For most people, this shouldn't need any explanation, but I'll give an explanation anyway.
Basically, egg designs will show up for eggs that have them. They'll show if either one of two conditions are met which are as follows:
1. If the offspring is already for sure 100% expected to be of a Pokemon that would have a design initially (Mewtwo being a perfect example as when you breed it the offspring are always Mewtwo).
2. If the user wouldn't know what the offspring would be initially, but could possibly know it which would require the eggs to be scanned first. Perfect example being Event Pokemon breeding together as their offspring aren't 100% static offspring, and there's RNG involved to determine what their offspring could potentially be.
This means unscanned eggs will always look like a standard egg with the exception of condition 1, BUT if you scan an egg and the revealed offspring ends up being one with an egg design, then it will change over from the standard looking egg to its proper design.
But yeah, I just think this would be neat, and I don't get why it hasn't already been a thing. It could also help with providing additional visual aid to save wrong eggs from being adopted when people are doing Event chains or something of the sort.

This would help us notice those event eggs before we give them away to the Tall Grass which would kind of beat the purpose.

I'm breeding events atm again and it's just so, ugh, irritating to read, and re-read, and re-re-read every single scanned egg, as the difference in names of Slugma and Slugua is pretty much non-existent. It's super easy to miss a "Slugua" between all those "Slugma". 😬 (I can only imagine how horrible these similar names must be for people battling dyslexia.)

Previously, I did a Coocoot hunt. Since it started with C, I had no problems differentiating eggs from Hoothoot
I now regret naming the recent event Skarigami, because I've almost missed eggs twice by missing the back half of the name
