With a scream of anguish Shadowslayer leapt at Saviour and tore at any part of her she could reach: scales; wings; horns and claws, nothing was safe from the frenzied attack. The wild assault ended long after Saviour’s last breath left her mutilated body. A feeling of grief overcame Shadowslayer and she tried to shake it off. Then she realised. She was feeling sad, not sorry. Sadness could be tolerated, she decided, but not remorse. Shadowslayer’s talons were dripping with Saviour’s blood, and she decided to wash it off as to not look suspicious.

With the imminent danger dealt with, Aurora tuned to her sister. Shine’s scales were deathly white, and her eyes were screaming out for help.

“You know your father...” Saviour started.
“Yes?”
“Well, he was...”
“What?”
“Ummm a...”
“JUST TELL ME, MOTHER!”
“A RainWing.”
Shadowslayer stared at her mother in disbelief.
“He never knew about it. I thought it best to keep it secret.”
“A RainWing... was my FATHER. A RAINWING??!!!”
“Yes,” came her mother’s calm reply.

Before Shadowslayer could leave for the meeting, she was intercepted by her mother, Saviour.
“Where are you going, young dragoness? You need to do your homework.”
“I’ve done it already.”
“Well, that doesn’t explain where you’re going.”
“To a meeting. Of Pure NightWings.”
Saviour sighed. “I need to tell you something, Shadow.”

Shadowslayer sat down- this was obviously going to be a long story.

“EYE-MASK? BEFORE THE NEXT BRIGHTEST NIGHT, PLEASE??!!!” Aurora roared.

Description: An ambitious dragon who looks like a NightWing, but the scales lining her underbelly can change shade. They’re not very useful. She thinks it’s just a trick of the light. She believes that ‘pure’ dragons are the only ones that should survive, and detests hybrids. She loves to fight and because of her RainWing half, her claws are unusually long and sharp for a NightWing (compare the images in the books). She has green eyes, and although she never realised it, she can spit paralysing venom. She now works for Doomhunter.
Personality: bold, ambitious, susceptible to sudden anger (like Spider but less dangerous... OR IS SHE?). She never feels remorse.

“Waterstrike, Sunpelt (making up NPC warriors to fill in the gaps), Littletail and Birdpaw, you can go hunting wherever you want. Ripplepelt, Sparrowfall, Redleaf- go on a border patrol on the (OceanClan?) border. I will go with you. The fresh-kill pile is pretty well stocked, so the rest of you can either go on a border patrol or stay here.” Snowfall felt satisfied with the patrols.

The Twolegplace was in the area Snowfall’s patrol was going past, so she wanted to see how Hail was going.

Mantidfly felt nothing. It was all dark inside her captor. Suddenly, she saw light, and heard the wind. She watched her surroundings change from a flesh-coloured magenta to a blur of colour to the grass beneath her and pitcher plants all around. It took her a while to process this. Finally, she realised, *I’m free!*

Crystalline watched as the yellow and black dragon catapulted across the clearing to land on a patch of grass. She rushed to their side and realised it was a dragonet. They were limp and unmoving, although their eyes were open. “Is it too late?” she wondered aloud.

Ignoring the cries of her companions (are they my friends?), Crystalline raced into the jungle to follow the sound of screaming.

Mantidfly shivered with disgust at the slime covering her body. She tried to fly out of the plant, but spines on its walls pointed downwards, preventing her from escaping. With horror, Mantidfly realised that she couldn’t feel her tail! The goo in the Pitcher was rising, trying to drown her.

Crystalline entered a clearing surrounded by Pitcher Plants. The roaring was loudest here. “Hello?” She called.

“Hello?”
A dragon was nearby! Mantidfly waved the only part of her body she could still control, her right talon, in the air.

Aurora raced through the trees, trying to remember the path to her childhood home. When she reached the tree cabin, she called, “Mother? Shine?!”
The house was empty. Had they been taken already? A letter lay on the table, and Aurora remembered Shine telling her at one of their forbidden meetings that Lyrebird, their mother, wrote a letter every week to their father, Blizzard, even though they couldn’t be sent. She touched the ink mournfully, and realised that it was still wet. *I could still save them!*
She rushed outside, and crashed into a light blue dragon. “Watch where you’re goi...” she started, before embracing the offender. “SHINE!!!” Her sister was there in the scales. “It’s been so long!”
“You’ve grown so much!” Shine shrieked.
“So have you!” replied Aurora.

A cloud slowly drifted past the sun and the sudden cold woke Crystalline. A cold wind began to blow and her acute hearing picked up the strange sound once again. No longer drowsy from the sunshine, Crystalline realised what it was. *A dragon is in danger!*

Mantidfly stared uncertainly at the plant in front of her. She had been assigned to guard the Poison Jungle and NOT TOUCH ANYTHING, but the plant oozing in front of her was just ASKING to be touched. A nice smell wafted towards her, and she leaned forward, sniffing, and toppled, headfirst, into the oversized Pitcher Plant.
