MoonClan is having some troubled times. Crowfrost, MoonClan's former deputy, was killed by a pack of dogs that SunClan and StormClan helped battle against to rid them from the forest. Icestar was stricken with grief and chose Dusktail as the new deputy, but something doesn't feel right in the clan anymore. Will the clan survive?

Title: The beginning

Icestar sighed as she opened her ice blue eyes that once gave her the warrior name she was called, Iceeyes. She lifted her head and walked out of her den. It was only three sunrises since they lost Crowfrost and a few others in the blood bath the dog pack rained down on the clans. She saw Dusktail sitting talking to Lionfang about who the orange tom would take on patrol. "Take Wolffrost and Cherrtflight. Make sure they take Ravenpaw. She needs the training" Icestar had heard Dusktail say. She shook her head before she saw Ravenpaw grabbing a mouse to bring to the Nursery for Sunpetal and Sunkit. Sure, the black apprentice was smaller than most her age, but the leader was sure that could help the clan.

Silvermoon padded out of the warrior's den and stretched before she heard Dusktail yell to her about taking Lightningclaw, Sagepaw and Grayblaze hunting. The silver tabby nodded before she sighed. She didn't care much for how Dusktail spoke to her. "Grayblaze? LightningClaw? Dusktail wants us to go hunting with Sagepaw" she said.

Graystorm walked up to Dusktail and Lionfang and waited to speak with Dusktail until Lionfang padded off to grab Wolffrost and Cherryflight with Ravenpaw. "What will I be doing" the gray tabby asked. Dusktail looked at Graystorm. "Stay in camp unless something happens" the deputy told him. "I will be taking Dovepaw out for training" he said sounding rather bored. Graystorm nodded and sat near the center of the camp to warm his fur.

Lightningclaw got to his paws, and yawned. "Alright" he meowed with a yawn, and nodded. "Where should we hunt?" He asked as he stretched. His long claws, which gave him his name, scored the ground as he stretched.

Warmheat was seated in the warrior den, staring off into space. Her tail thrashed about behind her, and her eyes were narrowed as if she was thinking hard. But, actually, she wasn't thinking about anything at all. Her body quivered as she huffed, still staring off with her squinted eyes.

Sunpetal was curled up in the nursery, fast asleep. She breathed softly, curled up so that her golden colored tail came up to cover her nose. Her ears twitched in her sleep, and she trembled as she slept. Her expression was peaceful, a smile seeming to be on her lips. The end of her tail would flick away and back onto her nose every so often as she dreamed, and her expression never wavered from resting happiness.

Cherryflight paced around camp, his tail flicking to and fro. He had a calm expression, but his body language read that he was anxious and nervous. No one, from his face or body, could tell why, though. So he continued this, pacing from one end to the other in a steady walk. It took him a few minutes to get back and forth, but he didn't stop.

Littleflower held juniper berries in a leaf in her mouth, placing them on the rock next to the clover. She often organized when she had nothing else, since the amount of injuries and births seemed to be low. They hadn't really had a birth since Sunpetal and Sunkit, if she remembered properly. She smiled softly at the large rock in front of her. All of her berries, leaves, and other herbs were gathered in it in pretty order. She turned, walking over to her bed of moss and sat down slowly.

Sunkit slowly woke up, blinking his eyes at the early morning light. It's morning! he thought. He looked around the nursery and saw his mother sleeping. He decided to let her sleep and walked to the den entrance.

Silvermoon looked at Lightningclaw. "I was thinking near the river. We haven't hunted there since..." she let her voice fade out. It wasn't near where the dogs had attacked, but it had been a few days since they hunted there.

Lionfang walked over to Cherryflight and sighed. "Hey, Dusktail wants you, me Wolffrost and Ravenpaw to go on patrol" he said. "We best hurry before he gets angry."

Ravenpaw smiled seeing Sunkit. "Hey Sunkit. I brough food for your mother. Let her know its here in the corner for when she wakes up" she said. The apprentice still looked like a kit herself, though was happy to be an apprentice.

"I sure will!" Sunkit squeaked, looking at the fresh-kill. He was still too young to eat it, so he didn't mind. Plus, he liked helping his mom. "What is it?" Sunkit asked the apprentice.

Lightningclaw nodded, and looked at Silvermoon in understanding. "I'm sure there will be prey there." He said gently.

Ravenpaw smiled. "Its a mouse. I don't know if your teeth are big enough yet to try it, but one day you will be able to."

Silvermoon smiled. "How is Sunpetal doing" she asked. "I wanted to stay out of her fur since I am sure everyone else is bugging her and Sunkit."

"She's doing great" Lightningclaw purred warmly. "Sunkit just seems to have a lot of energy. I can't wait until he becomes an apprentice" he continued softly.

Sunkit looked at the mouse. "Maybe." he meowed. "But for now, I like milk!" He grabbed the mouse by the tail and dragged it into the den.

Silvermoon looked at Lightningclaw. "I am sure you will miss him being so young though when he gets older" she replied with sadness in her eyes. A tom she had loved, Hawkstorm, had been killed in the dog attack, and she hadn't been able to tell him before he joined Starclan.

Ravenpaw giggled. "Just wait until you try a mouse. You wont want milk after that" she said.
