In the time it took to finish the conversation and start stirring, the Poffin had already been burned; however, after another minute of work, a completely catastrophic flavor was averted, and the result was a Bitter Poffin, level 6, and slightly more smooth than the other. "Why does it still not have any sweetness?" Ryu asked before pouring the batter into two small pans and putting them in the oven as well.

Ryu nervously ate his bitter Poffins. Had the Pecha and Bluk Berries done anything to any of the Poffins other than the very last two, they would have tasted considerably better, but he didn't mind because they would help him in the Contest. He saved the two that had been affected by the yummier berries, which had sweet, pink sprinkles on top, for last, wanting to make sure that he had a better taste in his mouth when the Contest began.
The twelve year old noticed a Charmeleon Gijinka looking around, and, after finishing his Poffins, went over to talk to him. "Hello. My name is Ryu. Is this your first Contest?"
