”Then that wouldn’t be me who controls these actions, but someone else. Studies regarding trainers whose memories have been stolen by Uxie have shown that attempting to remind them of such past lives have only ended in extreme distress and psychological trauma as if the subject refuses to associate themselves with their past. While none have deemed it significant enough to follow up on the subjects and determine if their daily patterns matched those of their past, I would not be presumptuous to assume that they have formed new habits and mannerisms. After all, it is memories that create a person.” Sho rattled off, citing one of the numerous papers that he had red during his border while he waited for the drugs to turn its course. He knew his theories well enough, the stacks of old and new reports that had been kept in their databases all consumed by idle hands.

“What use does a tool then have if it suddenly gains a dream, a desire? Are tools in its very nature not things for others to use for their own gain? In all of the papers and accounts I have seen, not once have they said that Jirachi has fulfilled any wishes of its own. Although it has free will, albeit very poor judgement of character, it is still a slave to others whims. Perhaps that is why it seems drawn to me, finding comfort with a fellow tool.” Sho smiled ruefully at that as Jirachi squirmed in his grasp, apparently dissatisfied with the ministrations he was giving and instead demanded he adapts. Greedy little thing. “But what would I know, I’m not the smartest scientist here who has won multiple awards and has a wealth of practical experience.”

Setchi: Rule #31 - Calamity by Fish in a Birdcage

Sho: Salvador by Flower

Calamity is just such a Setchi song, its about the fear of becoming the calamity itself, of looking into a mirror and not recognizing the person you've become. Its just very Setchi coded, he's been there done that but its happening once again with this rp :p
Sho with Salvador is also very Sho-like. Its a song of wearing masks and trying to be something while being nothing. Its just a good song that talks about trying to be something else and never changing

Seeing as the elder wouldn't be letting up anytime soon, Sho sighed and spun around to face the senior scientist directly just as the lag happened, slipping under his notice. "Very well, I'll humour you though I can't guarantee that you'll leave this satisfied." Taking Jirachi into his hands and pulling it away from its safety of fabric and darkness, he observed the pokemon with clinical indifference. According to all records, this was a regular, run of the mill, Jirachi though saying that may be slightly blasphemous seeing as there was only one. "I highly doubt that it would see something in me that even I wouldn't know. After all, isn't it the nature of all living creatures to be beings of thought? Cogito, ergo sum, is that not correct? I think, therefore I am. Whoever I am if the thought doesn't cross my mind doesn't exist. Whoever I was beforehand is dead and here stands Hoshirube Sho who murdered them with cold indifference."

He shrugged, gently stimulating the Jirachi's stomach right over the slit that held its third eye. Could it perhaps be coaxed into opening before its time was appropriate? Was the wish granting powers truly dwelling in the eye or did it come from the tags as some reports spoke of? Hm, all questions that could wait as other projects took precedence. "As for wishes... what use is a tool with desires of his own? I'm sure you could have more uses for such a frivolous thing than I."
Gligar sat down at Setchi's feet and grinned almost mischievously as he held a belt full of pokeballs in his claws. Pleased chitteres left his mouth as Setchi slowly unfroze and reached forward to take the pokeballs from his grip. "What... what are these?" He asked looking over them. They didn't look like medals or any of the power bracers that they had used before but when he looked up at Ting-lu, the large deer only bent down to touch its nose against one of the balls. "They are tools, think of them as small worlds that you can keep us in. For easier transportation." It explained with a docile tone, nosing along his shoulder to calm him down from the earlier fright. "It won't hurt us and is a common tool used among people in this world." Setchi only hummed slowly, trembling hands nearly dropping the belt as he clipped it around the overalls that had seen so much.

"I don't like them... Can I just keep you out of it?" He asked as his voice hid the shaking of his heart. He had been trapped before, stuck in a form that had become his over the long drag of time and Darkness. He never wanted anyone to live through such loneliness again, the pain and fear that came from isolation a sickening rock that sat deep in his stomach. "I think I like it just like this." Leaning backwards, he tentatively rested his weight against Ting-lu's flank almost sinking into the sturdy warmth that it provided.

"Of course. We can stay like this." The legendary agreed almost indulgently.

"If you want a discussion, then talk with Zaria. As a tool, I could hardly engage in an adequately stimulating battle of words." Sho dryly replied, printing out another series of papers as the old printer beside the door spat out its contents. General reports of Sho's own observations of what had happened just now along with the data he had on his own physical health were bundled in the reports. Data points such as his resting heart rate, brain activity, time elapsed, and other numbers crunched into a nauseatingly complex mess of ink and figures. Really, all it showed was that in terms of Sho's physical health was perfectly fine. Though his heart rate did seem a little off but if a little abnormality for the sake of science was the price of the sake of advancing their own goals. "I'll capture the Jirachi and hand the ball over later for "The Eyes" to look over, I don't want it. At the very least if it gets loose, you'll know where it is." With a sigh, Sho gently poked Jirachi again.

He didn't get it, why would it choose him of all people. Again, as Quentin pointed out, there were much better options rather than him. Alchemist was smart, Ears was resourceful, he was just another empty vessel filled up with science and drugs. Wishes? That was a laughable dream.

"Quentin. What use would a tool have for another?" Sho cocked his head slightly, resisting the urge to rub his arm. Unlike the elder scientist's opinion of him, Sho quite liked the other. He just ignored him most of the time without a single glance at him which suited Sho quite fine. He preferred to be ignored over being scrutinized and put under a microscope despite his duties as a lab subject. Besides, if what the other scientists have said were true, then it would be better to stay out of his interest. "If "Eyes" has a better use for it then I do not object. I will inform "Eagle" and any other security personal of this breach as well." Turning his back to the others as he sat down at his desk to start drafting up that email, he didn't care to see that Jirachi was wiggling furiously in Emika's grasp. A silver sheen glittered across the ledgendary's head as it headbutted "The Ears" in one unexpected Iron Head before skittering away the moment her arms loosened.

Darting around, Jirachi sought shelter in Sho's lap, burying its face into his thick jacket as it attempted to bury itself in the voluminous fabric. It was clear that even if Sho wanted nothing to do with it, Jirachi clearly had favourites.

"Huh. Disappointing. It would have been much more interesting if this was simply a hallucination." Sho sighed, walking further in to crouch in front of the legendary. "Such a drug would have perhaps proved useful against troublesome subjects and an interesting data point. I have no use for such a research topic. Would you like to take this one or should I find some use for it?" He reached out to take the legendary into his arms, gently bopping its nose almost affectionately before holding it by its head and shoving it towards Emika. Sure, having an omnipotent wish granting legendary was fun and all but he much rather make his miracles through hard work. Jirachi would live a listless life full of catering to another's whims another cog in the grand machine and living an existence so similar to Sho's own. Fitting, he supposed, for a creature that had chosen him as its representitive.

"I'm sure you can find your way to my office." Sho snarked back, impassive face only twitching slightly as he turned on his heel and strode towards his lab. He didn't really care about her opinion but at least he had some assurance that he hadn't completely lost his mind. While he didn't care about other's opinions of him, he knew that it was already negative and scathing, he did like to make sure once in a while that he was still sane. Ah, but that meant that for some reason that this Jirachi really did want him to save the world. A laughable request, he was the furthest thing from a hero and even he who had no thoughts or dreams of his own could recognize this. A fancy tool that enjoyed deluding himself with thoughts of humanity. What could a husk holding the will of others do for himself anyways, no wish could be granted if there wasn't one to begin with. This was just one pain after another, Sho didn't have the patience or willpower to do anything about.

Though he did make sure to bend down and pat the Mimikyu on the head gently, praising it for its good work. Pokemon were nice, they deserved nice things in his opinion. Much nicer than humans at the very least and Mimikyu was just objectively adorable. He liked cute things, and the ever present guard dogs that patrolled the labs and kept them all safe definitely fell under that category for him. But alas, even cute pokemon couldn't take his mind off the fact that the moment he nudged open his office door, his Metang whipped its head around looking almost guilty as it squished the Jirachi (who was still there so probably not a halucination?). A mournful click and whirr filled his mind as Sho sighed and waved it off. Whatever.
Startling at the ledgendary god's speech, Setchi shied away. Why were they all talking as if it was a forgone conclusion that they would all be helping? Why did they always make decisions for him? He didn't want this, not again. He flinched as the cherish ball nudged against his boot as if it had burned him, burying himself further into Ting-lu's fur by accident. "Peace, child." The ledgendary rumbled, broad snout coming down to nudge gently at his shoulder. "Allow us to be your companion, let us help. You will not carry this burden alone, nor will you replace any of your family. Allow us to assist if nothing else." It advised, sounding almost amused as a chitter was the only warning he got before a bat like creature divebombed him. Perhaps not the best thing to do to a traumatized boy as it only made him clam up in a frozen mess.

When Sho had went to seek out another pair of eyes, he certainly didn't believe that he would run into the direct extention if The Eyes herself, The Ears. While Emika wasn't exactly his first pick for this predicament (no one was), he at least trusted her to be as objective as possible. Besides, she would know all this and more by the time the day would end with how far her information network ran. Really, he was saving himself the trouble of having this almost mortifying experience be broadcast to the higher-ups in a manner beyond his control. Now, all that was left was to deliver his request in a suitably proper manner. "Ears." He greeted just as coldly, wishing that his Metang was here to at least give emotional support. At least it would babysit the Jirachi in case it really turn out to be real. "... How to say this, I am, as some of our co-workers like to say, tripping absolute balls."

Nailed it.

"Allow me to explain. I'm sure you're more than aware that today was yet another test after last week's less than stellar results. It appears that this particular concoction they have given induces quite vivid hallucinations to the point where I am unable to discern unreality. Now why am I telling you about this, you may ask. Simple. Though the border of fact and fiction remains thin currently, I have seen something that may prove useful to you. See with unclouded eyes if it is true and it is yours to use as you please. If it proves to be naught but a creation of my deranged mind, then we have a new potential weapon drug on our hands."

Raising an eyebrow at the antics, Sho wasn’t sure what to think. Considering that it had interacted with a object that he knew was real and not illusion, it did prove that this legendary was indeed a real physical creature. But then again, talking about saving the world was almost so far fetched that he was willing to just go get himself checked out by a third party. Psychology wasn’t exactly the area of study that any of his co-workers engaged in considering that they were more interested in the bio-chemistry side of science but he presumed that some people would at least be able to tell him if he was going crazy or not.

Though, now that he thought about it, he was pretty sure anyone would leap at the chance to call him crazy. He wasn’t exactly well liked by his peers for stealing all the live test subjects.

What an impasse he had found himself stuck in. His options were also limited as he was quite sure that The Eyes already knew what was transpiring. After all, there was nothing that their boss didn’t know. But as The Heart, he was impulsive. He wanted what he did and took it without remorse or thought for others. And at this moment, well his desire was to study this anomaly just a bit more. Reaching out, he gently grabbed one of the silk tassels, running his fingers over the soft cloth. It certainly felt like satin velvet, textured yet smooth as he released the appendage to hum over it. Physical touch could also be a part of it, he would need a second pair of eyes. Turning around, he strode out of his office with a purpose to see if any of his co-workers would entertain the mad ramblings of a deranged test subject

Anger, fear, the smell of old growth forests and the petrichor that lingered after the first rains, a diurge of the foolish and the salvation that arrived on earthen bowls of destruction. Flinching away from a cold nose that gently nudged him, Setchi shied away from the giant deer like monster that had approached him. "Lord Ruinator..." He whimpered as the unfamiliar title slipped from trembling tongue, cowering as he faced the full brunt of a ledgendary's almighty presence. "Surely you couldn't possibly mean that you've chosen... Me as your emissary." A strangled laugh wormed out of his mouth as he looked away with pursed lips. He wanted out. He didn’t want to be here any longer than he needed to. He felt much too trapped as an unknown creature bracketed him with it’s indomitable presence, breath coming out in short bursts of panicky staccato hiccups.

"I don't want to die again." He whispered, backing away from Ting-lu, looking almost apologetic. "I won't be used again. I won't be another pawn for a game that I don't understand." A low mournful bray rumbled deep in the creature's chest as Ting-lu leaned forward to gently butt heads with its chosen companion, only narrowly missing when Setchi froze up on instinct. A creature as large as the Ruinator only brought memories of Heartless that used to bully him both when he welded the Light as an extension of his own heart as well as when Darkness had replaced the heartbreak with virtuous wrath. Neither memory particularly left anything but bitterness on his tongue, the emotions that clouded his experiences leaving nothing but old scars unremembered

Setchi couldn't quite catch the emotions that danced across the giant's empty eyes but the rumbling voice that seemed to speak directly into his mind certainly had him paying attention. "Listen well, young warrior. I am not Ira, nor am I Envi. I am Ting-lu, a creature of ruin and god of none. Be my proxy and only you will be under my care. Do not doubt my protection, those who would dare take what is mine will face ruination."
Imputing his hallucinatory data into the database, Sho pushed away from his computer. While he logically knew that the hallucination of Jirachi was a fabrication image his mind had conjured up as a side effect, he still stepped around the illusion to be courteous. Nearby, the printer whirred as it spat out sheaf after sheaf of paper that Sho would have to hand into management , a tedious but no less important aspect of being an dubiously ethical scientist. Some of it contained data on the experiments he himself had conducted on himself and others while others were of data pertaining to his own vitals. While it was possible to just hand them in via email or other electronic means, Sho just preferred the old fashioned way. Technolog Was confusing as it was already and the trip to and from other offices would do some good for his physical health. Gossip as well, could always prove useful as long as one kept their ear to the ground.

He felt like he couldn’t breathe

This couldn’t be happening

Not again

Shaking his head back and forth with a dawning horror that he had been brought back to life, recompleted with the sick and twisted purpose of having to go through all that trauma again, Setchi took a step back nearly bumping into a few of the other gathered sacrifices. He didn’t want this, he didn’t want to go through the pain and agony again. He wouldn’t be led astray by another god claiming to want children to save the world. He wouldn’t. Not again. Never again.

But first, he had to get out of here. Before it was too late and he would be dragged into another death trap
Staring at Jirachi, Sho turned back around to plunk in data. “Hallucinogenic… Auditory and visual… cognitive impairment within an hour of injection…” he muttered as he typed, logging in the adverse side effects of the new drug that had replaced his blood. Not uncommon considering the nature of their job and their current obsessions, but it wasn’t ideal. What was weird for Sho was that the illusion took the form of a legendary wish grantee, the complete and utter antithesis to Sho himself. Saving the world, that was what he was already doing, channeling his research into the creation of new Pokémon species. Ones that would better the world in every way that could be imagined. Perhaps that was what this hallucination was, a reflection of his deepest desires taken physical form. An odd way of going about it but Sho knew that his coworkers were all nutcases. Even the sane ones.

For a moment, it was like looking into a mirage of a past hazily remembered. Foretellers who had promised them all a world free of suffering alighting upon their union with talks of heroism and grandeur that all children (for that what they were, children no older than 15 all chasing an impossible dream) could only whisper under thin sheets and candle light. Already, he was on guard as the golden deity seemed so much like Ira, the unpleasant memories of a life short lived sitting on his tongue. Everything was just much too similar that he couldn't help but be thrown into the past of a time long past. "I don't think I like where this is going..." He murmured, shying away from the monsters that didn't quite look like heartless yet still set unease deep into his soul. While he wanted so badly to be optimistic and think that this time it would be different, some things just never left fragmented memories.
Reclining in his chair, Sho rolled out stiff shoulders as he typed away. Experiment 2232 was a failure, a pale imitation of the stories of old. None of the subjects could handle the power that came with the direct splicing of Legendary DNA into their genome, mutations and unexplained illnesses cropping up. He suspected that even if the test subjects had lived past the first few days, there would be more complications that would occur as long as their bodies wouldn't be compatible with the DNA. Sighing, he ran a hand over his face as he stared at the failure staring right back at him with the buzz of electricity and crackle of static. It had never been ideal but that was just what science was. One step forward and three backwards. Nothing lost is nothing gained. The sound of a his office door opening had him sending a quick prayer to the heavens for patience and tranquility. "It's only manners to knock before entering." He called, leaning back forward to plunk in his data. Empirical numbers would prevail, it always would.

When no one answered, he sighed and spun around to pin the interloper with a dead stare. Only to face a pokemon that he had definitely just been researching about, floating there almost menacingly. At least to Sho. Really, Jirachi was just floating there, curiosity dripping off its form as Sho gripped his own pokeball in anticipation. Metang wasn't a pokemon used to battle, just another tool for him to use in his experiments, but well there was an intruder in the labs. That was more than enough reason for him to battle

Kishi... moto? Not Skuld? Leaning forward, he sniffed a few times, letting his eyes close as he let the scent tell him their story. Instead of familiar starlight and smell of magic pride that had branded itself into Skuld's skin, he instead could feel notes of the wild plains and fields, of heavy forests and the smell of pack seeping deep into her skin. Almost immediately, Setchi visibly wilted, wide grin falling into the smallest of pouts, rimmed eyes beginning to water. "Sorry... I... I really thought... I'm sorry..." Holding his hands close to his chest, clawed nails digging into the meat of the skin, he glanced over at the boy with silver hair. He let his feet carry him over to Sirius and he peered at the face that looked so familiar. A quick sniff gave him the smell of fresh sunlight, of stars streaking through the sky and exploding into ephemeral beauty for a once in a lifetime show, of comfort and warmth. But even though the smell aligned with his hazy memory of a boy who once promised him the world, who held his corrupted heart and ate it with glee much as he had as well, Setchi couldn't smell it.

"You... you're not Ephmer either... are you?" He wondered out loud, smile still present on his face though drowned in grim acceptance.

The monotone whine of the too bright lights against white walls was white noise to Sho as he sat stock still. The pinprick of a needle being inserted into the crook of his elbow didn't even phase him anymore as he stared at the shapeless walls. Experimental drugs slowly filled his empty veins, the painful push of liquid filling up every inch of his hollow body negligible and unremarkable. Last week's modifications hadn't turned out to be of any help so it was only to be expected that this vessel would be scraped clean and reset for the next cycle. Though the burn of fluids pushing his limbs into weird positions jostled the IV more than need be, frustrating Sho more than a little bit. All these years and still he couldn't handle these routine tests. How annoying, how disappointing. He would have thrown such a defective subject long ago if such a pain was present in his own tests. A wonder how it hasn't happened yet.

Finally the needle was slipped out and Sho stood up with a stiff bow. Next week he would find himself in this nondescript room once again as the results of this concoction would be put the test. With a sigh, he rolled his stiff neck out and wandered out into the winding corridors of the lab. There were whispers abound as always, people who Sho had known his whole life streaming past him and chattering about energy signatures and whatnot. The brush of fur against his leg had him stepping to the side as a familiar umbreon slipped through the throng of meandering staff and facility personal and Sho only had a quick moment to gently pet the pokemon that seemed to always patrol the maze-like halls before continuing on his way to his own lab. The soft strum of the guitar from one of the offices had him pausing for a moment but he quickly continued on his way when the twang of the strings transitioned into hollow whistling. Music was nice but he much preferred instruments over the painfully human noise that joined in its artistry.

It was a pain that his own lab was located so far away from the medical areas and closer to where they kept experiments. Something about him still being one of their freak projects while still being a scientist on their payroll or another, an inane excuse that Sho couldn't care much about. It just meant that he could run as many tests and experiments on as many subjects as he wanted with fresh bodies so close to him. But today, he would simply fill out the mundane forms and paperwork that would be expected of someone who did dubiously ethical science. They were villains, not monsters who didn't have a proper filing system
Sitting up with a gasp, a teal haired kid that looked like he couldn't be any older than 14 sprang away a chitter sitting low in his throat. He didn't get too far, a body he hadn't spent almost two centuries in much more foreign than the Darkness he had lived almost his whole existence in. Tripping over legs too long and hands too small, the kid went skidding along the ground with noises that certainly didn't sound very human despite appearances pointing to the contrary. It was almost a little funny how he just stayed on the ground for a few second, golden eyes blown wide with confusion and shock, brain struggling to process what was even happening. Gingerly picking himself up, Setchi gazed at his skinned hands with an almost rapturous wonder, examining his body as if it was the first time he had ever seen it. "I'm.... I'm alive." The wrecked croak pulled itself forth from his throat, a sound that even surprised Setchi himself. It had been so long since he had last even spoken, words so foreign yet bittersweet sitting heavy on his tongue.

Suddenly, he whipped his head up and scanned the gathered people around. No one he could recognize... all strangers. Were they other keyblade wielders who had been restored? The cave didn't seem familiar, belonging to a world that he had never collected lux from, but that didn't worry him very much. A flash of black and silver hairs so familiar had him perking up, any trepidation from before gone in an instant as he bound over to Kishi in a blur of golden teal excitement. "Skuld! You're alive, you're alive you're alive, you made it out! Thank the Star Stream, I don't know what I would have done if any of you hadn't, but Ephmer is here too so all we need to do is find Ventus, Lauriam, and Brain and we'll all be fine! No more Darkness, no more weird data worlds, no more Dandelions. Just us and the vast wide world that we can explore to our hearts content!" He barreled on, grabbing her hands and shaking them up and down with barely contained excitement even as his voice rasped and scrapped against his ruined throat. His wide toothed grin showed off fangs perhaps a big too big for comfort that seemed to struggle to fit in the small cavity, sharpened and primed to rip apart flesh the moment it sank into its prey.

It didn't even occur to him that he may have the wrong person

For the legendaries, I really built the characters first before picking the legendaries. Setchi was easy, he has a strong earth theme. If anyone knows anything about Kingdom Hearts, his name and story follows the per-established name theming of canon pretty strongly so having Ting-Lu a Ruinator as his legend was just a no-brainer especially fear is a huge part of his character arc. He's my keykid OC which is just no fun at all so he's just going through the wringer, poor kid

Sho was a little harder as Palkia seemed to be his perfect fit. He's basically a cosmic octopus in his hero form so it would be perfect but unfortunately both Dragon and Water were already taken so I settled with Jirachi. In canon, its stated that he was once someone with dreams so big that when he went to chase them, he lost himself in the process and was picked up by a hero group to come into their fold. So I wanted to go with a different route where the "villains" pick him up instead. A wish granter with someone who has no dreams or wishes of his own, what a quaint partnership, no? But both are just vessels for another person's machinations

As outlined in the backstory, Sho doesn't really think of the scientists as bad guys. He just wants something to do and being in a lab is really all he knows. He just made the switch from being a subject to being a scientist.

Rolling his eyes at the theatrics, Seraph let himself think. For some unknown reason, this Logic person wanted him on this ragtag team. Even if they were looking for a healer, Seraph’s skill set wasn’t all that attuned to that sort of work. He only really knew what injuries needed to be healed, where to find and grow herbs, and that was it. His Skill Tree only went so far in the healing department, the rest was just hard work and dedication to the craft. With another, obviously more talented healer who had actual abilities attuned to the work already on the team, it rendered Seraph more than a little obsolete.

The truth of the matter was, despite all the talk, they didn’t truly need him from an objective standpoint.

But He Who Blooms Spidering Lillies, despite it all, was curious. If they could tear into the root of the problem, then his endless wandering would come to an end. He could live out his quaint fantasies he had deluded himself with eons ago. He could finally find the time to grow his own flowers from seed, harvesting and laying them out on graves of friends long gone, live the life free of war as they had all dreamed of. He was the only one left, after all.Mother seemed to purr in agreement, her approval of his direction in life a warm weight in his chest. Well, if he could at least try and bring about that far off future that had only ever appeared in long forgotten dreams, then…

“Well I guess tagging along won’t be that bad, even if for all your flattering words it doesn’t hide that I am the expendable one. ” He admitted, smiling ruefully. “I go by many names, Satoshi, -Ares, He Who Blooms Spidering Lillies, but for the contract please call me Seraph. I’ll be in your dubiously capable hands, Logic.”

Rolling his eyes at the royal's response, Twayn waited for Rei to rush out of the room before turning a gaze onto the still distracted princelings. It would be so easy, he mused as he slid his swords free with a lazy swing of the blades. Twirling them around contemplatively, he wondered how far he could go before he would be stopped. Probably pretty far, he reckoned. Beastfolk were notoriously stubborn, refusing to stay down even after defeat, and he knew his own power well enough. It would be so easy... but no. No, he wouldn't. Not yet at least. There were still things that had to be done before he could live up to his title

And if someone ever questioned his presence here, well a good knight should protect his master like a good little doggie, right? For now, he could smell that the situation was under control so far. He just felt safer with their back properly protected
