I've heard people talking about checking their pokemons "price", where and how would someone do that? I'm just super confused about it.

Normally when users talk about checking price, they check this forum thread, which is a general guideline of how much Pokemon are worth on the site.

That said though, some Pokemon/items can be outliers from the price, and each user can value the item differently, but this is a good guideline to go off of when trading.
