After being on PH for over three years, I still get baffled when the evidence of people not even bothering to read is presented straight into my face. It gets especially obvious when generous people offer something for free - the catch being that it is usually limited to their mutual friends only. A quite confusing phrase, or so some of you might think, but then again, after being a member on this website for some time already, shouldn’t it be common knowledge already just how exactly the friending system on here works?
For the new members out there: If you add someone to your friendlist, then that’s nice, but it does not mean that you are on their friendlist as well. PH is a bit more complicated in regards to that issue. When you take a look here, you will get two lists in total: the first list consists of the people you have added to your list, while the second list consists of people who have added you to their list. It is not that complicated, but if you want to check whether someone you have added has also added you back, you have to make sure that their name is on both of your lists. If they are not? Well, then that means you two are not mutuals, easy as that.
So, to sum it up, it really does not take that much time for someone to check if you are mutual friends with someone or not. What I fail to understand, though, is if this really is such a huge, complicated task that so many people just do not bother to check and instead jump into the feed/thread/whatever to ask if they have the qualifications to ask for whatever is given for free.
Since becoming a member on PH, I have posted feeds on several occasions to offer my mutual friends on there some pokemon for free - mainly ones that just got released and got sold for absurdly high prices in the auction hall. (Like, seriously? Over 100.000 PD for a Drampa or a Komala? I have no words for this.) Each time, people out there manage to make me regret my decision and irritate me by posting even though they do not meet the qualifications I have listed for them to ask for one. Things even went as far as when someone even posted and asked if they have the right to get a pokemon for free? The worst thing about it? I don’t know them - I have never exchanged a word with them, they have never even commented on anything I have posted; there was zero interaction, so it left me sitting here in front of my computer, wondering from where that person suddenly crawled out.
While I was still doing my shiny mega hunt for Absol, I hosted several giveaways. This was not one solely limited for my mutual friends, but I made it clear in my feed that it’s limited to the people only who are still in need of either a shiny Absol or a mega-able one. And guess what happened? Someone actually had the audacity to post there, wanting to participate in that giveaway because they want to sell it for money to make profit. They even stated it so themselves in that comment, which also made me wonder whether they simply did not bother to read, or whether they simply did not care at all about the rules that I had set for this giveaway.
There are undoubtedly a lot more of cases similar to the ones mentioned above - which, in general, probably isn’t anything major for any of you. But seriously, I personally find it very rude and disrespectful towards the person who is trying to be generous. Is it really that hard to read things properly? Are you really that desperate and greedy for something that you try to take advantage of someone else’s kindness even though you don’t have the right to in the first place?
If you even have to ask whether you are mutual friends or not, then maybe you should just back off from the beginning because then you either are a bad friend who doesn’t even remember their own friends, or you simply weren’t friends to begin with.
Or, maybe you have the impression that you are best buddies with someone else even though the other person doesn’t feel the same - but that’s another rant for another day.
