Hey so when I start fishing and I get one I push pull rod and then it takes you click pull on the fish, well when I do it nothing happens most of the time. The fish goes up then down and it never goes up more than half way and then it escapes. How do I get it to not escape?

You need to click on 'pull' when the yellow bar is at the same place as the shadow.
If you time it right, the shadow will go up, if you time it wrong, the shadow will go back down.

I do, like, it's in the same spot on the shadow but sometimes it goes up and sometimes it goes down

If it goes down, it means you missed your chance and clicked outside the shadow.
That's all that means.

You have to carefully watch the meter, as the light goes up and down, and hit the pull function only once as it goes up and down. Using rhythm will help you a lot on this.
Just do your best and I guarantee you'll be catching hordes of fish in no time at all!!

So I think I found my problem, I was playing on a tablet this entire time, and it just doesn't work on a tablet. I played for the first time on my laptop and it worked.

It should work on your tablet, I just tried touchscreen and it worked?
