but I know how it feels not liking to work with someone you are... Say, very uncomfortable with. She looked down for a while. Should she dare admit it? Her eyes suddenly snapped at Pakistan.
"I also have issues with other countries. Spain, for taking over our land. Japan, for slaughtering my ancestors.. Oh, and dear Lord, even the Americans put us down at some point.." She paused for a while, still keeping her eyes on the man before her before continuing. "...And Pakistan for.. Well.. There is an ongoing war between us at the south and some of your kind even managed to convert a handful of Filipinos to go and fight against us." Turing her eyes back to Finland, she shrugged.
"Like you, I am still bitter about it and it's natural that you feel that way, but let us just treat this professionally - like we are workmates under a huge company or something. You don't have to like anyone here and it's not a requirement. We are only required to work together, not make babies with the people that we utterly dislike. Okay?" Smiling, Alon managed to crack a small joke at this in an attempt to lighten up the atmosphere. The tension sure was choking her like a bad case of asthma creeping up her lungs. With this, she returned her gaze at Pakistan, almost forgetting to respond to his thanks earlier.
"You're welcome by the way." Nodding with a small, yet somewhat sad smile on her lips, she turned her attention back to the map before moving over to the controls to set up the radar, saddened that he already left even before he could receive her gratitude.
*** OOC: Lol my post is bleeding XD ***
Also, I had Sampsa already leave but let's just pretend he stayed to make it less confusing. XD))
Sampsa felt himself twitch slightly at Philippines's joke, somehow it brought him out of the blind rage and hatred. He was chosen to this mission, not that there were much to choose from, and all he did was lash out and provoke conflict. What the heck was wrong with him? He was bringing shame on his fatherland and landmen. He had called Thailand naive and childlike but wasn't he acting like a total brat himself? Simo Häyhä himself was his great grandfather, he had to be better than this.
Closing his eyes, Sampsa took a couple of deep breaths as he started to calm his breathing down. His sniper training always came in handy when he needed to wind down, if you wanted to be a good shot, you needed to control your breathing. While his breaths grew fewer in number and deeper he felt himself relax and take control of that anger seepind through his veins. He could do this.
Simo Häyhä -I haven't actually heard he had any kids but who knows. :p Not that it matters but Häyhä's actually my hero.
Looking back, she saw Finland still in the room though about to step out, but something was holding him back for some reason. A small wave of panic coursed through the Filipina's body as she tried to recall the exact words she delivered to him earlier. Boy, she hoped that she did not make matters worse by offending him more. That joke earlier was quite a sharp risk she took in an attempt to soothe things out. But oh well, it was worth a try.
However, seeing his shoulders relax a bit when he took deep breaths got her to relax a little as well. Okay, maybe that worked, and yet again, she made another mental note not to do that next time. Deep down though, she was happy that the tension was already somewhat lifted from the room.
