In the MissingNo. quest, Bill swears, and this is a kid-friendly site, so I think Riako should change that swear word.
I'm awesome!
And all those who are making suggestions that will make PH safer, I agree with you and thank you.

A few users made feeds about it when the quest was first released.

Can you please provide proof? As far as I am aware nothing like that ever existed

This is what he currently says When it's been less than a week and I just did this and there were no swear words within the 'coding' it's self so?

I do not think this is necessary.

^there's the proof

Its when you get the egg.

And "damn" is considered a swear word by some people I guess.
I know someone's gotten warned for it, but in this case I'm using it in the clear example of the above screenshot, and since it is on site as official dialogue then it shouldn't be considered a swear

If you can read this, you know how to read.

Yeah to me that isn't a swear word so I believe nothing needs to be changed. Riako clears sees this probably isn't one either and thus no one should be warned about it.

So parts of the world don't see is as a swear some do its such a gray area.

Like to me you might as well say Dam! It sounds exactly the same! It's even spelt the same! It's just missing one letter how stupid is that xD

So yeah I know some mods don't see it as a swear it all depends on where you come from really.

(An) User(s) had been warned for minor non-offensive swear words, one of them being 'Damn' which is honestly… pretty stupid. I remember many users complaining about it. I'd get if it's like, an offensive word but it isn't.

Using the word 'Damn' is better than making some kind of made-up swear word like 'Sluggers' which just sounds too childish. Children are going to learn about cusswords one way or another. Damn isn't even offensive, it's commonly said and is only minor, unlike it's major counterparts. Really don't see how it should be removed as it's being used to express an annoyed/enraged Bill and like I previously mentioned, it's a minor, common cuss word.

But still, it's a swear word, and swearing is SCRICTLY prohibited as it says in PH's rules.

I'm sorry but children at the age of 9/10 already know so much more worse and offensive language it's pratically nothing compared to the slang they use today.

For example I had a 10 year old flip a middle finger at me, swore, insulted and wanted me to 'fight him' for accidently bumping into them. And that is in person let alone the anonymous online persona they can have here. There shoild be a focus on the real sever words rather than childish ones like this.

'Damn' is nor offensive to a person nor do I from where I come from view it as swearing. Its meaning is that of extreme frustration or aggression towards something not someone.

Maybe it's just that you don't care about kids. Besides, if you "Swearers want to be happy, at least it could be changed to "Crap" for you people who like swearing.

Maybe it's not? I do care but when my 11 year old cousin comes and swears at me for no reason or swear because she's in pain because she stubbed her toe knowing what the word means. I know that kids these days arnt kids. They do their own thing and don't care what other think about them.

2. I don't like to swear I refrain from doing so. So please don't assume things about people it's rude. I have given you nothing but facts, examples and my.opinion on the topic. Don't like it? Ignore it rather than assume and attack people because things arnt going the way you wanted it to.

to me 'damn' isn't a swear word, and it's honestly way more clean then some of the other words and slang we use today. but that's just my opinion. i don't really see why this needs to be implemented, but it's nice to know you care about the younger users on the site.

and like rollingthunder said, riako most likely sees this as unoffensive and doesn't consider it a swear. if he did, he wouldn't have put it in the coding at all.

With the entire PH-related swearing rules and everything aside, I would have to agree with Xetrobia in saying that damn isn't a swear word. I would say it falls under the category of hell, such as "Hell no".

Take in consideration TV Shows as well. Something very very child oriented such as Disney Channel won't have a character say damn, but on my favorite show, Charmed, they say things such as damn throughout the entire series and it's rated PG.

Adding to what Malkins said as it just reminded me.

Online games should not be played without Parental guidance. (PG for those at a certain age) most online sites require that (parents permission to play such a game) as well as/ or being over the age of 13. PH is such a place where such guidelines arn't currently in place. (Which is nice for those under the teenage years)

These are in place to protect both parties from suing one another. I can list several websites that require this if you would like to.

People, what I'm trying to say is that if we take swear words too lightly, one day we're going to be ashamed of what we've become, and I don't want cursing corruption to take over PH.

It won't and never will be. The mods work hard to go though every report posted to them quickly. Most who swear get reported and the post removed and / or edited within 15 minutes. When the rules first changed on the 14th of September where this even stricter ruling was in place than before. The mods were quick to enforce and lay down what is ok and not ok.

Which for the amount of which the small group have to do is amazing! I mean 15 minutes or less to respond is quite a feet with on average 3000-4000 daily users. And nip any incorrect behaviour in the bud with new or old accounts.

Don't worry about cursing to take over PH the community as a whole report any odd words which some cases get removed some don't. But the mods talk to one another help one another to take the right choice.

The curse word you're talking about should be taken lightly as it's a minor cuss and is not offensive in any way. It's used to represent a negative emotion. Cussing actually helps with stress if you don't know that. Unless it's like 'Damn you!' and is being directed towards someone- then that violates the rule of behaving nicely to other users.

PokèHeroes isn't entirely child friendly, mind you. Last year Halloween's event proved that with mention of kidnapping and even more was implied. It's an all age adoptable website and I know a family-friendly website[that follows the United States law, which means COPPA] that allows a few cusswords which are minor. One of them is damn and they don't even consider 'Hell' as a cussword [One of my old PokèHeroes username is PrinceOfHell anyway]. That website have a wider community than PokèHeroes- I don't see it corrupting the website at all.

Okay, I see your point on it being minor swear. But what about users with overprotective parents? Parents who'll never let them go on this site ever again if they see ONE swear word?

Well then that's up the the parent's not the child. If the child has over protective parents that's something that is going to happen. They (The parents) should / will be keeping tabs on what their child is doing, who they are talking to, and what they are saying. That's something the website (Such as PH) Is not responsible for.

Parents these days can easily block access to certain websites though the computer settings. Not only that if they don't know how to do that they will / should only allow a minor to access the internet when they allow it at certain times to keep an eye on them to watch over their shoulder.
