As you can un-nickname by putting zero characters in your nickname, I'll be suggesting a default button (just so people don't freak out about it). I'll probably draw one here?

Okay here it is, your default button!

This one looks a bit weirder though

Yes, it might not be the most frequent issue as PkmnTrainerV stated, but I know it won't certainly take long to code if you can find the species after nicknaming. As some people here might not even know that you can un-nickname a pokemon by nicknaming it nothing. There isn't a wiki article on nicknaming so I see a minor update for a default button to answer most people questions to be pretty useful.

Don't want to read down? Here is a post I made that I would hope convince you:
Show hidden content
So I tested it out, though I'm doing touchscreen on my chromebook so its bigger, making a default button would make it a little more safer and a little bit quicker for mobile users. Knowing that they have to backspace with their touchscreen keyboard + press the update button somehow not touching the release button (I was really close touching it). Making a default button would certainly help in my opinion with it. Also isn't the whole point of the wiki so people don't have to answer questions frequently, shouldn't adding a default button put less on the plate for the help page mods?

Also if your just going to say this is not useful, can you describe what will make it more useful to you and any other people that you know that have problems about nicknaming?

People often think the PH sprites are bland. Do they shade? Well, yes they do. You'll be surprised how much care is taken for these sprites.

Is naming a Pokémon the same as their species common enough to warrant a code/update for it? I don’t think so...

Currently neutral on the support, leaning towards no support, since not many people name their Scatterbug ‘Scatterbug’ or something like that.

This post is outdated, read if you dare!

Here's an example:

You got a shiny pikachu, you wanted to name it something so you name it plump mouse, but you kinda hate the nickname and you want it to be default. Though when you try to name it pikachu again it acts like its already been nicknamed. Though a default button may be better as some people may want to name their pikachu pikachu so when it evolves its a raichu with a nickname of pikachu. (i've seen a few people that do that, it's pretty weird.)

It doesn't have to be common enough that Riako would need to update it, I mean he literally has a thread for minor updates, do you think all of them are, "common"? I mean heck, one of them was putting skrelp in Emera beach, do you think a lot of people were complaining?

People often think the PH sprites are bland. Do they shade? Well, yes they do. You'll be surprised how much care is taken for these sprites.

I don't see how it is not useful, many people may use it?

Also to whoever the person that said this wasn't well explained, can you please explain to me what should I do to make it more understandable or maybe your just a troll.

I have to agree with both PkmnTrainerV & LordSamton by saying it's not really useful & I'm leaning towards No Support.

Literally the only thing you have to do to get rid of a Nickname is by deleting it and updating it with no characters in the Nickname... back to the species name... It really isn't too complicated. I'm sure if someone wasn't aware of this they could figure it out.

Also no support, because it's basically useless.
Also, why is half of the main post in strike throughs?

I took out the strikes then XD.

How is a button that makes the nickname nothing so there is no nickname useless, it's like saying putting a emera fountain in the town tab is useless. Its a minor suggestion that can only take like 1 minute, and can help newbies that don't not know this? Not mentioning that it can encourage nicknaming among mobile users.

I have to agree with the previous users, no support.
The thing is, it's not worth the extra work (because I'm sure it will take more than a minute to code) when there's a button on everyone's keyboard that does the same thing as the button that's being suggested.
I'm sure there are new users that don't know that deleting the nickname restores it to the Pokemon's original name, but it's not a stretch to work it out either. And I'm sure if it really does bother them, they'll ask someone.

I guess the best way to know is to ask Riako, but I'm pretty sure it'll be quick to code.

No support for reasons already stated, but also because of the two options

-the first looks dangerous, someone is going to try resetting to default and releasing a shiny pokemon
-the second looks weird

---

Adding on, if you're new and want to know how to reset a nickname, asking is very easy! Just put it in a feed or the help forum and someone will gladly tell you that all you have to do is clear the box and hit enter

If you can read this, you know how to read.

Though yes Nessy, making them close does seem like a problem. But I can't tell you how many times I was close to releasing my pokemon because of clicking the wrong button. Type #2 may look better if Riako implements it as some of the button are smaller in my version.

As I was wondering how hard is it to nickname if touchscreen I'll try it out.

Also thanks, your the first person that didn't say it would be useless

No support.

It's not that hard to remove all the characters on a Pokémon to give it the default name of it's species. Don't see why we need an entire new button for a few simple clicks, like mostly everyone has said.

Because those few simple clicks can easily lead to the demise of your pokemon, it must even be more torturous towards the people that have really small screens.

I use mobile like, 80% of the time, and it's harder than you think to accidentally release a Pokémon. You could put it on your battle team so it can't be released, or you could turn safe mode on, of course - that way there's a popup when you go to release a Pokémon. It's not tortuous.

No support.
There's already a lot of points, along with explanations from other people, as to why this won't gain any of my support.

Yes Toma, that is a good point, but I'm certain you don't put your pokemon in your battle team whenever you nickname a pokemon. The release button is only a few centimeters away from the update button and the popup for it almost looks exactly like the popup for updated successfully.
