"Thanks." Breezetail nodded cheerfully. "We haven't even been out for that long." She purred in agreement, pushing a bit of dirt aside with her tail. It was nice, being able to relax for a bit. Hunting was surprisingly relaxing sometimes.

Flamestar looked up abruptly. "And we might need to be careful...it's faint, but I think I can scent a coyote nearby" he said lowly. The acrid scent of a coyote was nearby, but it was slightly faint, and mingling with the scents of the river, and the fresh kill.

Breezetail nodded, tasting the air. The scent was faint, masked behind new scents and such, but it was still there. She didn't want to meet a coyote today (or really any other day, to be honest), but she remained alert. "Should we keep hunting or head back?" She asked.

"We should keep hunting. I'm sure it was from earlier" Flamestar meowed lowly. The bushes rustled once more, and he looked up with narrowed eyes.

Breezetail simply nodded again, eyes narrowing into slits as she eyed the bushes. Her ears flattened down against her head and she glanced at Flamestar before looking back toward the bush. "What," She breathed out quietly. "Is that."

Flamestar flicked an ear, and signaled with his tail to the patrol to stay silent. He took a step back, but was pushed aside as a gray brown coyote tackled him. It barked wildly, and snarled at the DesertClan leader.

Breezetail let out a violent hiss, taking a few steps forward. "That is just not right." She growled, dashing forward and raising her paw to claw it. Coyote. She faintly remembered being a kit when her mother told her stories about coyotes, though she couldn't remember than anymore.

The coyote yipped, and threw Flamestar aside. Though the dog like animal wasn't bigger than the cats, it was still a strong foe. Tigerpaw leapt into battle, and bit the coyote's ear crossly. "Tigerpaw go back to camp and get help" Flamestar ordered quickly. He wanted her to get away from the dangerous creature as quickly as possible.

"I can fight though" Tigerpaw meowed crossly, and was thrown off the coyote. She crashed into the river with a splash.

"Tigerpaw!" Breezetail yelped, dashing towards the river. She hesitated at the edge, dipping one paw in before hissing and leaping back. This is crazy! What if she drowns?! "Tigerpaw!" She called again, ignoring the coyote behind her. She sucked in a huge breath, both front paws in the water, prepared to leap if Tigerpaw needed help.

Flamestar hissed, and went to go after Tigerpaw, but Ashpelt growled. "I can't fight it off myself" Flamestar then froze, torn, he jumped back into battle, and went to fight the coyote.

Tigerpaw floundered in the water for a moment as she was shocked. The water soaked her through, and caused her to become cold. She then splashed a bit more in control, and swam toward the shore.

Breezetail waited by the shore, tail twitching in panic. She was glad Tigerpaw was okay. Turning her head, she watched the other two cats fighting the coyote and turned around, leaning over the water and grasping Tigerpaw's scruff in her teeth, pulling her out. She shook herself, grumbling something about water before turning to Tigerpaw. "Are you okay?" She asked worriedly.

Tigerpaw coughed slightly, but nodded. "I'll be fine" she meowed softly, and forced herself not to shake her fur. She knew Breezetail didn't like getting wet. "We should help them" she mewled in concern, and watched as Ashpelt, and Flamestar fought the coyote.

Breezetail hesitated. "I know I can't make you listen, but I suggest you sit this one out, or dry off first." She advised, stepping towards the coyote. "And uh. Thanks. For not shaking on me." She said, a smile clear in her voice. She crouched down and leapt forward attempting to score her claws down its side.

Tigerpaw nodded, and waited until Breezetail was a decent distance away. She shook her fur out, and began to lick it dry. Flamestar and Ashpelt continued to fight the coyote. The creature managed to get a few blows into Flamestar, and it soon threw Ashpelt off. The warrior fell into a brambled thicket, and struggled to get free.

Breezetail growled, pulling herself into the coyotes back and sinking her claws in. She bit down hard, knowing it was relatively useless. She could taste a tiny bit of blood but was quickly thrown off. She hit the ground and struggled back up, winded and shocked. "Ow." She muttered, glancing at her paw before dashing towards the coyote again. It hit her hard and she skidded back, feeling a few cuts on her side. She bristled angrily, fur puffing up, making her look bigger than usual. She dove at it again.

The coyote yowled in shock, and pain as Flamestar managed to hit it's other side. Winded the coyote ran off in defeat, and splashed through the river toward the boundary.

Breezetail watched it run off and sank to her stomach. She growled crossly, flicking her tail angrily as she stood up and paced. Her tail lashed aggressively. "Is everyone okay?" She managed, barely hearing herself talk. There was a bit of blood still seeping from one of the cuts but she licked it and it stopped, much to her relief.

"I'm fine" Flamestar meowed lowly, and cleaned a wound from his shoulder. Tigerpaw was still drying her fur.

"I'm just drenched, and slightly scratched" the apprentice said softly. She glanced at Ashpelt, who was passed out. His shoulder looked awful. "I think Ashpelt might need help though...his shoulder looks dislocated" she meowed grimly.

Breezetail groaned. "We are so getting lectured when we get back." She muttered, and finished licking the cuts. "We'll have to take him back to camp." She meowed. "I don't know if it'll hurt him when we move him, though." She added.
