The woman caught sight of Lizzie, and her eyes went wide. She put the gun down, and went to the back of the apocotheary, shoving a shelf aside and pushing on the bricks. One of them popped inwards, and bricks began to move and slide with loud crunching noises, until a doorway was revealed. “Come with me, then,” the woman said brusquely, gesturing impatiently for him to follow her into a small, dark room only lit by the candles in holders on the wall, which she quickly lit, pulling the cover off of a cot, pulling away the boxes and gesturing again. “Put her here.”

By then, Lizzie was too weak to speak, and quickly losing consciousness. She’d lost a lot of blood already, and she was lucky that Paradox had stopped the bleeding in time. So she wasn’t aware of the woman who answered the door, skin unusually pale and hair black and frizzy. A pair of spectacles were balanced on her nose, and she looked distant and distracted, wearing a brightly colored dress embroidered with with flowers. “Oh, hello! Welcome to-” Seeing Lizzy in his arms, the woman’s demeanor instantly changed, grabbing him by the shirt and spinning him into the room, slamming the door behind him and locking it, closing the curtains. She turned to face him, a gun drawn and pointed right at him. “What are you doing with her?” she said in a low, angry voice.

Alacra reacted immeadientally, pulling him with a bit more force then might have been wise for someone who looked like they were going to fall asleep on their feet, but they had to get out of there immeadientally. Eventually, she could tell that he was veering the point of collapse, so after getting about a dozen feet from the building, she wordlessley slung his arm over her shoulder to support his wheight. The smoke loomed behind them like a savage giant, and she sped up as best as she could. The library was getting closer and closer, and Alacra could see Evan, the Chief Librarian, standing outside anxiously, his hair slicked back too much as usual, his hands waving furiously as he let terrified citizens into the library. Evan made eye contact with Alacra and rushed forward. When he got to them, he didn’t even question the strange situation, just helped her get the man into the library and down the huge flight of stairs into the vault. Once they had him leaning against the wall, all he said to Alacra was, “Glad you’re safe,” before he sprinted off to help others. The vault was filling, and fast. Alacra turned to the stranger. “We’re safe here. For now.”

"Promising," she muttered, fighting to keep her eyes open. Paradox...what an odd name. But it certainly fit with the other names of Heads of Houses she knew about. But why in the world was he an "acting head?" Aristocrats would never make any sense to Lizzie. Still, he wasn't a completely miserable person if he would do this for her. Why exactly was he doing it? Still, the important part was staying conscious until they got to Ellia. "Paradox, huh? What..you got a sister named Mortal Comptenplation and a brother named Psychology?"

Lizzie could feel her temper rising, and for a split second, it combated the dizzy feeling in her head and her overwhelming desire to lie down on the ground and fall asleep. "Yeah, Why don't you call me the one who'll shove a-" She stopped. He'd saved her life, and her own energy was draining. Lizzie would've liked to continue this argument, but she needed his help, to her disgust, to get to help. "It's...Lizzie," she forced out through gritted teeth. "And I know someone who's not...afraid of blood, and...." Lizzie found her words slurring, but at least things weren't getting worse. The aristocrat had done his work well. "She'll treat the wound. You just need to take me to the apocothary by the town square. She'll find me." Lizzie paused. "Well, I told you my name, what about you, spoiled puppy? Or would you rather that I call you pretty boy?"

Alacra was on her feet in an instant. She might have no idea what this man was doing, or what this smoke was, but she knew she had to get everyone out of here. Right Now. Obviously, this was the work of magic, and Alacra knew firsthand the devastating things it could do. Her decision was finalized when she saw those who the magic had touched, lying on the ground, eyes wide with fear as their skin turned a nasty shade of green and their limbs began to shake and twist. "Everyone out!" she roared as she ran towards the back door, yanking it open. To her relief, she could see no sign of the smoke outside. At least, for now. A few people who'd been closer to the stranger and Alacra scrambled out the door as quickly as they could. Alacra's mind raced, trying to think of a solution. Then, she realized one. "There's an underground vault in the palace library. We're not far from it, thankfully. If we-" Alacra noticed the man's exhaustion. "Grab on," she said, holding out her hand. "I can get us both there if you trust me. Though, I'm not sure if you have a choice."

Lizzie blinked hard a few times, her breathing becoming shallower. Still, she wasn't losing enough blood not to notice the man's obvious discomfort towards the situation. She grinned. "Seems like the oh-so-great pretty boy doesn't like blood, huh?" The wound didn't seem that bad, anyways. Still, despite the spinning of the room, she'd continue to make fun of him. "I really was right about you, spoiled little puppy."

Lizzie sighed, and finally relented, sitting down. "Fine," she snapped, "But only because I'm 50% percent sure I know where I can get help."

Izzy wanted to scream, but she didn't have the energy. He was proving too much of a point for her to argue, but she liked to argue. A lot. But she had no choice. "Fine," she snapped, slowly making her way down. Unfourntanetly, she didn't have a lot of handholds, so her landing was still rather rough, and she was limping as she tried to move past him, stumbling several times.

Lizzie grit her teeth, staring down at him, one hand gripping her leg, the other holding the leg as she debated her options. She didn't trust that he wouldn't just haul her to the jail the minute he caught her. Then again, he had jumped in to save her, and that wasn't something that a lot of people would do. But then he'd insulted her. What was wrong with him? She sighed. "You know I have absolutely zero reasons to trust you, right? I'm-" she winced, the pain was excruciating.

Alacra gritted her teeth. She had a feeling that this mage was up to something, but she'd won against larger men than him, she'd be able to take him. But, then again, Alacra could tell that she was losing. But she'd never been one to give up a fight easily, so she leaned forward. "This is getting…interesting,” she grunted, grinning. If he was going to use his magic, she was going to lean to her own advantages, putting all of her strength into it, muscles flexing and eyes narrowed in concentration. But what she didn’t notice was the strange, ghostly bird watching through the window of the inn, before it shrieked, bursting through the inn and flying back out, the trail of smoke it left filling the room. Alacra was so suprised she lost her concentration and was easily beat.

This was a new one for Alacra, and though she despised change, she suppose this was a welcome one. Still, she took a moment to eye the mage up and down. He didn't look like much of a challenge, still, Alacra wasn't one to underestimate her opponent. After a few more seconds of contemplation, she began to push her hand down towards the table. Around them, the other customers were starting to watch with interest.

There was a ledge in the building that Lizzie was retreating to, but it was high above her reach, and there was little chance of Lizzie reaching it in time. The short-statured thief might be fast, but she wasn't superhuman. Still, she had to try, if she was going to get herself and the pompous giant out of this situation fast. So, she sped up and took a leap. As she jumped, one of the beasts grabbed her leg, their claws gripping hard enough to rip through the leather of the boot and into her skin. Lizzie gave a cry of pain, and nearly fell back against the wall, but managed to barely grab the ledge, pulling herself free of the beast's grip. Once she was on the ledge, she pulled out her gun, shooting down the last of them, and once the final beast fell to the ground, she leaned against the ledge, exhausted.

One of the beasts snarled and stepped forward. “Duck!” Lizzie yelled, and shot the dart gun, hoping that he would be quick enough. Otherwise, that made her job a lot harder. The dart flew through the air towards one of the beasts, lodging in its side. The dart was strong enough to knock out a grown man, but all it did was send the beast stumbling back, long enough for Lizzie to rush forward. When a beast ran after her, she stopped, whirling around, and jumped. The beast snapped at empty air as she jumped onto its back, lodging the knife into its back. This was worse to it then the dart in the other, and it fell to the ground, twitching. One was still trained on the House man. “Break the pipe and take him down!” Lizzie yelled at the blue haired pain in her neck. “I can handle these ones!”

Alacra liked simple things. She was used to her life, and would never want it another way. She had her inn, her friends and family, and her old life? The one that was a bit more…complicated? It would be gone forever. Alacra was settled in this small part of Aladeraan, and she would stay there, content. So when the obvious magic-user walked through her door, she sucked in a sharp breath. Alacra had forgotten what they were like. That..oddness that surrounded them, no matter who they were, that set them apart from anyone else. She thought that she’d never see another again, after…Alacra banished that though from her mind before it went down a train that she had sworn she’d never let herself go down again. This was fine. It was fine. She could handle a magic user. Besides, he looked friendly enough. Perhaps he was just passing through.

She looked up, all of the emotions running through her head washed away, and forced herself to smile. “Now that’s not something I thought I’d hear. Most everyone’s too intimidated to take the challenge. But if you really think so…” Alacra leaned against the counter, resting her elbow on the table. “Go right ahead. Let’s see what you’ve got.”

Izzie was surprised that he was actually willing to stay. This House member was surprising her more and more, but she’d never say it. Still, she was a tiny bit grateful. Izzy may be able to face a lot of things, but this wasn’t high on the list. It didn’t change the fact that she said, “Well, you’re certainly a dog, maybe not callous. Perhaps you’d like aggravating? Smelly?” As the beasts took a few steps forward, her eyes darted around, and suddenly, she formulated a plan. “Hey, pretty boy, when I say duck, duck, alright? I know it might seem impossible, but you need to trust me, alright?”

Izzie had seen a lot of things in her life, but they’d always involved humans. Human anger, human poverty, humans who made her eat raw fish upside-down. But the only time she’d ever even heard of these things was stories. Rumors. So, she was stricken in place. Lizzie’s mind could not believe that she was actually seeing these…creatures. So she didn’t have the presence of mind to move when the beast flew at her. And she wasn’t expecting the arm that grabbed her and saved her, especially not one that was attached to the man she’d been running away from not moments before. But the moment was over. Once she landed and the man let go of her, she drew the hunting knife she kept in her boot, and the dart gun at her waist. The dart gun only had a few charges left, but the creatures were already too close for her gun. She looked to the man. He’d jumped into save her, for reasons she couldn’t explain. The least she could do was return the favor. “Thank you for the favor, but I can handle myself,” she said slowly, Izzy’s gaze darting to each creature. “I’ll clear you a path and you can get out of here. I’ll be fine on my own.” That was a lie, of course, but for one, she didn’t want to see someone get hurt, no matter how annoying and self-centered they were, and she didn’t like the idea of being in debt to someone from a House.

The Kingdom of Alderaan was a great one, to be sure. The might of their military could not be matched across Terraomnium, their population large enough that it could be its own army in and of itself. Their crops were always flourishing, their king and queen were just and good, and no one in Alderaan went without justice and a full belly. But they weren’t completely safe from trouble.

In the far edges of the kingdom, in a tiny shack that looked as if a giant had stuffed it between two far larger buildings for later use, a tiny old woman was hunched over, cross legged as she looked at the large book before her that looked just about as ancient as she did. The book’s pages were splattered with inky black words that looked like they’d been written in a hurry. The illustrations were gruesome and horrible, and equally messy, as if the artist was feeling the dread and regret of ever making these things come to life. The woman grinned, several teeth missing as her gnarled fingers stroked the page and her lips moved, the spells coming to life, letters glowing as she turned each page. The smoke in the room was starting to turn a sickly green color, slowly taking shape until it took the form of a vulture’s skeleton, eyes glowing a deep gold. “Spread your disease,” the old woman spat, though the energy had clearly left her, and she was growing weaker. “Bring them all to ruin.” The vulture skeleton shrieked, and with one flap of its wings, flew right through the ceiling, the smoke going with it.

The old woman collapsed to her knees, barely able to keep up her head. She knew that she was dying, but she had to be sure there was nothing she missed. She turned the last page and cursed. How could she be so stupid? Of course it still exsisted, as if the universe was determined to stop her plan of revenge. But she would have it, and she would have it for all of them. So, she reached into her pocket and yanked out four black spheres, and with the last of her strength, slammed them against the ground. They morphed into four hulking black soldiers whose faces were obscured by helmets, though there were still pinpricks of red. “Find…Emerald Garden..Destroy it…every last one.” In one instant, the soldier-golems nodded, and burst through the door, walking out, and the woman collapsed to the ground, her last breath wheezing out of her as she closed her eyes forever.

“Alright, enough!” the woman yelled, pushing him out of the inn. “Go take your sorry little self out on the streets, y’hear? I’ll have no more of your antics.” “But-” The man tried to get to his feet, but she’d already slammed the door shut and was walking back to the bar. Everyone had gone dead silent at the sight of her anger, but after she walked back around and slammed a glass on the table, yelling, “Free drinks for whoever can beat me in an arm wrestle,” they all went back to their conversations. The bartender was a muscular woman, over six feet tall with broad shoulders and an intimidating glare, and most of them weren’t interested in trying and failing.

Izzy glanced over her shoulder, and nearly yelled in frustration. Of course, he'd follow her, but she was hoping that he'd actually trust the town guardsmen enough to let them go after her. But no, he was going after her. So if that was how he was going to play it, she supposed she’d see just how well he knew this city. At the last moment, she ducked through an alley and leaped over a wall, crashing through the window of an abandoned building. Lizzie would lead him on a goose chase, before losing him at the town gates. Someone like him, who probably hadn’t had to do much chasing (or being chased) wouldn’t have the stamina to follow her that far. She kept going and going, climbing walls, sliding under construction, jumping over roofs. Finally, she when she wasn’t far from the gates, she stopped, shoulders heaving. He couldn’t have kept up. There was no way. Lizzie was about to leave when out of her corner of her eye, she realized the guards were dead, and she heard the growl.

Perhaps he wasn’t as much of an idiot as she’d thought. Most people didn’t look as closely at her as he did. That was such a big part of her scams that she’d come to depend on it to make these things work. But the game was up. Or was it? “Well, would you look at that,” she sighed dramatically, “I suppose you caught me. I’m done for now.” She went limp, but in three beats she’d thrown the basket in his face (a difficult thing to do considering the height size), caught some of the stolen items and stuffed them in her pockets, and stamped down on his foot as hard as she could (and despite Lizzie’s size, it was most definitely hard), ending with a twist of his arm that would force him to let go. Before any of the witnesses or even the stuffy House man could react, she’d taken off as fast as she could, ducking and weaving among the stunned crowd, though the hood of her cloak was slipping off, so that her head of curly red hair could be seen, though her short stature disguised her greatly.
