"Just playing Uno." Quinn smiled at Katie. Felix started to open his mouth, probably with some sarcastic remark, but she flicked him and his jaw snapped closed. "Charlie. Your aura says curious but nervous. What's on your mind, kid?"

(Sure. Also thanks @greg I'm too awkward to do it myself.)

"Candytuft and Sydney are coming to pick up Chen around eight, by the way," Felix said as he tapped his fingers on the table. He was leaning over Elin's shoulder, looking at his cards and occasionally taking bites of his salad. "Also, apparently they're having another discussion tomorrow that we should probably go to. I don't trust Candy to keep from punching someone. Again."

"Sounds like something to talk about in the morning." Quinn pulled out a chair on the other side of Elin, stealing a piece of lettuce from Felix's bowl. She talked through a mouth full of food. "So, while we have the time. Any questions we haven't answered yet, newbies?"

"Sure," Mirror replied, as Elin cursed under his breath. "Although it may be a bit. Uno tends to have varying gameplay lengths. I'm Mirror, by the way. It's nice to meet you." He smiled, a bright, genuine smile. Then, he glanced at Elin, who pretended to be incredibly focused on his cards. Mirror's gaze narrowed, smile fading, and he went from sweet to slightly menacing in a few seconds. "Elin Kau Tsuji."

"Alright, alright. I'm Elin." His voice was barely loud enough to be heard, but not too soft that someone would have to ask for him to repeat it. He liked to think of it as a sort of perfectly crafted art form.

"Oh no, no, no. Let me cut you off right there," Ten said, shaking his head. "I can't have a bunch of inexperienced... children? People. Going out with me on a hunt. Do you realize how disastrous that could be? You could become poisoned, or lose a limb, or - I dunno - be eaten by the wild assortment of monsters roaming on the outskirts of this town. I've seen people meet some seriously gruesome ends firsthand because they didn't know what they were doing. You'd just get in the way."

Lee hummed, then said, "They can come is they want. You've got Carnation trapped, right? Plus, it's the middle of the morning. Very few monsters will be out, and if there are some, they'll be the mellow type. Don't worry so much, kid." She patted his head, like he was a small child she was attempting to calm down.

"Fine. Fine. It's not like I'm the experienced one or anything. It doesn't matter." He pushed her hand away and stormed out, muttering something about finding what he needed.

"She doesn't belong here. She's already starting to starve, and if she was a weaker willed wyvern, she would've stooped to killing the poor souls trapped here. No, I'm going to try to get her home." Ten's face softened slightly as he talked about her. He hated thinking about what would happen if he couldn't send her somewhere safer. If she was really his Carnation - though he refused to get his hopes up - she wouldn't attack anyone. She'd just get thinner and thinner, hungrier and hungrier, until she was gone entirely. It made him feel sick. Wyverns were such gentle giants, it was hard to see them in pain.

(Everyone went upstairs to a living room/kitchen area where Mirror, Elin, and Chen - a demon-like creature - are all playing Uno. There were a few extra introductions and stuff. Nothing super important or big.)

Before Quinn can answer, Chen does for her. "Usually, demons are pretty mean. But Candy says I'm not 'cause I'm special." He smiled again, looking down at the cards in his hands. "I don't feel special, though. I mean, if everyone's unique, then no one's really special, right? Because everyone's special, which makes it normal." He paused, shrugged to himself, and placed down a yellow seven. "Uno."

"Chen doesn't live with us, he just hangs out sometimes," Quinn said. "And, trust me, you'll see much odder things roaming the halls than a five foot demon prince with the mental age of either five or fifty. So it's best to get used to it now." She patted his hair once more, fondly. Obviously, she cared about him a lot.

"Okay, well, caught is the wrong word. I've sort of trapped her and implanted a tracker in her chest. Or her neck, couldn't tell," Ten replied, frowning. He took Lee's cup, stole a sip, and handed it back to her. For a moment, he paused, like he was processing, then he continued. "Wyverns are a subspecies of dragons from the outer reaches of the Elysiel system. Tree-climbers are specifically from the underwater, or 'blue,' forests of RW-183. They're known for being the most intelligent breed of wyvern, able to learn other languages, remember faces with deadly accuracy, and form lifelong bonds with people. They do all look the same, however, so you can never know if your dealing with one you know unless they're marked or claimed. Sufficient answer?"

Lee threw up her free hand and started, "Woah, it's not that big a deal, dud-"

Ten's voice from upstairs interrupted her. "Oh mY FRICKIN' SILVER STARJINX. I DID IT! I ACTUALLY DID IT!" A laugh followed, short and tinged with a little evil. There was a tone to his speech that suggested excitement, but considering his personality, that didn't seem possible. Ten ran down the stairs and turned the corner, a spark in his normally bored or annoyed gaze. "Grab your stuff, Lee. I caught ourselves... wait for it..." He paused, taking a breath, closing his eyes, obviously being dramatic. "A tree-climbing wyvern."

"You can't be serious. No, really, you can't be serious. I though you've been trying to track it for, like, a few weeks now." Lee took another sip and rubbed her eyes, as if she wasn't awake enough for this conversation. "You even named it and everything. Carnation, right?"

"Okay, yeah, she evaded me for a while. But I set up heat-tracking cameras instead of night vision ones and it made all the difference. Thank the stars for my lack of sleep last week. Now, all we have to do is catch her." Ten replied.

"Hey, dude," Lee said, refilling her coffee with ease that only came from repetition. She glanced at Michael, taking a long drink before continuing, as if thinking about her next words. "If you really want energy drinks, I can get them for you. It's not that hard." Which wasn't a lie or false hope in the slightest. All it would require was a note slipped under a door or an early morning outing.

"Nah, he sets traps and sensors for all sorts of monsters. But he has a lot of audio set up, so sometimes you'll hear random screaming or noises. It's usually fine," Lee said, sipping some not of her coffee.

Chen blinked at Doyle with eyes that were completely teal - no whites or pupils, just an ocean of blue-green. "I'm Chen," he said, flicking his thin tail with a triangle-shaped point. His smile faltered slightly when he saw Doyle's expression, and he looked back to Quinn, as if seeking comfort.

"Chen is a demon prince. The only demon prince," Quinn replied, smiling at Chen before shooting Doyle a discreet glare.

The glass staircase led up to a little area that looked sort of like a mash between a living room and a kitchen. A few chairs and a couch were arranged around a TV on the wall, and a few feet away there were cabinets and a fridge. It was very clean, but it you could still tell people lived there. A couple thick, well-worn books sat on the coffee table next to a large Starbucks cup. Felix, Elin, Mirror, and an unidentified... creature were sitting at the dining table, an Uno box planted in the middle. Felix was the only one without cards. The unidentified creature glanced up at Quinn reached the top and grinned. "Quinnie!"

"Hello, Chen," she said in reply, patting his fluffy, tawny gold hair like he was a good dog. She made sure to avoid the two dark blue horns, though. He didn't seem to mind. "Are you guys playing Uno? I thought you had a test to study for, Elin?"

"I studied," Elin replied, shortly and quietly, drawing a card without looking.

The basement door opened again silently and Ten came out, rubbing at the three fading rings on his neck with one hand and holding an almost full jar of Nutella. "Here, Nutella," he said, setting it on the counter. "I'm going to go check my traps. If you hear screaming, it's not your problem." He poked Lee's shoulder before walking back upstairs.

"Okay. Don't be stupid. Thanks for the Nutella!" Lee called after him.

"Just, like" Lee makes a swooshing motion with her arm. "shadow your way through there. If I go back into darkness this early I'll probably fall asleep where I'm standing."

"Fine, I'll be right back," Ten practically hissed. Muttering to himself, he opened the basement door and, despite his obvious anger, closed it behind him quietly.

"It means if you say something the castle doesn't like, it'll try to make your day as difficult as possible. Especially try to hold your tongue around paintings, you'll never hear the end of it otherwise," Quinn replied, reaching a narrow spiral staircase made entirely of thin glass. She started up it as if it was no big deal.

"That was actually one of the first things Elin, one of my friends, did when he got here. He spent almost two months using most of his freetime on it and never found any patterns. Although he did decide that the building has this hive-like mind that other things can tap into, which is why stuff that isn't strictly the architecture can move too. Also, apparently it can hear you, or something. He's very proud of his theory," Quinn replied, avoiding a book-sized rock covered in swirls poking out of the ground.

"Yeah, pretty much," Quinn said to Doyle. "Except the auditorium and the cafeteria are always in the same place. And, like, major halls and stuff stay generally in the same area. Oh, and we have a map in the living area of the dorm that shows where everything moves. You'll want to check that pretty often. And, no, you don't get a guide. You learn faster that way." She hesitated at a three-way fork in hall, deciding on the middle branch quickly. The floors and walls changed around them as they walked on. Murals of various celestial bodies and different colored skies swirled across the plain gray blocks on either side. Beneath them, the stone actually began to show clumps of vegetation, until they were trudging across deep green, short-cropped grass.

"Hogwarts is the school from Harry Potter. Basically, it's magical. Staircases move and paintings talk. Some of that stuff happens here too," Quinn replied, turning right to go up a flight of stairs. Did she know the way to the Astronomy Hall? Probably. Maybe. Well, they were going to find out pretty quickly if she really did or not.

"Again, classes depend on affiliation. You'll find out soon enough. For now, I guess we should show you where you'll be staying." Quinn glanced at Felix, a simple look of understanding flashing between them. He snapped and made finger guns at her, as if remembering something.

"Right, Chipotle. Uh, the second staircase moved this morning so it's down the Astronomy Hall instead, by the way. I'll take the wall shortcut back to the dorms and will hopefully be there before you to feed Elin so he doesn't become hangry. I'll call you if I get lost. Don't run into Chrissa, she's in a bad mood," he said. They high-fived and Felix ran out the open double doors into the field. Quinn turned back to the group, as if the conversation hadn't taken place.

"All right, follow me." She smiled, motioning for them to come as she headed off down the hall.
